Cultivating
Guides: Tier 1Tier 2Tier 3Tier 4
Trainers
This is a gathering skill. Players can learn this skill from trainers throughout the world. There is a Cultivating trainer in every chapter 2 location.

Players with the cultivation skill can grow their own weeds and fungi. Most weeds/fungi are Apothecary ingredients.

Additional plots open up every 50 skill in cultivating until all four are open at 150.

Basic How-To

To open up the Cultivation window once you have the skill, type "v", then click on the crafting tab, and then click on the Cultivation icon.

The first thing you need in order to begin growing stuff is some seeds or spores. These items have "Cultivation, Seed" or "Cultivation, Spore" in their tooltips. There's a merchant in each chapter 2 location that sells all the basic low-level seeds.

There are four plots in the cultivation window. If you drag a seed from your backpack into an empty plot, it will begin to grow. The interface also tells you how much time is left before you can harvest the weed, and how long is left in the current stage. Whatever the time for a stage is, it will be cut in half when you add an ingredient to that stage. Seeds requiring skill 1 take 40 seconds per stage, while seeds at skill 25 start with 60 seconds per stage.

The growth cycle of weeds and fungi is broken down into three stages:

  1. Germinating: you can add soil
  2. Seedling: you can add water (from watering cans)
  3. Flowering: you can add nutrients

These items speed up the time remaining in each step. They have "Cultivation, Soil," "Cultivation, Watering Can," and "Cultivation, Nutrient" in their tooltips. Nutrients can also increase the amount of weeds that will grow.

You don't "need" to use any of these three types of items, the weed will grow just fine on its own, just a bit slower.

PQ loot bags now sometimes have better versions of soil, watering cans, and nutrients.

You can close down the cultivation window at any time, all your weeds will keep growing while the window is closed.

When a weed has grown, you'll need to harvest it. This places the weed into your backpack and sets the plot back to empty.

Seeds and spores all have skill level requirements. You won't be able to place high skill level seeds into an empty plot if your skill is too low.

There are enough items at the crafting merchants to grow all the lowest-level weeds. After that, you'll need to gather better ingredients on your own.

You don't need to be in a specific special place to do cultivating. You can do it anywhere.

Forest dwelling, Nature monsters often drop seeds and spores, while furry monsters often have them too (stuck in their fur.) Some seeds can also be found from Scavenging.
