Open beta testing for The Chronicles of Spellborn has launched today, giving access to all players who would like the opportunity to try out this "freemium" game before its official release. What exactly does "freemium" mean, you ask? Basically, players can enjoy a free-to-play zone at no cost, but must subscribe to a premium service to explore the rest of the content.

With the launch of open beta, the premium service is now activated. Also, a new PvE server named Dorzhan has opened. If PvP is more to your liking, try out the Deiquonril server. To join the open beta, you can download the client here and activate your Acclaim code here.

Even though the closed beta just ended, all player accounts will be wiped so everyone can start from scratch. You can read the press release regarding the announcement after the jump.

Los Angeles, CA (March 20, 2009) – Acclaim Games is pleased to announce the start of Open Beta testing for The Chronicles of Spellborn MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game).  With a successful round of Closed Beta testing just completed, Acclaim opens a new PvE server and activates the Premium Subscription service as more players are invited to experience The Chronicles of Spellborn in Open Beta.

For the Spellborn Open Beta, a new PvE (Player vs Environment) server called “Dorzhan” will be opened.  Meanwhile, players who want to experience PvP (Player vs Player) action can join the “Deiquonril” server.  And with the transition from Closed to Open Beta, all player accounts will be wiped so everyone must start their characters again from scratch. 

In addition, Premium Subscription service will be enabled allowing players to experience the full game past the Free to Play zone restrictions.  Premium Subscriptions will be available for purchase from the Spellborn website, with a special limited-time introductory pricing offer on 30, 90, and 180 day subscriptions.

In all regions, Spellborn will be a “Freemium” game, with a Free to Play zone and a required premium subscription service in order to access the full game past the Free to Play zone.
