i was hooked from the first time i started playing{over 4 years ago} just the scope of it all.. the fact that to travel from continent to continent you NEEDED to take a Boat..and you actually had to spend the time to do it. the first time healed an unsuspecting monk during a fight she was in. she rewarded me with a kiss and hug. its a game and a way to spend some time and relax ... so enjoy...
I have only been playing since Feb 04, am totally hooked on this inexpensive game. I just get bummed out knowing everyone isn't enjoying it as much as I do. I enjoy the glitches, lag, the skies. It all makes for an intersting time, which as you know, is the reason we all keep on playing:) And by the way, I have the most fun when I'm trying to get away alive and always end up laughing after I'm dead! It's a game, not real life and death, enjoy it! **** happens:)
You guys need to grow up with this complaining about not being able to afford a good computer, I have a 1000$ dell and my wife has a 500$ emachine from wal-mart. I updated both of ours to have 512MB SDRAM, and 258 Video Card, we used to run off DSL/Router in Cali, and now in VA we use Cable/Router, and i seldomly have problems. There are so many options you can do to your computer , in game and out. Why don't you check them out. Disk Scan, Cleanup, Defrag, Clean out temp files, delete crap you don't need, and that's not even getting into EQ changes.

I have to agree....the game is not perfect. There are things that some people will never stop raving about, there are things that some people will never stop complaining about. My main character is level 65, and far from being "done". There are so many flags needed from PoP, or GoD, let alone the increase of gear available at those upper levels. During the first year of the game I did a shout to shut up some players dogging Sony/Verant about the game in shouts. What I shouted was along the line of we pay (now approx 13$ ) for a MONTHS worth of entertainment. Im not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but this is cheap, good, fun. Heck its hard to go to a movie and buy popcorn for the same amount of money....and that last 2 hours or so. I applaud them for coming up with new content, and expansions, giving me more to do for an extremely low price.
I would complain if they stopped doing anything.....at least an effort to fix problems is an effort. Yes, Sony is a money hungry huge company....but for the amount we spend it is much better now than in the first year and a half.
I plan on continuation of eq and possibly get eq2...
I am addicted. I ***** too. I still play. I don't play any other online games - have no desire to either. I think EQ is just fine - even when I am ready to burn it to the ground.
I have even been soul-marked once for screaming at the GMs for a SOE problem. Lag some, crash very very little. Have an ok 'puter but not a super-gamer.
New graphics are nice - not super but nice. Interesting to note how they are similar to other zones - hmmm wonder if architects were kidnapped and build same buildings and furniture all over EQ hahaha.
Will buy and play till I am old and grey (and keep ******** about it too). Will not buy EQII. My system will not handle it - I have no desire for it really other than a passing interest to see highend graphics (game will really not be any different).
Sir Ruhr Steelbreaker Lord Protector, Paladin o Holy Brell (Dwarf)
The raising of the levels is a good idea. Some of you guys complain about not even being 65 yet (boo hoo). How do you think the 65s feel when theyve been 65 forever and are getting bored with the game. Suck it up and level and quit complaining about the level changes, because if you ever reach 65 then youll understand and want to be able to realize you can move forward, and not be at a point where you know thats it.
Also i think all people know how to do is freaking complain. I mean no matter what they do to try to keep us involved in game there always someone who unhappy. For a change try to remember what is was like when ya first started playing , i mean the thing is a GAME . You are suppose to have fun. AMEN: if the damn thing bothers you thaat bad clear the account people!!!!!!! Grow Up!
Raising the levels is a GREAT idea. I saw someone 2 boxing Rumblecrush the other day. Now when they are Lvl 70 they can just solo him. If you are tired of being 65 why don't you start a new toon/different class? I love playing low lvl alts. Got a few in a guild of lvl 50-60. But if we ever wanted to raid anything it'd be dead instantly from lvl 70's soloing them the second they pop.
Is it just me, or does it seem just a bit strange that this "War zone" has a castle in it that never seems to close the gates? Just a bit ironic to me. :)
god damn you people need to stop ******** at eachother. what are you all, 10-12 years old? but personally, I think the screens look good, but do they live up to it and will that expantion stop people/customers to migrate to EQ2?

All i can say is these screen shots dont really give the new expansion justice. Go to the EQ home page and take a look at the screen shots they have posted there for you to view. Pay close attintion to the rats. THATS RIGHT FOLKS .. lvl's 1 - 70. you can have the exciting challanage of killing those pesky verim. How about a lil more time in thinking of new mobs to fight.Instead of the good ol rats and spiders. If you have run out of ideas for mobs, how about takeing a peek at the Old fashioned D&D Monstrouse manule. scince you basicly have ripped em off anyway.. might as well get some of the better monsters they came up with. My vote for the new expansion.. thumbs down to the EverRatSlayingQuest.
Cancel Billing Unistall EQ Burn/Rip/Smash the discs And move on
if you dont like eq, dont play it, dont go ranting that they ADDED a new rat model which is LONG overdue (considering theyve updated skeletons twice, which I have no problem with)
I personally think they should revamp all the old models and replace them with newer ones, and if people dont like them (like you) they can add an option in the options window.

little exageration you have going there?

