This is what I learned in a college Economics course about sunk costs:
A sunk cost is something that is described as a payment for a service where the cost is lost upon payment. It applies most notably in instances such as monthly fees for athletic clubs and, in our case, online video games. When you pay it, it doesn't matter how long you play because it is the same price, be it an hour a month or 24/7/365.
I've seen posts here talking about losing a grand total of five cents worth of their monthly fee to this scheduled maintenance (even going so far as to roughly show the calculations). The fact is you are not losing any money, so don't worry about it. You lost the money when you paid for the monthly fee.
