EverQuest Gold Membership & Station Cash

A change to the monthly Station Cash bonuses for gold member accounts will take effect next month:

Dear EverQuest Gold Members,

We regularly evaluate our offerings at SOE to ensure we are consistently delivering great games and products, while also offering exceptional value to our players. Given that we just started a new year it seemed like the perfect time to add more value!

The week of February 3rd, 2014 we will be making a very important change to the Gold Membership level in EverQuest The current benefit of receiving 500 Station Cash (SC) monthly will be replaced with a new program that allows you to select one single item valued up to 2000 SC each month. Nearly all items within the games’ Marketplace will be available for this selection. Players Studio, bundles and additional exclusions may apply. This new benefit must be claimed each month that you are a member as it will not carry over to subsequent months.

We appreciate our customers, especially our valued members, and therefore are excited to bring you this additional value.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you in game soon.

Best,

Sony Online Entertainment

Ok here is a thought. what if i buy x SC this month and then i get my 2000SC free for being a gold member. And i buy my one item a month without buying anything else. Is there going to be a seperate column to show purchased SC and free SC? If they mix then who is to say they will be able to track what SC is which SC?

I don't understand your thought. You're not getting free station cash any more. What you are getting is the ability to select one single item from the market place valued up to 2000 SC each month (certain exclusions may apply). I don't see a need to track "free station cash" versus paid station cash. They will likely implement some way for you to designate whether you consume SC or you use your "free selection" or it will simply be the first item purchased in any given month has to be your "free selection" and all subsequent selections would require purchased SC. I also doubt that you'll be able to "select" a free item that is 2500 SC and use a combination of the "free selection" + 500 purchased SC to obtain the item, but I think that remains to be seen.

so you did understand my thought. you answered my question thanks. Its kind of what i was thinking too(being a selection of something rather than actual 2kSC) but thought i would throw that out there and see what happened. Smiley: grin

There is a very long thread over on the Everquest forums regarding this change. If I understood Piestro's post on page 7 of that thread ;) It does appear that it will be a single selection and we will not be able to combine the 2000 SC item with purchased SC in order to obtain something that costs more than 2000 SC in any given month.

I'll admit that I'm not excited about this change, but will make the best of it as I can. Rather than having to save up 2 - 3 months of 500 SC to get something that costs >=1000 SC, now I'll just be able to buy it outright and then buy something else the next month. As long as I use this to purchase something each month that costs at least 500 SC, I'm certainly not behind, I've just lost the convenience and freedom to spend that 500 SC as freely as I'd prefer. It will affect my purchasing decisions on the "small stuff" like housing items, novelties and ornamentations most of all. More characters might get Hero's Forge now (something I wasn't willing to spend SC on previously) to wear silly hats on holidays or I might do more Draught of the Craftsman based tradeskilling runs or maybe just turn part of my guild neighborhood into a zoo.....

I do not see this as a benefit to me. If I can only get 1 item per month, then my 7 other characters will get nothing for the next 8 months, when their turn comes around in the cycle.

So if this does not benefit me--the consumer--then it only benefits the manufacturer, or seller.

I said the same thing Eccentric (hope I spelled it right), 2000 SC is awesome and Rukkuss it is great ( you are right it is free).... BUT the Issue still remains One Time Purchase, on One Item and not Re-useable even on that character. Buy once, buy wisely and see you next month. BTW I have spent a tremendous amount of personal money in the Store, therefore the 500 SC I was getting was simply a small portion of my expenditure.

Additionally, I wasn't trying to get under anyone's skin with my posts and I do apologize to those I did upset.

I will complain. This is not an offer for something extra, or more than we were getting, ...it is less. Its kinda like, ....well...here is your rebate in the form of a prepaid credit card you can only use at our store for ONE item up to the amount on the card. Its less than the free spending of the SC we were awarded which gave us freedom of choice for multiple items, or...we could save up and roll over until we had enough for the pots we wanted. Now we have to pay out of pocket for more than ONE item a month. When I saved up I often bought 2-3 pots at a time. This is a marketing sham, and they think we are all so stupid we will just buy into it.

So I assume you'll be immediately canceling your recurring monthly sub so that you will have no part in the bonus program at all. That would certainly be the way to show how not stupid you are and how you won't be buying into the bonus SC.

I'm totally with you. I use plat to pay for kronos to sub my army of boxes. Doing so nets me 0 bonus SC per month even though I consume double digit kronos a month. Let's join ranks and make fun of all those people who get a free item every month worth up to 2k sc. Eff the system! Eff the man!

I cant believe people would complain about this..

They were originally giving you $5.00 US worth of SC a month for paying to play, before i recently came back to the game I was paying 15 a month just to play with no bonuses and i was very happy to do so. Now they are giving you $20.00 worth of station cash with the only catch being that you have to use it before the end of the month.

Before we would get $60 per year of SC .. now we can get up to $240 worth for free? how is that not a win?
6,000 per year SC - now up to 24000 .. crazy...

If you don't like Sony or their choices then you should try finding a game/game developer that has the same values you do. Its their game.

OMG, a company is trying to make money how dare them! ;) Isnt that the point of business?

