New Logitech G Lineup Unveiled
Logitech declares that 'Science Wins' with a new range of accessories
Veteran peripheral maker Logitech has just launched a new line aimed squarely at the PC gamer. Named Logitech G, the lineup includes four gaming grade mice, two LCD-augmented keyboards, and a pair of padded headsets with noise-cancelling microphones.
The unveiled keyboards and mice are redesigns of existing fan favorites, following in-depth research by Logitech on how we use our devices. We’re told that the team studied the interaction between hand and device during heavy gaming sessions, using infrared technology to identify those crucial tactile zones. The result is something that Ehtisham Rabbani, general manager of Logitech gaming, described as “Science Wins.”
The result is an improvement in both durability and comfort, according to Logitech. They state that “advanced surface materials” have been added to vital areas, while fingerprint resistant coatings have been added for the regions we touch the most. Areas that come into regular contact with your palm have also seen some love, with a hydrophobic coating added to keep hands from slipping.
MMO gamers are likely to be particularly excited by the new G19s Gaming Keyboard. It features that large, full color LCD panel that’s incredibly useful in World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2. The keyboard also features custom color backlighting that can be tied to a profile, making it easy to make sure you’ve got the right settings for each game you’re playing. For those on a tighter budget, the updated G510s Gaming Keyboard also has that all-important LCD, while still delivering some of the features of its upmarket sibling.
Leading the mouse pack is the new flagship G700s Rechargeable Gaming Mouse. Packing 2.4 GHz wireless technology and 13 programmable controls, it’s a tempting alternative to button-heavy MMO mice like the G600. Rounding things off are those new surfaces and coatings, coupled with low-friction PTFE feet for smooth gliding.
For those of us that have been crying out for a successor to the legendary MX 518, the G400s Optical Gaming Mouse might just be it. Built specifically for first-person shooters, the mouse also includes Logitech’s Delta Zone sensor technology, paired with primary mechanical microswitches that are good for 20-million clicks.
Top of the new headsets is the Logitech G430 Surround Sound Gaming Headset. With Dolby Headphone 7.1 sound technology included, the headset also uses washable ear cups that Logitech say will be comfortable for long gaming sessions. It also includes a boom mic that can be folded away when not in use. For those preferring the simpler sound of stereo, the Logitech G230 Stereo Gaming Headset also includes those washable ear cups and a foldable mic.
The full range can be found on the Logitech G website, with preorders already being taken. We’re told that the lineup should be available in the US from April 2013, while gamers in Europe can expect to see them in May.