as Baron von aardvarkgod said, EQ isnt the only game to ever "borrow" from the all knowing D&D guides, and did it ever occur to you that most of the monsters WERE actually taken from myths?
and, now to end this post, im going to say, how successful would YOU("princepimpofpersia") be at creating a MMORPG? I doubt it would ever reach five years old.
EQ isnt the only game to ever "borrow" from the all knowing D&D guides,
A good point. And D&D was never particularly original, either (not just in borrowing from ancient myth, but from contemporary literature as well). Balor = Balrog, for example. Or Forgotten Realms = Middle Earth. And it was even more obvious in the old old 1st-edition D&D monster manual, featuring various incarnations of Lovecraftian critters, among others.
The original Dieties and Demigods AD&D book actually had sections with Elric (from the Moorcock books) and Lankhmar (Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser) in it.
When Moorcock found out, he made them pull the Elric stuff.
All of fantasy is built on what came before, some are just more obvious about ripping it off. :)
Yeah, becuase EverQuest is the only game to 'borrow' material from other sources. Do you think D&D is the epitome of originality? Most of that stuff are just rehashes of old science-fiction tv/movies and also Greek/Roman/Norse/Japanese mythology.
All these ******* about lag. I hardly lag at all and I've got most of the options enabled. People, buy better video cards and stop blaming bandwith. Oh and if you are still on dial up, you don't exist.
Going to have to throw the yellow BS flag in here. My machine: P4 2.4 with 1 GB DDR and a Nvidia FX5600 Ultra video card. Play across a cable modem with no collisions, no bad packets, etc. POK still choppy (even when not crowded) and LDoN Guk is horrible. Choppy play in many of the new zones. Also get the infamous "Everquest has detected your client crashed" where it drops you back to desktop. Most commonly in LDON Tak and Deepest Guk. Machine totally patched and all drivers up to date. The only thing machine is used for is EQ. That is it. And I do send them the information everytime it happens (about twice per LDoN). Is it a hardware problem? I doubt it. Problem just started a few EQ patches ago....hmmm about the time they fixed the transparencies in Deepest Guk. But then again maybe you have forgotten how long it took to get that fixed.
My point? There are still numerous problems in the game and the engine they are using. It actually runs better on mid-range somewhat-older systems systems(ie. a P4 1.7 with 512 SDRAM and a Ti4200 seems to be the best config I have found for running EQ). I personally do not believe the current engine is optimized or compatible with newer hardware. I do think the new expansion will run better on it though, if Sony's trends hold true.
Also, not everyone has cable modem or DSL available, nor can everyone afford to keep upgrading hardware to play a game. If you have minimum specs, your product should run in an acceptable manner on it. Period. If your min specs don't cut it, raise them. If an expansion requires more ponies, state that. Too bad marketing folks can't understand that.
Sorry about any typos, getting late here. But like everyone else says, if you don't like it, don't play it. After almost 5 1/2 years of playing, these problems are minimal. You get de-sensitized to them really. So expect bugs and minor problems and if you are lucky you get disappointed when the release comes out and everything works again. Then maybe you can remember why you play. Ciao
agreed. i quit in beginnings of Luclin then came back. i love the new graphics and what things have been done. and making things look even better is something good not bad.
i have everything on. even particles. 100% clip. even on raids i dont lag.
As coldly and bluntly as czekar has put it, I have to agree with him.
This is the year 2004, Pentium 2's and 3's with 64MB graphic cards are a thing of the past. Not to mention these large brand name PC companies that put together a so called P4 super system package all for 500 bucks that are pretty much garbage, still wont handle the latest and greatest software comming out these days.
I have a modern machine and I want to see modern graphics with it.

Posted:Aug 10 2004 at 11:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think this whole OOW expansion is stupid. Upping the lvl cap to 70? (or 75, no one knows for fact..yet) Psh, i havent even reached 65...now its just more for me to have to work for. The new graphics? AWESOME!! But only for those who have a comp that can handle it. My comp isnt crap, but its gonna be choppy in OOW, i can tell that just from the 1/2 dozen SSs i seen. Stupid people "Ya well 2ghz processors and 64 meg video cards are so old you should eat them cuz they suck". ***** you. I paid good money for my comp and theres no way in hell im gonna go spend another god-knows-how-much for another comp just so i can play some damn game. SOME of us arent made of money and have better things to spend our 3000 bucks on than some Alienware 3.2ghz 4gig-ram system. I saved for my comp and i love it right now.
I too dont have alot of money to spend on hardware every six months. But there is one thing that I do have, and thats a brain. Educate yourself on how to build a machine, and then upgrade one thing here, and one thing there. Anyone that blows $3k on a machine that doesnt have that kind of money to begin with is just plain retarded. I think the biggest chunk I've ever had to blow on a machine was $400, due to upgrading the MB and CPU at the same time. Since then, its a $100 here, and a $100 there, or less than that for RAM. You dont have to buy the biggest and baddest to keep the price down, and keep up with the softwares out there today. the 3rd or 4rth best usually do fine for a couple years ,and are a hellofa lot cheaper.
Keep the graphics upgrades coming SOE. Ill be ready for ya.
The sky is interesting and the detail nice. Having said that, I won't be noticing it during play time on account I always turn off all sky layers and all spell effects and everything else I can. My computer system is no slo-poke by any means but I dont want to have 'pretty' pictures to look at at the cost of the chop-chop-jerk-jerk-Stuck-and-cant-move-yet of lagging. I upgraded my system a bunch and it still happens. I would think it will still happen in OOW also, so I just plan on keeping all the stuff turned off still. Also, looks like the person hitting that screen shot had his clip plane turned up too high. At that visual rate he would be rendering all the mobs in the castle and surrounding hills, not to mention his own raid force to assault that monster of a castle. Thats a sure fire way of overloading your system and lagging out.
Npt everyoone has accessto the internet requirements that this expansion needs so wont be buying it. And it dosent look all that great Your artists nrrd to watch some Disney movies or something to get a clue as to appealing enviornment. Before releasing why not repair all the lag problems there already are and instead of nerfing items by removing stats improve the ones in already existing zones for players .
