Veil of Alaris Concept Art

From EQLive, here is a look at some concept art (and a rundown of the process) from the upcoming Veil of Alaris expansion:

For those of you who haven't heard the term "concept art" before, let us briefly explain. After a designer comes up with a concept for something new to introduce to EverQuest, they need to get their ideas translated into a visual form. Because ideas are so open to interpretation, frequently an artist will do a quick piece of art to give a visual reference point for the design. The designer provides the artist with a description and visual references (photographs or other art pieces), and the artists attempt to transmute that into visual form. This way the designers can take a look and further refine ideas, and artists have something solid to base their implementation of the designers ideas off of.

Here we're presenting to you 3 (sic) exciting pieces of concept art from the upcoming expansion. No concept art piece is directly put into the game; often there are significant changes that the design concept undergoes before it becomes a part of Norrath. These pieces will give you an idea, however, about some of the directions we are headed in with EverQuest: Veil of Alaris.

You know, they never got into the lore with the unkempt wood, or the unkempt druids. they stopped at the jagged pine Forrest. I wonder if this is where the folks will gain access to the new expansion....

If they are going to stick with the tentacled alienish look they really should change the skin-tone from blue. Otherwise we just have super-model-figured Draenei (a WoW race for those not aware).

I'm sure there is some other tint and/or pattern combos that would work.

I don't think there's an original idea left for any game these days. Everything created in games these days is usually a copy of something else in literature, movies, or other games. For example, did anyone notice that the flame nekkon model ( the new illusion in the /market) and in the hot and sod expansion looks similiar to the balrog (sp?)demon-thing in LOTR or that mercs were not an idea exclusive to eq, or for that matter that eq is based on D&D.

That being said, Im excited about the new expansion, however I'm not thrilled about the lore behind it. Aliens? Really? Are the related to the little dudes on luclin? Rumor has it, this is the first tep in converting us all to eqnext..... getting us to all get off norrath so they can blow it up..

Actually the illusion IS a balrog. Have it on my bard and during the bard 1.5 the dragon in wakening lands refers to you as your race, and since I had the illusion on, he kept calling me Balrog.
