Quick Vehicle FAQ

OK this is a little write up I made for vehicle FAQ after I had to answer the same questions over and over today. Yes, I was bad, I played SWG all day and didn't work, but it's to your advantage now. :P I will describe some details and a few known faq's and bugs. This may not all be accurate information come tomorrow, yanno how those hotfixes pop in now and then. This was near accurate when posting. Vehicles, at this time decay rather rapidly. I don't know if this is a bug or intended to be this way. I know that the Swoop bike loses 25 points of HAM upon vehicle generation. I heard others lose the 25 HAM upon storage. Rapid decay also happens at top speeds. Playing with your vehicle for 10 minutes may cause it to lose near 100 HAM. Depending on the quality of resources used, your HAM can vary from 1500-3000. The decay causes the vehicle to need repairs. Repair can only be done in a garage. To my knowledge there are very few garages in the game at this time, so you will have to wait in line or let your vehicle decay to nothing or destroy and buy a new one. Repair is costly and some people may actually be saving money by just buying the new one. Repair happens while your vehicle sits in the garage and at every repair tick takes cash from your wallet. Storing vehicles for some is bugged and this is why some cities look like used car lots. If you can't store your vehicle from the radial, try the datapad. I also found if you click around to different areas on the bike it changes if you can store it or not. I have the same problem when trying to pick up furniture sometimes. Vehicles come in three type, as you have seen on the patch update notes, and must be crafted by a Master Artisan. They come in deed form and once deeded, can't be sold or traded. If you decide the swoop isn't for you, you will have to destroy it to change your vehicle. Also since I'm on the subject of deeds, if you request a unique name for your speeder, it will change to default upon first vehicle generation.
• Swoop Bike (AoTC) This speeder costs the most to craft/buy. It's rate of decay is considerable, it's lifespan extremely vulnerable and costs the most to repair. However this is the one that is the fastest and most fun to play on. Looks like a real life chopper without wheels. See link for image taken from SOE site. 6400 Ferrous Metal 1600 Non-Ferrous Metal Takes 47 seconds to craft.
• Speeder Bike (RoTJ) This speeder is midway on every aspect. It's the median bike, still fun while cost effective in buying, decay, and repair. Looks like a future harley. See link for image taken from SOE site. 4800 Ferrous Metal 1200 Non-Ferrous Metal Takes 47 seconds to craft.
• X34 Landspeeder (ANH) This speeder is the cheaper of the three to craft/buy. It has the highest HAM and slowest decay rate, and looks more like a car. From what I have read, everyone wants this to be a two person capable vehicle. This is the Luke speeder to me, the one he used traversing Tatooine. See link for image taken from SOE site. 3125 Ferrous Metal 1125 Non-Ferrous Metal Takes 50 seconds to craft. A final comment, a guild mate stated in guild chat, "The Landspeeder made 7000m from Keren to a player city in 12 real time minutes. That's 35kph or about 20 miles an hour." I can't wait to go in game and ride some more! See you at the track! Edit #1: to fix resource error Edit #2: to fix sell/trade comment Thanks guys!

I can't believe you people are whining about a measly 5 cred per HP repaired. i drove my swoop all day long for only 10k credits in repairs. 10k, thats maybe 2 missions, one single run out. Buncha penny pinchers yall are, no wonder crafters have to sell at a loss to get u people to buy stuff.

Just want to point out that vehicles can be traded after the deed has been used. I personally traded my swoop bike to a friend from my datapad.

The vehicles are great but...

First I have to down grade my mount and when I get him back he's lost his saddle. So I have to track down a CH to retrain him. I'm an Engineer IV so I mainly use him to get around and run from things. I know I'm saving for a vehicle.

Last night I'm sitting in my house trying to crank stuff out and I can't find the schematics for mineral extractors, flora farms or a bunch of other things.

Has anyone else had these problems?

I'm kind of new here so I was wondering how long it usually takes SOE to correct stuff like that?

Thanks

Greetings everybody.

I really wanted to know if anyone had encountered what happened to me. I have a Swoop bike which I have been riding around to my heart's delight. I then decided to add some width to my vehicle repository and purchased a X34-Landspeeder. When I tried to "build" it from the deed I got the error message that I had too many vehicles in my datapad and would need to remove one before getting new ones.

Does anyone know? Is 1 vehicle really the limit?

I copied the post from Thunderheart to here in case some of you can't read the SOE forums. The post originates here.

