Job Adjustments (12/01/2006)

Today's Topics will discuss the upcoming job adjustments planned for paladins, dark knights, blue mages, corsairs, and puppetmasters.

 

Paladin Adjustments

With high defensive capabilities and enmity generation in mind, we will be adjusting the effect of the paladin job abilities Sentinel and Rampart.

Sentinel
The effect of Sentinel will be changed from an increase in defense to straight damage mitigation.
Also, all actions taken while Sentinel is in effect will generate additional enmity, allowing the paladin to more easily gain and maintain an enemy's attention.

Rampart
In addition to the defense bonus granted to party members within the area of effect, Rampart will now also provide a "Magic Shield" that will absorb a certain amount of magic damage in the same manner as the spell "Stoneskin."

Shield Mastery
In addition to granting a TP bonus, the Shield Mastery job trait will also prevent interruption to spell casting when an enemy's attack is blocked with a shield.

 

Dark Knight Adjustments

The casting time for Absorb spells will be reduced from 4 seconds to 2 seconds to increase their utility in battle.

 

Blue Mage Adjustments

Changes will include more monsters available from which to learn blue magic, as well as additional spells, and adjustments to recast times.

New Blue Magic
In addition to spells attainable from the newly introduced soulflayers and the Poroggo, there will be new spells made available for mid-level players that have healing and dispelling effects.

Existing Blue Magic
The recast time for enfeebling blue magic spells such as "Chaotic Eye" and "Frightful Roar" will be reduced.

 

Corsair Adjustments

Corsair adjustments in the upcoming version update will mainly focus on the Quick Draw ability. Also, with the addition of the Rapid Shot job trait, ranged attacks will become a more viable combat tool for the Corsair.

Quick Draw Accuracy
A corsair's AGI will now affect the accuracy of Quick Draw. This will make it possible to improve the accuracy of Quick Draw by increasing the relevant attributes.

Quick Draw Recast Time
The recast time for Quick Draw will be reduced from 3 minutes to 1 minute.
In accordance with this change, the Group 1 merit point ability Quick Draw Recast will now reduce recast time by 2 seconds instead of 6 seconds.

Light Shot and Dark Shot
Light Shot and Dark Shot will be changed to have the following enfeebling effects instead of inflicting damage:

- Light Shot: Sleep
- Dark Shot: Dispel

*The Quick Draw additional effect of increasing the potency of enfeebling effects will remain unchanged.

 

Puppetmaster Adjustments

Several new automaton weapon skills will be introduced. High-level automatons will have new weapon skills available for use in various situations.

- Melee Type
Inflicts melee damage on a target and drains an amount of HP in proportion to the damage dealt.
- Ranged Type
Inflicts ranged damage on a target and occasionally has the additional effect of Stun.
- Magic Type/Standard Type
Inflicts melee damage on a target and occasionally has the additional effect of greatly reducing evasion for a brief period of time.

A new text command [/ignorepet] will also be introduced that will allow you to ignore the pets of others, including automatons, avatars, and charmed monsters.
The text command can be used in the following way:

/ignorepet: Displays current status when no subcommand is specified
/ignorepet on: Ignore pet targets
/ignorepet off: Allow pet targets

*While using [/ignorepet on], you will be unable to target others' pets.
*You will always be able to target monsters' pets, player character's pets in PvP, and Fellows regardless of the ignorepet command.

This won't effect me any, my blu is 1, but... If learning spell is impossible if you miss the level by too much... what are all thos blu's who couldn't wait to get 75 going to do about the new mid-level magicks?

Well Well, looks like SE is atleast thinking about drk, but that seems to be it.
if they are going to make adjustments its should be on the dreaded 2hr.. BlOOD WEAPON should be a job ablity not a 2hr. If they plan on us using scythe mre then our 2hr will continue to be a waste.

Well looks like they are thinking about us darks but for the most part thats it.
The main thing that needs adjusting ins not even metioned 2HR... BLOOD WEAPON should be an ablity not a 2hr, if they plan on us using scythe....

What the heck man!! First they give DRK Absorb-TP, and then SAM Hasso and whatnot so they build TP even faster. Now, ok, so SAM is supposed to build TP faster than everyone else but I used to weapon skill twice as fast as a DRK and now they WS twice as fast as me. WTF SE? Is there a reason to make MNK even more undesirable for a PT? Or; is it just that crappy of a job? I dont think so, its fun to play!!, but stop building everything else up at the expense of gimping the other jobs that never get anything new and exciting. So, now every melee job can build TP faster than mnk (drk especially with their newly lowered recast time) making mnk nearly useless til after 75 and like 50 Merit Points. Help us out man, DRK's already have spells and higher atk stop giving them more, or make the jobs that never get updated(mmhmm MNK, THF, etc) a little more equal. :)

PUP Update {Decent Challenge}

61 Puppetmaster here. Puppetmaster does have someone control over what spells there puppet does. They just have to do the maneuvers in a certain order.
For Example:
Dark + Light Maneuver = Nuke Only
Dark + Light+ Water = Nuke Only
Light + Water = Bio => Nuke Only

Its in the puppetmaster forum people just havent discovered it yet. But as far as the Puppetmaster update. {Decent Challenge} I was hoping they would give our puppets a new WS and im looking for more. I would love to be able to control when my puppet does a WS so I can make a SC with it so I can be at some use like a BLU doing its own SC for a BLM. Get what Im saying? Automaton WS + PUP WS = SC.
It would also be nice if me and my puppet can do a stronger SC besides fusion. Its nice and all but IMO PUP still isnt getting that respect im looking for.

