Final Fantasy XIV Announces New Content at TGS

It's been almost a month since Square Enix relaunched their second MMO, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. While many of us are still making our way through the story and towards level 50, other players are already there and looking for more content. We've heard some discussion about the 2.1 update prior to launch, but recently at the Tokyo Game Show, producer Naoki Yoshida gave everyone a quick look at what we have to look forward to with ARR's first major update.

Final Fantasy Trailers from the Tokyo Game Show

The Tokyo Game Show is underway and Square Enix has released a feast of Final Fantasy for fans. New trailers for Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remastered, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, and Final Fantasy XV have been making the rounds this morning. Readers who are interested in the Playstation 4, coming out this fall, can enjoy a look at some combat for Final Fantasy XV.

Final Fantasy XIV Digital Sales Resume

Today, after nearly three weeks of digital sales being halted, Square Enix has opened them back up to the public. Head over to the store and grab your copy now!

Libra Eorzea: The Official FFXIV iOS Application

Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy XIV: Libra Eorzea, its official smart phone app, is available to download for iOS through the iTunes store. The application features a comprehensive offline game database and a character profile viewer, with future plans for more features and an Android version.

Game Database
FINAL FANTASY XIV: LIBRA EORZEA contains an encyclopaedic catalog of in-game information, including items, quests, non-playable characters (NPCs), achievements, and more. With a host of updates in the works, the database will serve as an ever-useful resource for the adventurers of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Character Profiles
Players with an active FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn account can log in with their Square Enix account credentials to review their character information such as attributes and gear. They can also browse the profiles of other characters in their Free Company, Linkshell, or use the search function to view details on other players and Free Companies. Moreover, players can even learn where fellow adventurers acquired their gear.

Final Fantasy XIV PlayStation 4 Beta Coming!

As grumpy as I was not being able to create a character for a week, then being unable to play anyway... this isn't the first we've been burdened by launch hiccups, honestly, I don't think Square Enix have done a half bad job relatively speaking. Now that things are back on track they face the next hurdle, they have released details of PlayStation 4 Beta Testing, more on that follows.

Experience Points: What Grinds My Gears

Each week, Chris "Syeric" Coke gives his unfiltered thoughts on the MMO industry. Taking on the news and hottest topics, Chris brings his extensive experience as a player and blogger to bear in Experience Points. This week he breaks down frustrating aspects of the industry, including the recent launch of Final Fantasy XIV.

Yesterday, for the first time since the game's release, I was able to log on to my guild's Final Fantasy XIV server. After eight days and one miracle patch, Square Enix finally seems to be making headway on an issue that never should have happened in the first place. See, this genre has a problem – a few of them in fact. One of them is launches. Another is the publishers and companies running these games. Today I want to look at what, in the words of Peter Griffin, really grinds my gears.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Review, Part 2

Almost three years after the release of the original version of the game, Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn last week. I started this review yesterday, talking about my experiences with Marauders and tanking, unlocking Job classes, and the way FFXIV: ARR handles Story Quests. In Part 2 I jump back into Duty Finder for more of ARR's dungeon offerings, fight the epic struggle called "Logging Into the Game", and finally wrap everything up and say what I think about SE's second attempt at bringing Eorzea to life.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Review, Part 1

Almost three years after the release of the original version of the game, Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn last week. I’ve already talked at length about the game’s mechanics, gathering and crafting systems and dungeons, but that was all during the various beta weekends. This time the game’s live for everyone to join and there’s no cap on how far I can progress, so it’s time to see just what FFXIV: ARR has to offer for MMO players. While there’re still a number of quests I’ve yet to complete, classes I haven’t touched since Closed Beta 3 and dungeons I haven’t unlocked let alone run, I have seen enough of the current content (both new and updated versions of what I saw during beta) that I feel confident giving my opinions on the game.

Final Fantasy XIV: Digital Sales Halted

FFXIV:ARR is rather popular.

This is news to no one after the past few days of servers being rammed with log-in attempts by eager players. What is news is that Square Enix, in a move to try to limit the current server overload, has suspended sales of new digital editions of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