Quote:
I apologize for this being such a big subject and such a short post, but I have to catch a plane in just a little bit and Im already out of time. I wanted to say something abut this because I know this is important. I will summarize as best I can on the fly here.

As it stands, there will be 1 vehicle allowed in your datapad at a time. You can carry vehicle deeds with you. I know thats going to be disappointing to some and the team knows how I/we feel about it (I want one of each myself).

The problem is that with vehicle speeds the way they are, running missions is going to take much less time. Less time to make money means more money in the game world. More money in the game world means economic inflation is a big risk. We have to balance economy with fun and it has to be one step at a time.

There was a lot of fluctuation in resources and repair costs, HP, etc over the past couple of weeks which is making a clear discussion kind of tough at this point. (I posted them in a nearby thread) We have what is a pretty balanced number and some key elements are set up as "soft data" so we can make changes as necessary.

Remeber too, this is just the first iteration of vehicles. Crafting elements will be expanded in the future, we'll have the display models, more vehicles, etc.

Vehicle Storage!!

Just wanted to point out that if you have trouble storing your vehicle you can simply get off, walk a few feet away, use the datapad to "generate vehicle" so that it's near you again..and then it will store with no problem. Hope this helps clear up the car lot!! Enjoy everyone! -Aelani

Repairs:

All I did to repair my vehicle was...
I stood in front of the Kor Vella Starport, and used the radial menu on my vehicle. There was a Repair option. I selected it, chose to pay the costs, and the swoop was repaired to max condition just like that.
My Two Credits Worth

I haven't had a chance to use the vehicles live but I've been using them on the TC for awhile now. I can't believe they went live with this storing issue they have. it's been that way on TC from the start, I'v e wrote about it on the TC forum and still they come out with it like this! They also reised the repair cost, was 4 per on TC and even that was high! On to some other info, TH wrote that they do have plans for both different paint schemes on them as well as the ability to have a display version like pets and droids, yay! Just gonna take time. There also aren't any player city garages yet and no word on when they will be out, however they do have the building pictures on the PC buildings listing on the official site. So who knows? Also no word on if PC's will be able to have garages or if they are civic only.

I also made vehicles on the TC using just standard tools and a public crafting station and they turned out with 1800 hp. After running around with it for about 4-6 hours I had put over 3k in repairs on it! Man, that is WAY to much!!! Mentioned that on the forums to, what did they do? raised it!!! Oh well, thats my two credits worth.

Even after all that I still can't wait to get my swoop! :-)

the only way the machine is hurt when calling it is in NPC town near buildings. (aside from crashing and argo critters)
Building collisions seem to hurt, ramping does NOT hurt things.
I rode for hours with no losses, called it 20 times in my player town if no losses, called it and lost 13-25 pts in the standard NPC towns.

Repair costs vary by machine type, the faster it is easier it is to damage and more per point to repair.

There is no "walk" option and no brakes, so be careful :)

Garages are near most starports- just look for them

oops forgot, speed is 70% on water.

And there was on release day a bug where you could have a machine that didn't store and thus many machines were left behind as you couldn't pick them up....
This didn't stop you from calling the vechilce again, thus appearing like you have 2-3 of the same ride out at once.
I suspect this phantom leftover vechile bug will be hotfixed today

for those that didnt know this

Garages are the buildings with the double big huge windows. IN coronet there is a garage s se of the starport outside the wall. Also there is one north of the eastern triple gate.

It may not be lag, rather a full graphics cashe, check the forums for the command that may clear it and help out on that issue. Try turning some of your graphics options down. There is only so much info going through those internet connections. If the game is so Unenjoyable, then QUIT.

Good FAQ, I was really stunned how quickly people were buying up ANY vehicle without knowing a thing about them.

a couple little additions/adjustments:
You CAN trade generated and store vehicles like droids or pets (irk)

and I did a couple little time trials and figured that the swoop does about 25 m/s = 1.5 km/min
(so nice and speedy)

while its fun to jet across down the rivers and watch the water splash up behind you, the vehicles do go slower over water. Particularly the x34, which seems to actually drag its tail on the water...

the decay rates seem (for my vehicles that all topped at 95% durability) to be:
swoop - 25 pt increments (at spawning, and at a time interval I haven't figured out)
speederbike - 12 pt increments
x34 - 7 pt increments

so far there doesn't seem to be any collision damage. But do be careful, some red cons spawned near my house, where my swoop was parked, and one of them ran over and started blasting it. 1200 damage is a pain.

