Im a 65 epic cleric on tribunel and unlesss this sheild has a 100% rezz on it im staying an epic 1.0 cleric id be a fool to give up a mana free rezz for some other proc. just my 2 cents.

I was under the impression that you can have BOTH the 1.0 and 2.0 epics. 1.0 isn't needed to do 2.0. So i'm thinking it'd be pretty cool looking to weild click stick primary and epic 2.0 secondary. It's a SHIELD, btw. Why are you thinking you have to give up the first one?

Dealing with the "Nothingness" Of the shield,Im pretty sure It will be called Shield Of the Nothing,It will rpbly have a proc on it like,
A.Absorbs ALL Damage into nothingness for 24 seconds....
B.(THis might be confusing,Bear with me) Stripps(Disarms) ALL Items on Mob so it is kinda like Dispell except for armor so its MAna AC HP and everything dropps,Making it easier to kill,Or
C.Teleports U to A place of nothingness(Kinda like Plane Of knowledge More places to go ALL protals..Is this a good idea? Maybe this will be who knows? If u know send me a tell on Prexus name:Qinamen

Would be nice, that if you have both Epic 1 and Epic 2 equipped, when you rezz, if there were no rezz effects...Wishful thinking...but still a nice idea.

As a Cleric, I would like to be clicked back with the mana I had when I died...

Would alos be nice if it would give some form of Mana Regen...FT15 and Chanter lovin' are just not enough after P.O.Time

Nice!

Nice it is a shield, still allows the clerics to have their click-it stick equiped.
Wanted to add that maybe a mana regen buff on it?

I just finished reading On a Pale Horse by Piers Anthony (Great Book) so my answer is due to that. But could not death be the answer. If anything could outlive the Gods it would be Death. And the more death there is, the less of anything there will be.

Actually if you think about it death doesnt get rid of anything, it just creates something else. Whenever anything dies it will not just dissapear, but leave a corpse.

Riddle #2
# Sep 01 2004 at 11:37 PM Rating: Decent
When I first read Riddle #2 I thought the obvious answer was "Time" which kinda scares me... Wonder if you will have to be Time Flagged to get the stinking thing. They did, after all, say the Epic 2.0s would be for the very high end players...
RE: Riddle #2
# Sep 02 2004 at 6:42 AM Rating: Default
Being time flagged would be easy next to getting one of these. Think of it this way, the folks who are finishing GoD are far, far more powerful now than when they were finishing up Time, and Omens is supposed to provide new high-end content for THEM.... and only the highest-end players (that means those who can finish Omens) will get the new epics.

Bottom line: if you get your Epic 2.0, congradulations, you just won EverQuest. Take a bow and wait for WoW to come out ;-)

I have to disagree w/ the winning EQ bit, I have to say that that honor belongs only to the Uber souls who have killed Kerafyrm, The Sleeper. Really, could you ask for a tougher end boss?
RE: Riddle #2
# Sep 03 2004 at 7:16 AM Rating: Decent
I remember when the pally epic was the only one.

Then came the rest. Were they not, at the time, supposed to be for the "high end player" and it was going to be VERY difficult to obtain? Chances are at first you will only see GoD, or then omens geared players with it. But soon you will see the rest of us get it once strategies evolve and we learn how.

I remember thinking, " wow....lvl 49...ill never be THAT high, Ill never kill one of those dragons or a god!" Well, ive killed naggy and vox. Ive even killed cazic, so ANYTHING is possible.

Good thing not everyone is as negatively minded as you seem to be Nixoh.

I am not Time Flagged nor GoD flagged, but I am looking forward to seeing this new expansion for 45+ characters, and finding out what is up with these new epics.

Considering the expansion and the epics arent even out yet, you make alot of assumptions I think.

Oh and for discussion sake : IMO any expansion HAS to offer new content for the highest end players. Why ? Cause they are the living proof that there are already content for the ones below them to level on - otherwise they wouldnt be that high...

