Best Trailer
Winner: Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium
The problem with some E3 trailers is that you get a lot of cinematography and visuals that you won’t see when you play the game. As soon as we started watching the trailer for Dark Millennium, we knew that wouldn’t be the case in this instance. Since word first leaked out that an MMO in the Warhammer 40,000 universe was coming, fans have clamored for information and while the trailer was sparse on concrete details, the in-game graphics displayed gave the fans hope that their beloved series would get fair treatment. Space marines, Orks and numerous vehicle types were on display, all reasons to get excited about the game. Now that the game is out in the open, we can only hope for more scenes like this one to sate our voracious appetite for all things 40K.
Runner Up: Star Wars: The Old Republic
With the production studios that LucasArts has at its disposal, it isn’t surprising that The Old Republic placed high on our list. But even with that knowledge, watching the Hope trailer depicting the Rebels fighting back on the planet of Alderaan was nothing short of popcorn material. From the sheathing of the Rebel commander's knife prior to the first ambush, to the appearance of the Jedi who saves his butt, to the final scene of an inbound fleet after the Rebel victory, the trailer keeps you riveted to your seat. We wish all trailers kept your blood pumping as much as this one did. Here's hoping the game provides the same adrenaline rush.
Runner Up: Battlestar Galactica
We have very little clue yet about the inner workings of this upcoming game from Bigpoint, but the minute the Vipers started coming down the launch tube on the Galactica, any fan of the original series or the re-imagined show couldn’t help but feel a tingle without even seeing the name of the game. The trailer does an incredible job of reviving the human vs. Cylon feelings of its audience without ever showing one member of either race. The whole purpose of a game trailer is to build excitement, and this one was right on the mark.
