I really hope they have more then one new job just for the fact that we need more ways to make things new I mean have you ever lfp on a sat night there is 100 of every job and when the new one comes out there will be 400 blu's
One thing comes to mind, the fact that once this job comes out, depending on the type of quest it is, this may be the fellowship quest all over again, with asshats comeing out the woodwork. ><
I can only hope that people can conduct themselves accordingly is time.
Everyone is saying spells will be TP based. According to the description, which was posted several times, the Blue Mage will be able to fell enemies from afar. How, as a fighter, do you attack from afar besides ranged attack. I doubt the Blue Mage will be a "pseudo" ranger. Its more than likely MP based or timed based, otherwise there wouldn't be casting from "afar".
Like everyone else appears to be, my LS and I are quite fascinated with the idea of the BLU being introduced. There seems to be a lot of speculation as to how the BLU will learn, store, and use their abilities, and much like everyone else, I have a few theories.
1) Everyone remembers FFVII, noted as one of the greatest FF games from the previous decade. In that game, all spells and abilities were based on the Materia that was equiped to armor and weapons, meaning that one would be limited to the spells he/she could cast based on what Materia they had equiped. One of the Materia in the game was the "Enemy Skill" Materia, one of my personal favorites. This Materia gave characters the ability to learn any Enemy Skill that was used on them, with the exception of TP attacks, whether or not they lived through the attack. Such great spells as Shadowflare could be learned and used at any time, given the character had ample MP to cast it. Under this theory, the BLU would be able to learn such abilities as "Dream Flower" or "Sheep Song" (Sleepga), and possibly even greater abilities used by higher level mobs. If this is the case I would be very excited.
2) The next theory is conceived from the less than stellar FFVIII, in which no character really "learned" any spells, but had to "steal" them from mobs in battle. The spells were almost stored like items, allowing you to "steal" 8 uses of "Fire" or something of that nature. Once you cast "Fire" that 8 times, you could no longer use it and were forced to "steal" more. If this is the case, I am less than thrilled.
Either way, I'm glad to see that there is going to be at least one new job for the taking, giving a whole new aspect to the game and possibly changing the entire party structure as we know it. I'm personally more excited about hearing rumors of an Assassin job, but I have found no concrete information on this. I would speculate that it would be a combination of THF and RNG, using stealth and ranged attacks to eliminate the enemy. Either way, I can't wait to check out everything this expansion has to offer.
BTW, speaking of a launch port for the boat to reach the Far East lands; in Norg, there is a dock that is unreachable in the background of one of the areas. In talking to some of the NPCs in Norg and Jeuno, they mention Norg as being a possible Pirate's Haven, in which stolen or illegal goods are shipped and then sent out for disbursment. It wouldn't surprize me if that is the boat port, since Norg really doesn't have an exit area other than back into the Grotto.
On the ffvault.ign.com site, i saw this... "Employing the legendary arts of Aht Urhgan, these formidable fighter-mages employ elegantly curved blades for close combat, while decimating their enemies from afar with fell magic mastered from their opponents." So i think that new abilities will not be learned by the other's use, but instead there will be a new type of scroll.

No one has really brought up the fact that mob abilities are supposely TP based. So I wouldn't be surprised if BLU use TP to unleash mob abilities. Plus with the description of the Blade weilding. This very well become similiar to SAM but instead of supporting melee it will support mages. I would love to see a Magic Skill chain introduced to the game (like skill chains but with magic) example: Spider Web + Bind = Commatose with a "MB" of shield bash. lol I know it's out there but how exciting would that make battles?
the problem betweeb mobs using abilities and players too, i bet they can resist stuff like 1000 needles, laugh, and watch it do 10 dmg total? i bet there will be an accuracy based on alot of those "mob sure hit" abilities that will make them not sure hit for the blue mage itself. Also again i bring this up, someone from SE was apprently refering to this job as Taoist? are we 100% sure this is going to be called blue mage itself?(itd seem a little boring to call it the obvious, taoist sounds so much cooler)
i dunno about you...but those first few pics definatly looked like a new job class....either that or a new set of equip....my guess its a job....why get this worked up over armor?
