Wargaming.net Account Security breached

World of Tanks developer advises players to change their password following security breach

Developer of World of Tanks, Wargaming has warned they have detected a security breach in its account system, players are advised to change their password immediately and will get 300 gold for doing so. We are assured no financial information was accessed, but Wargaming believe that "some password hashes and email addresses may have been affected by the compromise."

The developers of the 50 million user strong Wargaming.net gaming platform have suggested players also change their password on other sites sharing the same password as thier Wargaming.net account:

"The security of your account is very important to us at Wargaming. As a precaution, we are launching a global campaign to increase the security of your account.  To start, sign into your account on the World of Tanks portal to access the security tools. Please reset your Wargaming ID account password using the Account Management page.

If you have been using your old Wargaming ID password on other sites, we strongly recommend that you change those passwords too."

It is unfortunate that we live in a world where things like this are fairly common, but hopefully developers will learn from their mistakes and users will learn not to use the same password across many sites, as is often the case. We urge all of you to act on Wargaming's advice as soon as possible and hope none of you are affected by this.

World of Tanks is the most popular online free-to-play tank action game, with millions of players world-wide. You can signup and play for free, this weekend is an especially good time to play with the just announced bonuses starting on Saturday
