The most powerful knights of the era were tragically slaughtered in The Battle of Garlaige Citadel.
The magic-wielding Tarutaru were cut off from their allies in the rest of the world. The Shadow Lord’s army of Yagudo gathered at their new stronghold, Castle Oztroja, which stood between Windurst and Jeuno. For the world’s greatest magic users to be part of the battle, the other nations knew they had to help the Tarutaru evade the beastmen forces.
The Kingdom of San d’Oria devised a plan to dig a tunnel beneath Garlaige Citadel, a temple the Elvaan built years prior when their kingdom controlled the region. The purpose of the tunnel was to reach the Tarutaru on the other side of the Yagudo army, giving them safe passage to their allies. The tunnel workers, protected by 500 of the greatest San d’Orian knights, sneaked through the beastmen forces in Sauromugue Champaign and slipped into the citadel undetected -- or so they thought.
Orcish scouts from the north tracked the knights to the citadel and alerted the Yagudo. When the San d’Orian forces were deep inside their unfinished tunnel, the Yagudo and Orcish armies launched an all-out assault on the citadel. The once formidable knights were trapped, and caught completely by surprise. Every last knight and worker was killed. Their tunnel, meant to save Windurst, became nothing more than a tomb. To this day, the knights’ vengeful spirits roam the depths of Garlaige Citadel, attacking anyone who dares to enter.
The Tarutaru were on their own.