I understand the reason for making PUP's skills so low - they want to make the damge ration of player to maton 50/50. . . but if they really want to help us PUPs out, they need to give us acc+ job traits. . .and by acc+, I mean severe acc+. . . it is VERY hard to land hits with my PUP on a lot of mobs and it is very annoying.

The new WSs have potential, but we need a way to have some influence on when the maton uses them. . . I'm tired of ruining SCs in my groups. . . .

So now PLD's can use Invincible and Rampart so they dont get hit by Magic and die when Invincible is used?

new debuff for blu...that can be interesting if they make some other armor with "+ blue magic skill" effect..like enfeeb..so blus can land magics on HNM/sea/sky easyer...i'm curoius to see wich r the new magics ^^

Good to see that COR is getting a Sleep and Dispel effect now, but this just kinda puts the COR vs BRD thing back on the line, BRD had an advantage to being in party cause they could sleep and dispel as well as buff, now that COR can do the same thing after the update hopefully BRD will not be "overlooked" when looking for party :(

If SE gives COR anymore updates seriously they are gonna make RDM and BRD obsolete. Dispel was something that BRD and RDM had which really makes them wanted in parties, COR: Various AoE buffs,AoE Refresh+Dispel+Sleep, RDM: Debuffs+Single Target Refresh+Dispel+Sleep, BRD: Debuffs,Various AoE buffs, AoE Refresh+Dispel+Sleep. If COR gets any other Debuffs besides Dispel I can see some serious balance issues in the future.

We can only hope that RDM and BRD get some changes this update, like increase Refresh for RDM to 4~5mp per tick, or maybe a merit to do so, or a merit to learn RefreshII which would be weaker AoE version of Refresh, or give RDM a acc+ or atk+ single target spell. And maybe add a new instrument for BRD to give like Ballad+1~3. (another lower level option other than resorting to Relic Horn which gives +2 to all songs).

It is good that cor is getting the update! I can not count how many times my partys have fallen apart because there is no brd or rdm. I don't think the party invites for rdm and brd will go down, just that more partys will be able to keep going using cor as a replacment.

lol you have to remember cor is still a luck based job w/ rolls, i am a 75 rdm and 74 cor and i would rather a rdm to refresh a pld tank party then cor, however on nin tank pt hells yes cor hands down. everyone needs to stop lookin at cor as a refresher imo though, (using a rdm-cor or brd-cor) brd and rdm should always be looked at as a main refresher and cor think ofit as a bonus.

Yea so abs spells go off quicker now, now everyone will want to take DRK from 1-75! >.> Ok, that was sarcasm. Yes I use my ABS spells, and frequently as I can w/my gimpy galka mp when not refreshed. BUT...they mentioned doing (whatever it's supposed to be) something with Scythe a LONG TIME AGO, I'm fairly sick of it not being addressed in ANY update.

Yes, the lowered time is nice on ABS, but was it really much of an issue to address? Maybe next time they can address the important stuff on DRK like how many inches the point on my scythe is on others screens (yea more sarcasm).

Well, I won't say DRK got the shaft - while others say this change makes no difference I beg to differ - for those of us drks that used absorb spells OFTEN [that would be me] it actually lowered our dps to do so.

"Why cast them, then?" - to increase everyone else's. I open every fight with abs-agi and abs-vit so the mob is easier to hit and takes more damage, then I cast abs-tp because about that time is when the mob is near 100, or at least has a little so I can take it and play "catch-up" with the other melees that have been beating on it. Cutting the casting time for my absorb spells in HALF is actually very nice then.


But yeah, I really would like to see that scythe change they mentioned. I much prefer scythe to GS, but I wish I had more of a reason than "guillotine does more damage".

COR at 75 and the job can only get better, go SE! Finally they do something right, oh and the PLD stuff looks good too ^ ^

The Sleep is nice but I don't really care for the Dispel adition, but kudos to that anyway ^ ^

Just a question for all those who are saying they are getting the "Shaft".

----Are you finaly admiting that your job sucks and that you need some help form SE, so that you can contribute as much as the other jobs that are not getting anything else either?

----Or, are you saying that in comparision to the jobs that did get a change that your job is too weak?

Damn SE promised a Scythe update for us DRK and i have yet to see it. Damn SE never stickin to their word. Tho i am glad for the reduced cast time on absorb spells cuz i hated gettin hit and interrupted and it will make it better if you solo (hah not often on that is it). Glad to see the PLD's who save my butt are updated.

The adjustments for most of the jobs look pretty promising, but Dark Knight's got the shaft this time around. Lowering the cast time on Absorb spells won't make anyone use them more often than they already do for the simple fact that they just aren't that damn useful most of the time. Absorb-Str before a WS and Absorb-TP are the only one's that I ever really use and Absorb-Str is pretty rare.

It's a lot nicer than you think, seeing as most DRKs never bother to mess around with the absorb spells enough to realize how useful they really are. Doesn't take much to realize the utililty of these spells, aside from Absorb-CHR; as far as I've seen there is no use for that spell other than DRK/BRD... *awkward silence*

Alot of people (mainly BST main) sub bst to solo inbetween invites. hell i solo'ed pld 67-75, only had one PT. My friends tell me DRK can't charm above DC's because of their low chr, but using abs-chr on that mob usually helps... lol just throwing it out there.

well all the updates seem pretty good, i am alittle disapointed with the drk change though, it doesnt seem to do much and in the end the casting time for Absorb spells was never really too much of a problem with drk
o well, cant change what was does and, as everyone here knows and regrets, i cant force them to do anything, still is a shame though becuase i doubt, other then drk and blu, ill unlock the jobs so this update doesnt concern me much
