League of Legends Regionals at PAX
LCS regional finals month to decide who goes on to the $2M World Championships!
With eyes glued to the LCS (League of Legends Championship Series) as teams climb over one another to reach top spot, Riot is busy prepping the stage at PAX and Gamescom for the regional finals. The professional League of Legends teams have been jousting for position in this week’s Super Week, with all but first place decided it is anybody’s game to win. At the end of the week the top 6 teams will go on to the Regionals.
The North American teams will fly out to PAX Prime on August 30 where the NA Regionals will be held, but only the top three will be awarded spots in the $2,000,000 World Championship tournament, the finals of which are to be held in the Staples Center on October 4. The European Regionals are to take place August 21-25 at Gamescom.
With an audience of 10,000 people expected to attend, the World Championship tickets were to be on sale today, but the sale has been delayed due to technical issues. The semi-finals will be held in the Galen Center on September 16, the same venue that hosted last year’s World Championships with 7,000 spectators in attendance and over 8.2 million online.
Judging by the 18 million unique viewers who watched the League of Legends All-Star tournament in Shanghai, it would be fair to say there is a lot of interest in League of Legends eSports.