Most people just think that being hardcore and raiding 6 days a week is the ONLY way to get there - it isnt, people just dont consider viable alternatives imo.

Ok, i know i read something about not needing your first epic and all to gain 2.0 But my question is.. can you weild both at the same time? Or do you have to give up your epic 1.0 to gain 2.0?
RE: Question
# Sep 02 2004 at 11:19 AM Rating: Decent
Well, if the second epic is a shield and the first is a weapon then I guess you can have both at the same time. And since you dont have to give up your first epic to get the second, then theres no reason why you wouldn't be able to own both at the same time.
Of course, a couple of questions remain:
1. What will the particle effects be like - obviously the most important question :P
2. What will the stats be
3. Will it have an augment of type 20 of which there will not be augment until the next expansion?
4. What will be the clicky on it?
5. Will there be a bash proc?
chances to get it

The riddle N.2 should be:
'What can the average cleric do to get this cool epic n.2?'

the answer is the same...
God
# Sep 01 2004 at 1:14 PM Rating: Decent
Surely if no one believes in a god , then over time they are no longer a memory.
So that god is *dead* then ?.
RE: God
# Sep 01 2004 at 2:09 PM Rating: Excellent
Ahh, you have put your finger on the chief difference between fantasy Gods and real life Gods. I do not believe in any God or Gods, so my opinion here is biased in that regard.

In the real world, I believe there are no Gods, which means they exist only in the minds and writings of those who do believe. When no one believes in a particular God, for instance Pallas Athena, Greek Goddess of the City and the Embodiment of Wisdom, the daughter of Zeus, who to my knowledge is not believed in or worshipped at the present time, then that God ceases to exist except in myth and legend.

In fantasy worlds, the premise of a God implies that said God wields power and works his will upon the lands, not contigent upon whether he is believed in or not. A forgotten fantasy deity can quite possibly return from oblivion and obliviate the oblivious fools who obviously forgot him.

Old Riddle

Riddle 2 is a play on the old riddle: "What's bigger than the Universe, greater than God, and more evil than the Devil?"

Of course, nothing is bigger than the Universe.
Nothing is greater than God.
And Nothing is more evil than the Devil.

The answer to Riddle 2 (and the classic riddle) is the word "Nothing" not the object (or absence of objects).
outliving God
# Sep 01 2004 at 7:39 AM Rating: Default
Outliving gods is patently ridiculous, so the riddle does not imply the gods are dead, just that the only answer could be nothing.
'killing gods' is also ridiculous. Please consider the War of The Ring: Sauron was destroyed, but he lived on searching for the ring. With the ring destroyed he lives on still, but his power to rule middle-earth is (at least for the moment) gone forever.
Consider God himself: we exist due to his pleasure. God is forever.
The concept of god destruction does not fit in the concept of god.
...the only answer could be nothing.

General agreement with Byilbo, ROzzl, & Qaanoll though I'm quite sure Tolkien though of the Ainur (both Valar & Maiar) more as angels than gods since both were created beings, not eternal. And methinks there are many Biblical similarities.

Sauron in Lord of the Rings was not a God. He was a servant of the fallen demi-God. The only true God in the Middle Earth Universe was Iluvatar. His first creations are something of demi-Gods, one of them challenged Iluvatar (no Biblical similarities here) and became the source of evil.

It's been years since I read The Silmarillion, so I forget his name, but Sauron was one of his chief servants.

Damn I'm a nerd.

Melkor, who is Morgoth.

The name Melkor ceased to be spoken, even by Manwe, and he became known only as Morgoth, the Dark Enemy of the World. www.annalsofarda.dk/annals-of-arda/Valar-index-table/Valar/Melkor.htm
Nothing makes sense
# Sep 01 2004 at 5:46 AM Rating: Default
I think the riddle shouldnt be read: 'Nothing has outlived the gods', but I read it as:

If the Gods die, Nothing will remain.

