In-Depth TERA Interview with Brian Knox
You voted. We delivered. An in-depth interview with the Executive Producer of En Masse Entertainment, Brian Knox, about your most anticipated game of E3: TERA
MisterBones: WoW has the Lich King and The Old Republic has the Sith. Can you tell us a little bit about TERA’s antagonists, the Argons, and why they are such a threat?
BK: The Argons are a terrifying adversary because we know so little about them and their motivations. This isn’t just a case of territorial warfare—the Argons are fighting to change the very nature of existence. Plus the Argons command some terrifying technology. When you fight them for the first time, it’s going to be a big deal.
MisterBones: A couple of TERA’s trailers show our heroes being beaten up by the monsters! Is this your way of telling us that TERA’s enemies will be challenging?
BK: Yes, we expect players to receive a beat down from time to time. An important aspect of TERA is learning the different monsters’ tells and how to react to them. Players will need to remember their encounters with different types of creatures and then plan their strategies, actions, and formations accordingly.
MisterBones: The game overview section of the TERA website describes the endgame experience as “one where players and guilds vie for control of the Federation.” Does this have something to do with the game’s political system? Will our Popori be campaigning for president?
BK: Yes and yes. We haven’t outlined the details of the political system yet, but we believe it is a game-changer in terms of community and shaping the destiny of each server.
MisterBones: TERA’s races all look great and unique, but will they play differently? Will some have natural advantages as certain classes?
BK: We received a ton of feedback surrounding the differentiation of races and we are hard at work on this aspect of the game. Our goal is to ensure that each race has unique attributes without upsetting the balance of the game. The last thing you want is to have someone choose a race that is regarded as inferior. Half the fun of playing an MMO is having choices—being able to look the way you want to look and not being forced to play a specific race or class due to statistical advantages.
MisterBones: As you gear up for E3, what are you most excited to show off to the gaming world?
BK: Party dynamics and the action combat system. We’ve got a cool interactive demo to show off at E3 that will showcase TERA’s action combat, party play, and gorgeous world. I think people are going to be surprised at how important the action element is when it comes to party play.
