SOE Chat, Server and Session Maintenance Dec 9

Anticipated 11 hour downtime effects most games and services.

Beginning on Thursday, December 9th, at 1:00 am PST, the following SOE Services will be unavailable or interrupted while we undergo data center maintenance.

  • Chat Services
  • All Star Wars Galaxies Servers
  • All EQOA Servers
  • All PlanetSide Servers
  • All EQ servers
  • All Vanguard Servers
  • Session (Game Log-In)

The maintenance is expected to take approximately 11 hours, with a return to normal functionality around 12:00 pm PST. During this maintenance period, some game servers will not be accessible. During Session maintenance, some servers may remain online, but players who log out may not be able to log back in. This maintenance may also affect the ability to log into our forums.

Remember EST?

The Eastern Time Zone holds most of the US population. They really should balance this seemingly perpetual downtime with that in mind. I hate when I wake up on my day-off (Tuesday) and I sit down to play at 8 AM, only to find out the servers are coming down for a 3-hour patch any minute (which BTW, is stupidly long)! Now THAT is some complete lack of common sense right there. This is because they don't want to get into the office earlier and do the patch at a reasonable time like 1 AM PST?! Sometimes I am amazed that this division of Sony has grown so large and profittable with such a blatant disregard for intelligent decisions =\

Well Shewter... The 11 hours is for Hardware Changes... not to fix game issues. So your whole "Get over it because they're awesome" doesn't really fly here. They should have backup servers to avoid issues like this. For example; A 24 hour store like Walmart doesn't just lock the doors in the middle of a weekday so they can sweep up a little or change prices. Sony should be more competent and start doing something to avoid all this downtime.

Get over it
# Dec 09 2010 at 11:58 AM Rating: Decent
I don't think it's a bad thing that they got on fixing their issues so quickly. I'll trade 11 hours of downtime for the weekends peak playtimes being full of playing instead of complaining about the lack of bonus aa xp.
As usual...

It looks like SOE not only disabled any logging in/out, but they also took the servers down, too. So much for staying online in New Halas to craft. Why not just tell people that they're taking everything offline for twelve hours instead of telling them that if they stay logged in, that they can play? SOE has never improved, and why I continue to give them my money is a mystery, even to me. SOE's operations people are as dim-witted and useless as their marketing people.
Stiffed as usual

We on EU servers always gets stiffed by SOE. After 6 years of playing EQ2, we're used to be treated as second class gamers. I have no illusions about that ever changing. As they know we're hooked on the game, they can and do get away with it. Customer care? They clearly don't need it - and indeed they don't have any.

Just hoping I'll be able to play for 1-2 hours later tonight.

I have a novel idea!! How about you take some of those millions you make off the EQ Community each month and have backup servers that are up and ready to go, with the new patches, maintenance and upgrades installed so that you could then, make a seemless transition over to the updated servers which would inturn lesson or eliminate the need for server downtime.

Could you imagine if E-commerce Hosted websites came down for maintenance, patches, and various other issues as much as EQ Servers do???? Oh, let me think...NOT!

What happened to the patch notices???

Guess SOE can do sporatic patches and maintenance anytime they want now without giving prior notice!

It used to be that when they'd do patches and maintenance they would give you a few days to weeks 'heads up'.

I personally find it frustrating to login only to find the servers down / locked for half a day and then having to refer to Alla just to find out how long they're down for; (that's only when Alla posts the DT --- if they even know about it!)

Another sidenote on that: whenever SOE does a patch (no matter how big or small it is), how about mentioning what the patch entailed. Have the courtesy to say what you fixed, changed or "broke" (lmao)... rather than no mention at all. (I.E.,) a 10 mintue patch DL, that caused the servers to be down for 2 hours....WTH did you change? tell us...less it's something you don't want us to know about?? Bah....!

Here's an idea... how about doing more frequent patches for less time per patch? Let's say do weekly maintenance / patches that are only 2-3 hrs long (during non-peak playtimes) instead of 10+ hour long ones, only then having to bring them back down the next day for several MORE hours to fix the botched patch the day before?

Try taking smaller bites on patches...so you can actually fix the 'problems' that arise from so many changes all at once...? (Food for thought?)

You guys need to pay attention. THIS IS NOT A PATCH!!! The secretary at Sony ran out and bought a new Dell that they are putting EQ1 and EQ2 on. I saw it on Newegg... it was a server on sale for $400... they couldn't pass it up! The point is, this is maintenance downtime to replace hardware. THIS IS NOT A PATCH!

AGAIN... they should be more competent and do something to avoid all this downtime!

I dont know when you will fix the zoning problems from other zones to the TSS zones and back.. EVERY time I try to zone my client crashes. And the flickering environment.. Is it a bug or is my video card not sufficient for some purposes ?? After restarting the game everything is okay.I wrote a bug report but no answer. After 2 days patch hope those problems will be fixed.
Downtime

Well yet again, the EU players have been stuffed.
8 hours of downtime yesterday.
11 hours today.

This says all servers are up, BUT
No one can log in to any server at all.
Whats the betting we wont even get a free days play for all the loss of game time.
