The Skaven are a race of vicious rat men that live under the world in vast catacombs and tunnels. There underworld empire stretches from the far northern boarders of Kislev to the dangerous southern jungles of The Southlands, from Bretonnia to the far eastern realms of Cathay and even the island nation of Nippon. There capital is the wicked city of Skavenblight located in the Blighted Marshes east of the nation of Tilea.
In the city of Skavenblight the Lords of Decay the rulers of the Skaven empire sit on the Council of Thirteen, scheming up diabolical plans to destroy the world that lies above them. The council sits at a table with the two ends empty. The top end is the symbolic seat of the Great horned rat. The most powerful members sit to the left and right of the top seat sharing equal power, as well as the other council members who sit opposite of each other. The council constantly bickers, lies, cheats, and schemes against each other. It is not uncommon for another council member to have another member assassinated. If a powerful enough Skaven decides he wants a spot on the council all he has to do is challenge the a member to a fight to the death. If he wins he then replaces that member on the council. The existing council members have ruled for over two hundred years. They are as follows, Lord Kritislik the Seerlord, Lord Morskittar Lord warlock of Clan Skryre, Nurglitch Arch Plaguelord of Clan Pestilens, ratch Doomclaw of Clan Rictus, Warlord Gnawdwell of Clan Mors, Lord Sneek the Nightlord of Clan Eshin, Lord Verminkin Packlord of Clan Moulder, and Lord Paskrit The Warlord General of all Skaven. The great horned rat whom has a chair at the top of the table of the council of thirteen, is a vile deity all Skaven worship. It is said he appears to seers as a enormous rat like being with large horns. Grey seers receive prophecies from this great deity of vermin, leading them to many victories in battle, assassinations, and schemes to overthrow the known world.
Warp stone is also very entwined in the skaven culture. They use it for many different things including magic, mutating, power sources for their weapons and mad inventions. It is said that the skaven evolved from rats to the repulsive creatures we know now long ago before even the times of the Empire. Skaven also mine for this twisted material and they have been known to attack mines that may have it.
The four great skaven clans are as follows Pestilens, Eshin, Moulder, and Skryre.
Clan Pestilens thrives to spread disease and plague through out the world.
Clan Eshin are a clan of elite assassins, light skirmishers and infiltrators. They learned their secrets of stealth and deception from the far eastern countries of Nippon, Cathay, and Inja when they disappeared from the old world centuries ago later returning too add even more deadly skills to the Skaven empire.
Clan Moulder are deranged beast masters. They experiment on creatures of the world crossbreeding them and using chaotic influences on them, mutating them to make them stronger, faster, and more vicious. Giant Rats and monstrous Rat Ogres are examples of there madness.
Clan Skryre are the most intelligent of the clans. They are mad scientists who use evil magic from warp stones and their own arcane technology. They create a vast line of weapons and war machines for the clan using this deranged knowledge.
