Hotfix: Earn Master Riding with Violet Proto-DrakeOct 16th, 2010 at 10:32 AM by Togikagi

The upcoming hotfix will let players automatically learn the 310% flight speed skill when they obtain the mount.

Zarhym just posted some good news for anyone who's attempting to complete the "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" achievement to obtain the Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake. Blizzard will be adding a hotfix that will award players Master riding (310% flight speed) when they earn the mount.

Blizzard's reasoning behind the change is that it won't be any easier to obtain the drake once Cataclysm is live. Even at level 85, it's still going to take a year or more to get the mount. How close are you to completing the achievement? Have you already earned the Violet Proto-Drake?

I'm pretty sure you can still get faction discount on this to bring it down to 4k. Still expensive for such a small increase in speed though. Especially when the recent trend seems to have been to make mounts easier and cheaper to get (lower level requirements, removal of quests for class mounts etc).

It is nice to see that they added the 310 movement back with the achievement.

In the scope of things, 5,000gp is not that much for one toon for that little extra get up and go.

It pans out to be 10,000gp per character which can be a bit much if your playing multiple toons but it is still easier then a years worth of achievements in my opinion.

I finished everything in the first year apart from the pvp part of childrens week (I rarely pvp and that particular achievement seemed kinda stupid). This year I was taking a break from the game during childrens week so I missed it again.

My DK has the drake..and I just gave up on doing the events on my hunter..how i'd like to kick my self in the butt for that.

Now I'm working on getting it on both my Warrior and Hunter.
Just waiting until next Tuesday to add game time (Halloween event ^-^) to continue the year long march to awesomeness.

Now come cata, if it is easy to make 5k..then sure I'll buy it. But as it stands, my Warrior only has the 1st flying speed, not epic..as 5k for Epic just isn't worth it for him (he doesn't really fly around).

That's good to hear, because I refuse to pay 5k for an extra 30% flight speed. That's stupid. I don't mind paying it to go from 150 to 280, as that's almost twice the speed, but 5k for an extra 30 is a waste of gold.
