Jewelcrafting Nerf Coming in Next Major PatchMay 22nd, 2009 at 1:13 PM by Togikagi

Bornakk has announced an upcoming jewelcrafting change that will be implemented in the next major content patch. Blizzard will be removing the prismatic quality of the jewelcrafter-only Dragon’s Eye gems.

"Like other gems, they will have to match the socket color to receive a socket bonus. When this change occurs, players with qualifying jewelcrafting skill will be provided a yet to be determined amount of Dalaran Jewelecrafter Tokens as compensation."

They make them a color that's not even on the gear.

for example:

-say all the t8 mage gear is a combination of red and blue; they'll pick Yellow


This change is as smart as the Wintergrasp daily-to-weekly 'fix'. God forbid they actually make the craft-professions equal (coming from an Enchant / Engineer perspective).

What's also funny is now people will simply pick JC/BS as the ultimate end-game profession combo; x3 prismatic socks + x3 <whatever color> dragon eye gems.

This from a person whose label is "scholar"... can I suggest a new label of "village idiot"? First of all, the money the profession makes is not related to the nerf, you dolt. Second of all, the answer to something being the "only" profession to make money is to help raise the capabilities of the other professions... not tear down the ones that are doing well as you seem to desire.

It makes perfect sense. It's THREE GODDAMN GEM SLOTS. It's not like "enchanters being able to put any enchant on any piece of armor." And why shouldn't JC's be able to do this? It's an advantage of the profession, just like blacksmiths can add extra sockets, etc. If you want a better explanation - a person that has become highly skilled with gems has found a way to bypass the color requirements on socketed items. That's the reward you get for grinding the second most expensive profession in the game.

Considering I play all but two classes (warrior, priest), and have every profession 350+ except scribing...

I would have to agree. I don't see how it's fair that one profession gets a daily quest while the rest do not. It's like all the death knights you see. they can face roll and be top DPS, so why be any other class? if things do not get evened out why take any other profession that JC'ing? Obviously Blizzard saw an issue with it hence the nerf.

Well considering Jewelcrafters are about the only tradeskillers making money right now... yea nerf em. Tailoring right now is a joke and people won't pay for most enchants unless they are rare. Why do Jewelcrafters get a daily to make money while the rest of us starve?

Have to disagree there. I make a lot more gold from my alchemist than my jewelcrafter. I can sell elixirs for almost as much as an average cut gem and flasks for more. And people go through large amounts of elixirs/flasks. Someone only needs a couple of new gems when they get a gear upgrade but they might go through several flasks or elixirs in a raid. An alchemist with herbalism needs very little they can't get from their own gathering and never has any trouble selling what they make.
Other professions aren't so good for making gold though.

I think its a much needed nerf. You're not losing the gems. You're not losing the ability to use the gems. You're simply going to have to put more thought into how you use them. Imagine if an enchanter could put any enchant on any piece of armor. Or a BS who could put a socket on every single piece of armor. Right now you have JCs who can put their special gems in any slot without any thought to what they are doing. It doesn't make sense. The nerf isn't crippling. Its simply balancing. Its not completely defeating the use for jewelcrafting. Its just balancing it so its not the only profession people want for end-game.

Now buff engineering, leather working, and tailoring. kk thanks bai.