The garages are available at every non-player city, and they always seem to be on the edge of town. You'll get a message when you're close enough to repair it. But it isn't automated, you have to select repair from your radial menu and pay a fee (not sure of the costing method yet)

Hope this helps =)
Too much
# Dec 17 2003 at 7:52 AM Rating: Default
If it's really five credits per point repaired at the garages, they need to either make vehicles decay slower or cut down that price. Maybe 10K isn't a whole lot in the game, but at the rate these things decay an active player who uses it for a while every day will be paying a whole lot of money just to keep a speeder intact... that's not realistic at all.

As soon as I got the chance today, I logged on my crafter character on the Bloodfin server, and promptly crafted one vehicle of each type.

Now, I don't think this is merely coincidence, but about 4 days before the vehicles went live there was a perfect type of steel available on Tatooine(Bloodfin) with 1000 shock resistance. It's still there, as far as I know (I used my Landspeeder to drive out and do maintenence on my 7 personal harvesters about 1000m away from my workshop). As soon as I saw that stuff pop up, I uprooted every harvester I had, and used all of my available lots to harvest this super-steel for the past few days, because shock resistance is usually the only thing considered when making melee weapons, among other things (vehicles). Since I had about 30,000 units of this steel stashed away in my workshop, I decided to go ahead and use some of it to make myself one of each vehicle. I used a good aluminum for the non-ferrous metal with shock resistance around 760. Between the steel at 1000 and the aluminum at 760, and using my 11.65 kit and 34.75 crafting station, I was able to use 10 experimentation points on each of my vehicles and get them up to about 95% effectiveness. I figured that if the experimentation really did apply to the hit points of the end result, then I would use the best stuff I had to make my own vehicles. Unfortunately, they don't actually show you the health on the vehicles (not yet, anyway; I'm hoping they change that soon), so I couldn't really tell if using my super-steel was worth it or not. However, I did do quite a bit of driving around in my Landspeeder; from my workshop outside of Mos Eisley to my wind harvester outside of Bestine, then through Bestine and around town (where I first really noticed the ghosting vehicles problem), and finally back to my workshop, and I really didn't notice much degradation at all. A few times I was even shot at by various bandits and hermits. Hopefully, my Landspeeder turned out extremely well, and it has a ton of hit points, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Also, as far as the ghosting thing goes when you exit the vehicle and try to store it... well, simply don't exit the vehicle. Just store it while you're riding on it, and I don't think it will ghost. I actually got out of my Landspeeder and went to store it, and since it wouldn't work, I went to the data pad to try, and it didn't show the store option in the datapad. Instead it showed the option to generate a vehicle... lo and behold, using this option would pop out a brand new Landspeeder, while I was still standing next to my first one! Well, I stored the new ghost, then climbed back into my original Landspeeder, and was able to store it from the driver's seat.

Hopefully the patch today will fix the problem of 100000000000 vehicles burning and exploding outside of every major shuttle and starport. Near most of these parking lots, my frames per second... err... my seconds per frame was simply horrible.

Public garages are available in (apparently) every non-player city. The /find command does not work for them, but if you view the overhead map (CNTRL+M) you can usually find them near the spaceports as perfectly square structures. Once in view, you will recognize them by their two "bays" lit with a white light. Just come within 64m of them and you'll get a system message saying you're within range. You will then have a fourth option on your vehicle radial menu to "repair" it. The cost is currently 5 credits per point repaired.

u flipped the resources around for the swoop bike and speederbike

also, the x34 apparently requires a private crafting station (maybe just a station) and cannot be crafted in the field on the fly unless u have droid with....lol...crafting station

USE GOOD RESOURCES -- Shock Resistance is the only attribute that you need to worry about..if its over 800...a master artisan with good tools and station can experiment durability considerably...

i saw people touting their vehicles as finely crafted best resources blah blah blah they are just trying to recoup their costs for gambling and hoarding tons of resources that had high OQ or whatever... Shock Resistance people...thats it

also, i sold mostly x34's but use speederbike (not swoop) myself ...i used it all day call ing storing idling and have yet to repair it....the red bar is at about 90%....i used 850+ Shock Resistance, 14.55 crafting tool and (i believe) 26+ crafting station...

btw..thanks for the info...i got bombarded by questions all day

i was selling x34 for 20k - speederbike for 28k - and swoop bike for 35k AND crafting with player provided resources for 2k any style and i backed up their resources if failed (none did - crafted about 20) i gave away about 3 or 4 sold about 10 and crafted about 3-4 more

thanks for reading/posting
