Race and Class Combo Clash: Round One

A bracketed player vote will determine which race/class combination will make its EverQuest debut this coming March. Round One has begun!

For the epic 15th Anniversary we’ll be adding a new race and class combination to EverQuest and we wanted to include YOU in this decision! To do this, we’ll be running a multiple round event, where players can vote daily for the race and class combinations that they want to see.

Let your voice be heard! Check out what options there are for you to vote on this round:

Dark Elf Bard vs. Erudite Rogue

The Teir’Dal race recognizes music’s potency, and its value to enhance their dark endeavors. Will that make a Dark Elf Bard a superior choice to an Erudite Rogue?

Outmaneuvering and outthinking your enemies requires true intelligence and quick thinking. Erudites could bring quite a lot to the rogue business.

Dark Elf Ranger vs. Vah Shir Druid

It is only natural that classes with a connection to the environment around them leave their home cities to explore all the new places being discovered in far off lands. It is known to all Teir’Dal Rangers that nature is most powerful in the dark corners of the world.

On the other hand, Vah Shir Druids have a strong connection to nature, the planet and all of its protectors. Which of these champions of the environment would you like to see in-game?

Players have until the start of the next round to vote on these match ups.

Round Two’s Match Ups (Dec 12 - Dec 18, 2013)
Wood Elf Beastlord vs. Gnome Beastlord
Iksar Berserker vs. Dwarf Shadow Knight

Head on over to the combo clash page to learn even more about this event and to vote on what race and class combination you want to see added to the game on EverQuest’s 15th Anniversary on March 16, 2014!

Heck of a way to celebrate a 15th anniversary.

In all sincerity, why in the world, after 15 years, would they even THINK about adding a new race/class combo? In addition, it is exquisitely clear that the person or persons involved with this are completely bereft of ANY knowledge about the lore upon which the game was conceived.

As for the various choices, frankly they are beyond laughable! But this is what you get when you create by committee. :(

Further, when one considers that, over the years, the developer's complained that creating a new race/class combo would involve literally thousands of collateral changes to the game, I am utterly amazed that they have apparently devoted hundreds of hours, if not more, development time to this travesty while seeming to continue to ignore the literally thousands of bugs that infest the game.

This is how they celebrate a 15th anniversary? Good grief! How sad! :(

It's not the first time that they've added races to a class...they added halflings to the ranger class, and there are others. While adding a new race or new class to the game would be difficult to justify in lore, this isn't at all surprising; some of them should have been possible from the start, imo...ijs...

Have they given up on lore entirely?

Lore matters in a game like Everquest. How can they include choices like 'Dark Elf Ranger' (a DE in tune with nature? Really?!?) and 'Dwarven Shadow Knight' (Dwarves are purely good as a race). Neither of those choices has any place in the world of Norrath from a lore perspective.

So many combinations that would work within the lore of the land: Vah Shir Monk, Vah Shir Druid, Guktan Monk, Iksar Berserker, etc. I'm glad that some of these made the list, and hope that one of them wins out, but it's a shame that others lost out on a spot due to poor choices.

Dark Elves are still elves they have the same blood lines as wood elves they have just migrated to being underground (Neriak) and worshipping evil gods. Dark Elf ranger is feasible. ts a much more interesting option than the De bard.

Dwarf Shadowknight is more an easy one. anytime you have a Paladin Class you have the possibility of having the anti Paladin. which in all intensive purposes is a Shadowknight. Dwarves also have rogues that is an evil class so the dwarven peoples have that dark side to them.

Like many other silly internet polls, it is not monitored by account, so a single person can sign on and vote daily to off-balance vote. Should be one vote per authenticated account only to make a fair and reasonable vote imho.

actually...it seems to be be monitored by mac address...each individual system whether it be pc, laptop, or tablet gets a vote...trying to vote twice on the same system doesn't work...which cuts down on sandbagging by a pretty good margin, although not completely...Smiley: wink

If you have to make me choose it would be Dark Elf Bard and Vah Shir Druid.

I would prefer All class with All races.
really?

How about 1 new race available to each class or new class available to each race....1 new combo seems incredibly lack luster

Poor choices, IMO...
# Dec 06 2013 at 5:11 PM Rating: Good
I agree that the DE ranger will probably win out; like the DE's don't already have most class choices, anyhow. If this were a true players choice poll - it would be left up to the "player's" to choose what class/race combo WE wanted to see added, not SOE's.

The obvious one IMO, should always have been Vah Shir Monk!!! If a Drakkan and Ikky can be Monk's, then the 3rd choice should have always been a Vah Shir...!?!?

I won't even bother voting, since I wouldn't be making a new char from ANY of the choices given.

I do like the fact that there is a new class/race combo being considered; that just means that EQ should still be alive and kicking for years to come..../crosses fingers.
Poor choices, IMO...

And you only thought the number of Drizzts and Druzzts and Dhrizts and Driztts was bad before; just WAIT till the DE ranger is enabled. SOE will spend weeks doing forced namechanges. The Vah Shir Monk is a decade late and only getting later. The only thing that makes sense in terms of the game lore is the Iksar Berserker. And they put it up against the only combination that is in any way interesting - the Dwarf SK - in terms of having to fashion new lore to explain their origin (since dwarves don't even get a evil deity selection, hard-coded for good as a race).
Poor choices, IMO...

When only adding one combo... (we've already got a thread on the eq general forums expressing the fail of the froglok monk decision)...

...why make two of them classes that have easily obtainable clicky items to look that way anyways? (dark elf bard & erudite rogue).

...vah shir druid is interesting, and doomed to lose vs. dark elf ranger. In a one choice only vote... is there even a point since they included dark elf ranger in the choices?

...wood elf beastlord makes decent sense, but it makes more sense for a race to have the parent shaman class (froglok should already have beastlord for example)... so to me this combo choice should have been for both shaman and bst.

...wow, a gnome with a tinkered pet. boring. won't get played, but might win a round of voting due to people thinking it is funny.

...Iksar berserker should have been in the game since that class was introduced. That correction shouldn't be a part of this. so this option will garner a fair slice of votes from purists, maybe even enough to lose in the final to dark elf ranger. But, bad bracket draw in the first round might sink it... since the only truly novel thing they've put on the list faces off against it.

...Dwarf Shadowknight comes down to lore development and deity choice. Agnostic is a cop out. Where is the home city? Kaladim makes no sense. Freeport... alright, Qeynos sewers... okay. Thurgadin... now that's a win.

Not impressed with the way they are going about this at all... and I am in favor of them adding stuff.

Now, if they add 1 combo every 6 months for the next 5 years.... they will have gotten it right. (Just remove the 4 least-voted options and lay out a new slate for the next brackets... and maybe give us some int casters to vote for?).

shrug

Wood Elves have never been in touch with the Beastlord nature, they are nature loving and not savage enough for it. As for the Gnome, come on now, a Beastlord is supposed to find a kindred spirit a living feral creature whose spirit the Beastlord augments as they both grow in power, no tinkered pet no matter how advanced will ever be alive enough to be a real warder. The warder isn't just a pet, it is the vessel that allows the Beastlord to control the feral power he has taken on, without that living connection to nature and the spirit world a Beastlord will go completely feral and become a wild animal, neither of those 2 races fit. Frogloks are the only ones that come close enough to being a match for the Beastlord class seeing as they are animals to begin with and closer to the power needed to be a Beastlord while a Gnome is just a snack.
