UPDATE Sept. 9th: Around 1:10 p.m. EDT the Nagafen server (EQ2) came back online. Go play!

UPDATE Sept. 9th: Around 9:50 a.m. EDT Linda "Brasse" Carlson announced on Twitter, "All services have been restored to SOE San Diego - GAME ON!"

A widespread power outage that struck San Diego this afternoon has brought down Sony Online Entertainment and many of its services. Currently login servers and forums are confirmed as down, though players already logged in seem unaffected. Zoning while in-game may disconnect you. Linda "Brasse" Carlson has been answering some questions on Twitter:

Brasse: SOE and most of San Diego has just lost power. No ETA. ;(
Brasse: “@cuppy: @Brasse Rolling blackouts?” not unless they rolled it out across the entire city and surrounds with no advance notice.
Brasse: “@gdcurry: @Brasse ACK! Was there an earthquake?” No earthquake discernable from this location. We are clueless as to cause
Brasse: “@NickMcLaren: @cuppy @brasse According to 10news, unplanned and no idea of the cause yet” [I blame the Vanu #Planetside]

For those of you locked out during this downtime you are welcome to join us on ZAM's IRC chat. Feldon of EQ2Wire also has set up a ZAM IRC java applet that you can use.

Past updates:

UPDATE Sept. 9th: As of 8:30 a.m. EDT power is restored for much of San Diego. Most EverQuest and EverQuest II servers are reported to be online. The Free Realms web site is back online.

UPDATE Sept. 9th: Around 12:30 a.m. EDT John Smedley, President, Sony Online Entertainment, sent out these tweets:

@j_smedley: Outage update - we have restored most games. Our AT&T facility in San Diego looks like it lost pwr for a split sec switching to gen.

@j_smedley: We have got most things back up. We are working on EQ and some SWG servers. Sorry for the delay in service. All of San Diego is out

UPDATE Sept. 8th: As of 12:30 a.m. EDT, EverQuest servers are back up and running.

UPDATE Sept. 8th: As of 9:15 p.m. EDT login servers are back online. Some servers are confirmed as up. Power is still out at SOE and it may not be until tomorrow for all services to be restored.

Oi.. servers are down again? Haven't seen any reports on blackouts or anything.. Several of my friends and I can't get on the Oasis server after randomly being kicked to Character select with the status of 'Server Down'.

Its still down, according to a post on the FB EQ2 page they have a database issues cuased by the power outage last niight.
No more info tho :( and its only 30 minutes before its our raid time, looks like it will no raid if they dont fix it in time.

I wish that was true but i was able to login for 15 minutes and now Nagafen is down again :(
And still not one word about what is going on,the power was restored a few hours ago so why is there still downtime for Nagafen and why isn't there any official word about what is going on?

Hmmm interesting, I went through the character creation screen before updating the article and Nagafen showed as up at the time. If I see anything about it I'll let ya'll know!

On the FB EQ2 page are many complaints too, so its not my connection :)
But its very annoying i want to go raid in 2 hours from now so i hope the will go and fix whatever is going on.

How can it be that they say all servers are up? While Nagafen is still down.
And why is there not any information why Nagafen is the only server that is down?
Many people are complaining on the FB Page of EQ2 that they can't acces Nagafen.
I can't login either, but i can login my other toons on other servers.
But i'm only active at Nagafen so there is not much fun to play toons that i never use.
An update about what is going on with Nagafen would be nice i think.

I haven't seen so much low level activity in years on AB. At least 50+ sub 10 characters in POK at the quiet time(euro time) on the server..."Universal chat" message was up and down all night..It brought back memories of the past. Very surreal and refreshing.

I ended up loggin out my main and bringing my level 10 (trader) Druid out to help a returning player and had some fun with low level pick up groups in CR and then B.Moors. I also haven't given away small amounts of plat so many times in a night to fellow EQ players trying to get their fix with newly created characters while the other servers were down.

I must say, the break from the normal grind was fun,fun,fun.

Why should we receive anything for something that was completely out of Sony's control. Sony does not owe anyone anything for this down time. It was out of their control.

That's not true. Speak for yourself. Double xp not good for you? Then start another Alt. And if all your alt's are maxed (doubtful). Then start another free account. Everyone always has something they can do with double xp........... No question!!!!!!!!!! Now I know we just had a dsc and dxp so I'm not really expecting anything. As long as SOE isn't down for 3 weeks like last time..lol

K got it , since Oasis is up ... it shows up in my chars list.
Since Antonia Bayle is down , the chars dont show up.

Thing is the "perception" is chars are gone as the option to make a new char is there.

I remember that bug well , if you make a new char , and the others come back , you will not have acces to that new char =)

cmon AB !!!!!!!

ps ... grrrr @ the server status page sayin everything is up.

I've been stalking this to see when people are getting in.. as soon as I saw this post I tried logging into Station, and it worked. The game is now launching, so I have no idea if it's going to let me in or not.

Heh, that really sucks.
I just wanted to say, for me at least, I don't regret coming back at all. I've missed the game so much, and so happy that I came back. I just started playing again for about a month now.

I was on for almost a half hour after the outage until I decided to zone into my house, and then got booted. It's possible that whatever servers are hosted on the west coast got dumped right away, however.

Yeah, Im sure paying people to NOT work for four years will help our infrastructure. Besides, infrastructure is a word that is a synonym for "stimulus" when incorporated into politics, basically make work that doesnt create anything permanent and when the money's gone, so is the job

If you're still logged in everything should be fine. Just be aware that zoning has a high chance of disconnecting you.