I'm a lvl 60 PLD, i wonder how BLU will manage tanking especially if liek ppl think the job would work better with a BLM or RDM sub, no voke at all, i couldnt get a pt as a tank if i subed anything but war. sounds kinda cheap to me, but i look forward to seeing if Blu can out tank PLD
This is a simple solution that will not break the game first of all, second make an enjoyable experience when playing a Blue Mage. First of all learning an ability could be simple set it up with a 2 hr ability. Make the 2 hour last the end of the fight with the mob. This will make it a chance that you learn the ability if the mob uses the attack and add to the thrill of the hunt on the harder NM's. Also make it that you can only learn the ability if you live through the attack. This will make all abilities something that you would have to stay close to the mobs level. Could you see a lvl 10 living thru sickle slash? For that matter a level 10 living thru screwdriver? And no worries at lvl 24 (aka utsusemi: ichi fans) you have to be hit with the attack not a shadow. balance yet entertainment. give me your opinions. I like feedback
had another idea for a skill like the thief's evasion bonus that he gets as a passive ability. Make a Instant ability with a 5:00 miniute recast skill that makes a mob use his special ability at like lvl 20 and enhance the abilities sucess rate thru items and passive traits at higher levels like 30, 50, 60. This would be easy and would be like SAM's ability Store TP
Id just like to post my 2 cents on this subject much like everyone else.Ive spent a few hours while LFP chatting with a few of my LS buddies and making educated guesses as to how SE will make BLU work....weve come to these conclusion(Note:these are only hypothesis's and in no way attempt to throw false information into the mix). 1)Blue Mage will be an INT based job, thus meriting /blm or /rdm 2)Blue Mage will most likely become a DD/Enfeeb class much like RDM 3)The act of learning mob abilities may rely on the use of a mid-delay job ability that relys on the INT stat for its chance of success. 4)Learning an ability might well be achieved through the defeat of mobs in battle. 5)Learning of abilities could be quest based where one may have to defeat a NM of a specific species pertaining to the ability in a solo BCNM 6)Job 2HR may either learn an ability with a 100% chance,OR use a chosen ability already learned but at an enhanced effectiveness
again, these are only speculations made by a group of 5-6 people during learned conversation.
On the subject of this expansion. I was think of this..
So if you need to ride a boat to get to the far east which it looks like you have too By those images. Well now Port Jeuno....it too full soo i don't think that will be where the boats launch. What i think their gonna do is make some changes to Norg and that will be the Boat launch For the Far East....It makes Sense. And that means if the New job is located in the new far east areas...It will likelly mean you have to be high in order to activate the Quest...30 seems too low...I think you will need to be a 50lvl or 60lvl todo it.... And that alone would solve everyone doing the quest the first day and all lvling it:)
You are quite right that there is no ship ports in port jueno, however there is that spot in lower jueno in the tensodo club (probibaly butchered the spelling) where the guard blocks the way down to a boat, he states something reguarding this if you talk to him, and it only makes sense because they are the direct link to sam mnk and nin classes (aka far east classes). There may as well be one in Norg, but the chances of them changing jueno from being a major port of entry would be just dumb. Traveling from one of the three nations to get to Jueno, from Jueno you go to Kazham, then from Kazham to Norg....... SE would not make it only one enterance to a new area and it would not be that far out of the way.
yea, it's been awhile since i've been in norg but i think if you watch there's a boat that launchs and docks there on occasion...please don't quote me on this or get mad cause it has been like 4 months and i might just be remembering what my brain wants me to now XD but yea...
What about that dead end with the big wood gate. In Yuhtunga Jungle. Just outside of Kazham. Behind the beastmen banner. Popular exp camp. That looks like a place for expansion.
