Actually I don't care. I'm just saying it's funny that people actually use the rating system to rate people down about something that has nothing negative in it.

I absolutely love how people rated me down simply because I stated my system specs. and whether they were higher or lower, rating someone down for that is just jealousy. Some people need to get a life -.-

6800 worth it?
# Oct 29 2004 at 10:08 PM Rating: Decent
Very much so. I can run FFXI on the PC with the highest resolution possible, all effects turned on, and i don't get any lag in jeuno. I did however get lag when i wasw on a geforce 4 series. Ever since I got the 128mb Geforce 6800 Ultra card (costs around $499), I'm pretty much able to run any game on it's highest resolution, including Doom 3, Farcry, and of course this game as well. Haven't had a chance to test Half-Life 2 yet but im sure it'll work just fine :P Now....the only problem with the 6800 series is that it requires a 300 watt power supply (supposedly) i came across this note when i tried to install the card in a system im building. Unfortunately the powersupply wasnt large enough (only a crappy standard 200watt from dell). I called Nvidia and they say that if you use 4 usb ports at any one time (keyboard, mouse, etc.) you need to have a 350 watt powersupply, NOT a 300. Otherwise your system will not boot properly or it will automatically shut off randomly due to lack of power. You can usually buy a 400+ watt powersupply for about 50-70 bucks depending on where you get it, but I got mine for 20. If you need the info, I'm currently searching for the site I used. Got it with overnight delivery for only 5 bucks through UPS, so it was a great deal. Haven't had a problem since. The system specs are now 3.8ghz AMD processor HT, 2 gigs of RAM, the 128mb Geforce 6800 Ultra, 450 watt power supply, 750gig HD (3), and yada yada yada. BUT, i also ran the same card (have 2 of them since i use 2 separate computers for gaming sometimes), that is a 2.4 ghz pent 4, 512mb ram, 60 gig hd, and the same video card with a 400 watt power supply, and the game runs absolutely the same. So bare minimum, i'd say stick witht he ram you have unless it's lower than 512, a 2ghz processor is fine, hd is up to you, but the video card should either be a 5950 or the very nice 6800 IF you want to run the game in the absolute highest possible settings. Doesn't hurt to have them on other games as well. But you gotta remember that the video card isn't everything. Sometimes you have to just pat your computer and give it candy. Hope this helps answer any questions.

When i saw the news from playonline.com, i went to nvidia website to download the version 61.77 driver for GForce, and luckily it works just fine!

Anyone think i should get the new GForce 6800/6600 series? Are they even worth it? What i have right now is GForce Ti 4400!

pfff.. everyone I know with a GeForce 5900+ card have problems with those drivers. I even tried Beta drivers and still no good. I am now using the 53.03 drivers and they work perfectly. So if all else fails, get those :)

Perhaps, but updating your video card drivers are a very small price to pay for vastly superior graphics. I cannot stand the ps2 version. I feel claustrophobic on it. The PC feels more open where as the PS2 seems to have a shorter clip plane.

"vastly superior" umm the graphics are better for PC but not that better and I don't play FFXI cause of the graphics, that's probably the smallest factor I take into consideration when buying a new game.

Anyway, how exactly do you feel claustrophobic when playing the ps2 version? Is that even possible? Well whatever I'm sure you have your reasons but I honestly prefer my couch and big screen tv to my desk and monitor and I assure you, nothing about ps2 ffxi feels claustrophobic to me. Even if the graphics on ffxi are "vastly superior" =p

I run FFXI at 1280x1024, PS2 is stuck at what? 800x600? That's what he means by 'claustrphobic' you have no real range of view. I know you probobly don't see this, but when you are used to higher res, the difference is huge.

LOL yea, "We will conduct an investigation"...
Omg i joined a gil seller party on Pandemonium
to bust them, and i got the leader to say the exact phrase "i sell gil along with these people (in the party), you can buy 1000k for $130)...
I disbanded and called the GM, all i got was "i will conduct an investigation..." All that work for nothing. ><

lol...yeah GM's have been without power since they started working at Square/Enix... it would be funny if they had this electric outage and called the company to complain and the electric company said "we hear you're having a power outage. we'll investigate the matter further...is there any other way i can help you today?"

i can just imagine a buncha GMs sitting in a dark room playing Magic: The Gathering by candle light...waiting on the power to come back on so they can return to protecting the rights of all gilsellers and spout utterly useless nonsense at any valid arguments....... did i just rant? damn...i didn't even feel that one coming.

Might as well just let the GM center go out of power, not like any of the GMs really deal with any of the problems that need to be dealt with.

Yeah I completely agree...

The only time I have ever witnessed a GM doing anything at all was when someone reported my friend for having an ~inappropriate~ name. My friend had to change his name after having it months because some stupid kid was offended.

Aren't there more important things for GM's to be doing than hassling people about their names????

Yeah, the GMs are useless. While they go after people who do minor offenses (albeit creative) like gilsellers, they don't care about REAL offenses.

I was in a party in Valkurm Dunes and me and the BST weren't getting along because he kept bringing along a snipper. Most of the rest of the party was behind me. Anyway, the BST started talking trash and badmouthing me bad, and the leader (Jamel) kicked us both. When I asked him why I was kicked, he realied "because i felt like it *****!" So I told the other members of the party all this and they ditched him. After that, Jamel started sexually harrassing me telling me about all the thigns he wanted to do to me. (Most of what he said would probably get censored on these boards.) While I'm usually nice about such things, his manner and aggrissiveness and hostility made it like verbal rape to me.

I called a GM and the GM was more than capable to confirm all this. Weeks later, he still had not been banned, and his offense was a lot more serious than freaking gilselling.

Maybe someone should complain about being offended by gil-sellers and griefers.

Has anyone tried to get the attention of someone higher than a GM in the hierarchy? Perhaps by a petition or open letter (bilingual, of course)? I am curious as to whether such an effort has been made, and also as to its effect.
