World of Warplanes to Launch in September
Wargaming's next big hit takes off
Wargaming.net announced this morning that World of Warplanes will officially release on September 26th for North America and Europe. Lucky players in CIS countries will have access to the game a day sooner on September 25th. This follows an extended beta period during which nearly three million players registered to take part. Since the game went into open beta in early July, the team has been collecting and implementing player feedback.
“In the two months since open beta, we've made a huge amount of progress,” says Development Director Oleg Gotynyan. “We expect [World of Warplanes] to offer a deep and polished experience to both MMO fans and flight combat enthusiasts alike.”
Potential players may recognize Wargaming from their previous effort, the critical and commercial hit, World of Tanks. Since launch, that game has amassed over 60 million users and continues to grow. The company is bringing the same principles which rocketed Tanks to stardom into Warplanes, including more than 100 different customizable aircrafts from the U.S., Russia, Japan, Germany, and Britain. Planes can be customized with an incredible amount of depth through new weapons, engines, machinery and paint jobs—each unlocked by default or through in-game experience. Warplanes will represent the company's revised “free to win” philosophy which now excludes pay-only ammo.
Attendees of Gamescom are encouraged to stop by the Wargaming booth for their chance to win exclusive prizes from both J!NX and Nvidia, as well to contribute to the already staggering 202 million combat flights already having taken place.
Gareth "Gazimoff" Harmer will be meeting with the Wargaming crew at Gamescom, so expect more from him this week.
