FanFest introduces "Make EVE Real"
CCP's annual gathering to include talks on the science behind space travel.
MMO conventions are an incredible experience. There’s the chance to catch up with friends you’ve only spoken to online, grab some exclusive merchandise, and ask the developers that question you’ve had bugging you.
In an interesting twist to EVE FanFest 2013 later this month, CCP will also be offering the chance to catch up on science fact as well as science fiction. As part of the “Make EVE Real” session track, the Icelandic developer has invited prominent scientists to speak about the technology that could make interstellar travel a reality.
Included in the lineup is Michael Lane, President of LiftPort Group, who will be sharing some of the history and evolution behind the Space Elevator concept. Discussing the challenges surrounding faster-than-light travel is Dr Richard Obousy, President and Co-Founder of Icarus Interstellar. Wrapping things up is Chris Lewicki, President of Planetary Resources, who will be describing how space exploration will be planned around resources and asteroid mining.
While FanFest attendees will be able to join these sessions in-person, livestream viewers will also be able to watch these fascinating talks. The standard-definition quality stream will be available free of charge on Twitch.TV, with HD-quality FanFest coverage available for $19.95 / €19.95 direct from CCP.