Happy customers on a F2P with no income going to the company = out of business

I actually think your logic isn't quite clear here. I do not get 2000 SC to spend as I will - I can choose one item that can be valued up to 2000 SC. That does not mean that I go from getting $60 worth of SC I can spend freely (on anything I like - save up for something big or buy several little things) to get getting $240 worth of station cash I can spend freely. Now I can choose one item 12 times that MAY be valued up to $240 a year.

There is only ONE service that it valued at 2000 SC (two are more and the rest are less).

There are no potions valued at 2000 SC.

There are several mounts that are valued at 1950 SC. Great, I get to build a zoo in my bank.

The point is most items in the market place are under 500 SC and if I can only pick one of those items each month, I'm not ahead in this equation. Sure IF I had always been interested in Shared Adventure Potions (assuming they won't be on the exclusion list), now I can get one bottle of shared adventure II every month instead of one every three months, but personally, those don't hold interest for me.

I can claim once and only once any item under 2000sc. That kind of sucks. The old way if i purchase an item that costs under the 500 sc then i would get to keep the rest. When this new system goes into place it won't let me have the remainder. The rest is lost. Its one claim only. Can't say im happy about that. I personally wait till they have 50% off sales on items before i purchase them with the sc i had saved up for months. Now if they wanted to do that for silver players. Then by all means. Let them get the 1 free claim a month. Gold shouldn't get sh*t on though.

Surprised SoE hasn't offered a Platinum subscription yet offering even more then what gold gets. Could even add another currency like Krono. Could call it Platinum Krono or something like that which gets you a month of Platinum subscription. Give a person the option of getting any single item no matter the cost per month from the marketplace but only once and if the person misses it then too bad. Could charge $30 a month. Of course they would need to exclude some items from the marketplace just as they are going to do with the new system once its in place.

Take a moment and read this statement again. Then read it again. Then add the words "for free" at the end of the first sentence. Then reread it again.

right gold membership isn't free but that's the only way your going to get the PERK of the claim up to 2k SC monthly....once again its a perk being a gold member...once upon a time people they didn't give you anything except the pleasure of playing their game. Only reason they have SC is because people buy it. and the only reason they give it away be it monthly currency or by letting you pick an item up to a certain value is because to attract people to come back and pay once for the pleasure of their game......

Quote Article :"The current benefit of receiving 500 Station Cash (SC) monthly will be replaced with a new program that allows you to select one single item valued up to 2000 SC each month."

For some gold subscribers this system may be better than the 500 SC per month.

Butin my case, limiting it to one purchase up to a max of 2000 SC for that one item = a downgrade.

As I tend to use mainly XP pots and other than that the odd ornamentation for my army of alts on their way up..

So as the new system is described. I now can only purchase one XP pot(no matter the SC value)..which makes the 2000SC feature irrelevant or less than the 500 bonus we had (with no strings attached).

I Rather the old system also.

If you tend to use only XP pots, then you come out ahead. The potion of adventure III is 1000 SC. At the rate of 500 per month, it takes you 2 months to save up for the potion. In the new rate, you can select one each month, so at the end of 2 months, you have 2 instead of one.

Yes that's true for the Potion of Adventure III and items over 500 SC but under 2000 SC.

But in my case when leveling or power-AA'ing an alt with a higher character in group, I usually use the 4 hr/25% Potion of Adventure II which is 300 SC.

But another aspect I did not mention in my first post was that if you do not use all the bonus SC within the given month, none will carry over into the next month.

So now an account cannot accumulate or mass some SC over time. Which means one cannot purchase any marketplace items that sell for over 2000 SC by saving for a few months.

The devs were clever in that now an account must purchase SC if they want to buy anything over 2000 SC. One can no longer accumulate bonus SC for these higher priced items as no unused SC carry's over.

No doubt as you pointed out, for some its better but in my case not as beneficial. Smiley: disappointed

I can't see this being a benefit when it is limited to one player. Now you have to make the system support transferring between players on the same account or the remainder of your characters are not able to receive anything until another month comes around .... sounds like Obamacare to me !

With all due respect, giving away any SC or any item that would cost SC is a pretty leftist thing to do. The difference here is that I didn't pay for your bonus SC bonus item, being that it is an implicit cost instead of an explicit cost.

You need to move in with Rukkuss.... an Account has 8 Slots... a Claim is by a single player on a single account.

Station Cash Purchases are not claims, they are PURCHASES by each individual player's on that account. BUT, in February that changes To a Claim style System where as only 1 CHARACTER can CLAIM up to 2,000 SC on a SINGLE ITEM. Which word do you 2 not understand?

They dont need to give you any SC per month its an incentive/perk for being a gold member what dont you understand? If you dont like it then use your own money to buy SC and become a silver member.....and there isnt any need to start insulting people(or their brightness) either as no one has insulted you directly

I did think it through and i understand where you are coming from i get it. But they are still giving you free SC points monthly that they dont have to do...Im not going all fanboy either I have been long opposed to the lets put out 2 expacs a year and not fix anything else....But hey i still pay one acct gold and one silver and i enjoy it. the monthly SC points even if i have to use right away or lose it makes no differance to me. I think its a bonus and if they let you buy bundles with it hey man cool too if not no biggie. I cant really see buying just an xp pot for 1200 is a waste but hey better than having to use your own money to buy the SC to buy the 1200SC pot.
