After a successful Kickstarter campaign and a thousand backers prepared to enter Crowfall's pre-alpha testing phase, ArtCraft surprised players with the announcement that a PvP team game mode, Hunger Dome, will be the focus of the initial pre-alpha test. In Hunger Dome matches, teams participate in a single-elimination deathmatch, scavenging for weapons and armor as the map is consumed by the devouring maelstrom called "the Hunger".
Earlier today, Larian Studios announced that it will bring its upcoming sequel RPG, Divinity: Original Sin II, to Kickstarter at the end of the month. A prototype of the game will be available for attendees to go hands-on with at PAX Prime Booth #6011.
Compulsion Games, developer of Contrast, has just launched its Kickstarter for the upcoming dystopian survival game We Happy Few! Following a linear storyline, We Happy Few is set in a psychotically dark environment bent on taking drugs to remain content. The player's goal is to not indulge in this drug-fueled lifestyle while managing to avoid the suspicions of their touchy fellow denizens.
Camelot Unchained is an upcoming Realm vs Realm MMO in development by City State Entertainment. It has been two years since the completion of its successful Kickstarter and the game recently entered Alpha 1 testing phase. We chatted with CSE's President Mark Jacobs about what players can expect from Camelot Unchained.
Shortly before the sale of Sony Online Entertainment - now Daybreak Games - was announced, the word went out: SOE Live wasn't happening this year. Formerly known as Fan Faire, the annual gathering of players and SOE developers to celebrate their favorite games had become a vacation mainstay for many people.
After the announcement a dedicated group of players decided to pick up the project themselves. Project Fan Faire is in motion, but because there no big backers, they are running a Kickstarter in an attempt to fund the event. Tickets include admission to the event, three catered meals, and access to all player panels.
For more information, like Project Fan Faire on Facebook, or check out their website or Kickstarter!
At PAX East we had the chance to speak to Sam Abbott, COO of Compulsion Games, the developer of Contrast. We Happy Few, still in pre-alpha, is best described as a dystopian story-driven survival game; if you enjoy games like Don't Starve, you'll really dig this title.
"With the game, we wanted to try and look at what we did really well with Contrast, and what we could have done better. For We Happy Few, what we felt we did really well with Contrast was atmosphere and story, so we wanted to make sure that we did well with that again.
"And we wanted to do a couple of things that were a bit more different this time around in terms of developing the game. We wanted to involve community early on, which is why we're showing this way earlier than we did with Contrast."
We Happy Few is a systemic game that follows a linear storyline. Sam likens the art style to that of BioShock. The game is played in first-person view inside a procedurally generated world. It has an estimated 2-3 hours of gameplay, but with good replayability.