This follows nicely on the story for GoD, (tributemasters introduced because the gods are turning away from the races) where if we keep killing the gods eventually the world will end and nothing will remain, or maybe just chaos and order forever in opposition.

I do still think that the second sentence is weird, there cannot be more or less of nothing imho
RE: Nothing makes sense
# Sep 07 2004 at 7:13 PM Rating: Default
Actually, look at it from this point of view...

The less "something" you have, ie matter, ppl, energy, gods, etc...the more "nothing" you have.

makes sense, in a relative kind of way.

Kind of like the infinite void that is the Universe. Theoretically, it is continuously expanding, though the matter within the universe is remaining finite, thus, as the universe expands, there becomes a larger expanse of the void, and thus more "nothing"..

It's a brain-bending concept, and one that can drive ya crazy if ya think about it too long. (and you thought it was just a simple riddle! :P)

..I know, I know.. I'm an nerd. hehe

Explian this if in riddle two it says it has out lived the GODS and the answer is nothing why are we all still alive why does norrath still exsit if the answer is nothing that mean that nothing has out lived the gods so this riddle makes it seem the gods are dead or no more, so why does Norrath or my pally still exsist if nothing has out lived them. needless to say I really think this riddle is messed up and who ever made it up should think about there wording
Riddle #2
# Aug 31 2004 at 10:10 PM Rating: Decent
No.. because if the god's created everything then nothing was around before then, anyhow.. don't take this response into too much depth and start talking about "what made the gods then!" because it's only a game and those things don't matter, anyhow it doesn't matter what the answer could be, it's nothing.
RE: Riddle #2

According to EQ Lore, the 'Nameless' created the gods. He is everything, he is nothing, by his will the universe exists. I was thinking maybe (Well, not so much anymore now that its answered) that the Nameless could be the answer to the second riddle. He (or 'It') was around before the gods and he/she/it has never been seen before (It has no corporeal form, I think. Its just the universe personified).
RE: Riddle #2

Quote:
"What has outlived the Gods but has never been seen, And the more there is of it, the less there will be?"

Answer: "Nothing"
In the interest of being technical, "outlive" does not mean that the answer to the riddle existed before the gods, merely that it persists after they are gone.

Consider a widow: She may or may not have been born before her husband, but she has certainly outlived him.

This brings up the question of the integrity of the riddle itself. The conjugation of the phrase "has outlived" implies that the Gods are dead.

It is my understanding from EQ2 lore that the gods are not dead, although they no longer grace the face of Norrath. However, I may very well be wrong about that.

If I am right though, the implication that nothing exists after the Gods die, coupled with the insinuation that the Gods have died, suggests that there is nothing.

Make of it what you will.

Happy September everybody.

- edit -
Thinking on this as I lay abed before falling asleep last night, I came to the following conclusions:

"Nothing has outlived the Gods" means that the Gods are still alive. Thus they have not been outlived, and therefore nothing could possibly have outlived them.

"Nothing has never been seen" means that as it is only possibly for us to see "things," (ie, photons and/or light waves directly from a source or reflected off a surface) we are thus unable to see "nothing" (ie, the lack of things, the antithesis of something) and so "nothing" has indeed never been seen.

"And the more there is of nothing, the less there will be?" means that the more "nothing" (lack of things) there is, the less "things" (note that the riddle only used the word "it" before the comma, and that after the comma there was no mention of what there would be less of) there can be, assuming that the universe is finite. Norrath, by definition, is a computer coded world. Thus it is impossible for it to be infinite, and ergo must be finite. As a finite world, the more nothing there is the less things there will be holds true.

couldnt the answer to the sec. riddle be Time?
RE: riddles #2
# Aug 31 2004 at 10:52 PM Rating: Decent
Time fits the first part of the 2nd riddle (what outlived the gods) but it does not seem to really fit the 2nd part. If you are short of time it seems to go fast and if you have an abundance of time it seems to take forever, in which case it would not fit
