Fixing Bad Behavior in League of Legends
Riot takes a stance against toxic player behavior in its community
League of Legends has been in the news a lot as of late, sometimes for the wrong reasons. Earlier this week, Riot took a bold and celebrated step to ban a pro player from competition due to his toxic behavior. This trend isn't sitting well with the game's creators so they're proactively doing something about it.
Gamasutra's Christian Nutt spoke to Riot's Travis George, Lead Producer on League of Legends, and learned that they've got some really smart people working on trying to address just this issue.
"We actually have built a team around this, to address it. We call it, lovingly, the PB&J Team, which stands for Player Behavior and Justice Team. And there's a lot of really talented folks on that team, including two PhDs. One's a cognitive neuroscientist and one's a behavioral psychologist."
Indeed, player behavior across the faceless Internet is a problem that, if left unchecked, could work to undermine the evolution of the games we love so much. Kudos for Riot on taking this stance. Here's to hoping other developers follow suit.
