Meet the Team: Nicole Hamlett
While we're always excited when the Star Trek Online team release gameplay details, such as on the NX-91001, Cryptic has been great at keeping us up-to-date on the faces behind the game, as well.
In the newest Meet the Team interview, we're introduced to Nicole Hamlett, the senior online community relations representative. While the Q&A session doesn't really shed any light on the game itself, it does cover other topics, such as advice on how to break into the gaming industry.
Be diligent. Get involved in fansites, wikis and other media networks. Get yourself known within the industry and create outstanding work. GDC and AGDC are fantastic places to network with industry professionals. It’s worth the trip.

It's that time when you get to know members of the team. Up to the plate this round is your new Star Trek Online Community Lead, Nicole Hamlett. Find out what makes this team rookie tick.
Q: What do you do on Star Trek Online?
I am currently the Senior Online Community Relations Representative for the project. It’s really quite exciting.
Q: How long have you worked in gaming, and what did you do before Star Trek Online?
I’ve been in and around the industry for more than five years now. I started off working in fansites at Vault Network and then moved into industry relations where I interfaced with publishers and developers on behalf of media outlets.
While I absolutely loved that job, I couldn’t say no when I was tapped by the wonderful team at NetDevil to run their Jumpgate community. And again, while I loved THAT job, I absolutely couldn’t say no when I was offered an opportunity to lead the Star Trek Online community. This has got to be my most anticipated game of all time.
Q: Who is your favorite Star Trek character and why?
That is a really tough question. Generally speaking, all of the main characters are very intriguing. But, out of all of the characters, I like “Scotty” the most. I think that James Doohan played the character so well. He was the first MacGuyver, right? The man could take a single toothpick, a length of wire and a few burned out dilithium crystals and shove the Enterprise into warp 9, especially when she couldn’t take any more. Scotty had a generous spirit, was quite the ladies man in his own non Kirk-ish way, and in the most dire of situations, he kept his cool and pulled them out of danger. What is not to love there?
Q: What is an interesting fact about you that players would be surprised to know?
I make the best chocolate chip cookies in the Universe. Seriously, they’re delectable chewy goodness in a compact package.
Q: If you could choose to be an alien on Star Trek, which species would you want to be?
I would definitely be a Betazoid. There could probably be cooler aliens out there, but can they read your mind?
Q: Which is cooler: monkeys, robots, pirates, or ninjas?
Yarrrrrgh!
Q: What advice do you have for someone who wants to break into the gaming industry?
Be diligent. Get involved in fansites, wikis and other media networks. Get yourself known within the industry and create outstanding work. GDC and AGDC are fantastic places to network with industry professionals. It’s worth the trip.
Q: Is there anything you would like to add?
Live long and prosper!
