I'm sure you're talking about crabs. What happens is when they use Metallic Body, it's like a 100HP version of Stoneskin, and DDs eat through it before you can cast the spell. Explain that to your DDs.

By the way, I know some RDMs, myself not included, that consider anyone that even tries to Dispel Metallic Body a newbie RDM. Just thought I'd mention it so you'd know that most RDMs don't Dispel it and you shouldn't feel badly about not doing so.

I read the NM thing to indicate that you won't be able to use spells/abilities for what will likely be a very short period of time indeed
to eliminate the 'instant provoke' of bots. They will probably have adjusted it so it will make no practical difference to your average human player whether or not that player is using a skill or ability. That would mean that a warrior could use Provoke, a whm Flash and so on as soon as the monster appeared and they could react to it. The non-repeat, I take it is to avoid a bot immediately voking again after the first millisecond and still having a chance of gaining the mob.

If they have got it right, I imagine that we won't notice any real difference at all apart from the wonderful one that we won't find the same NM constantly being claimed by the same bot. Hell I might even have a chance for my Monster Signa!

Actually, if you try to claim it with an ability now before that set amount of time is up, I assume your ability becomes "used" and its recast timer starts counting down, but it will not claim the monster.

So this will stop botting fairly easily unless the botters can set their bot to time it those JAs just right. However, everyone has an equal chance of claiming NMs now.

Most likely darts will be the new method of claiming NMs, since theyre ranged weapons, not spells or job abilities, and have very low delay. I've watched bots and have studied ranged weapons long enough to know that you have to remain still for a second or two before using a ranged attack or else you get the "You move and interrupt your aim" message. Bots dont seem to like waiting (they're designed to be faster than a human could possibly go) so I think they'll be seeing that message a whole lot unless the NM spawns right next to them and they dont have to move at all.

Wow! I was hoping for an NPC fix, but the claim thing was really unexpected. A good idea too! Claiming with good ol' weapons... and this is coming from a mage no less! This will make HNM claims particularily interesting, I can picture it now... two full HNMLS's pulling out their daggers and XBow's to claim King Behemoth... lol ^^ And this will also help with claimstealing if a mob turns yellow for half a second, no steal in the middle of a fight. ^^ {fun}

so yea, they can use abilities all they want to claim, just gotta wait a few seconds. This is meant to stop voke spammers like say "/ja "Provoke" monster name" from claiming before the mob has actually poped... it does nothing to stop ppl from voking it mid fight if you lose claim

One of the stipulations of that new claiming system sounds like you won't necessarily be unable to use spells or abilities, but it'll just take a bit longer. If that's true, it could mean something like no provoke or dia/poison for the rest of the fight, which I believe really wouldn't make that much of a difference.

"Th1s 1s gr3at!!!111 n0 more b0tters!!11 roflcopter!!"

I was thinking... this might possibly make things a lot worse... Consider, programs can be made to claim at the precise millisecond that it is possible, while we're stuck trying to count in our heads when we can start trying to claim. A few tweaks on their programs and we wont be able to do much against them. We don't have that kind of precision.

Well, you are assuming the delay is static. Simply randomize the delay... even by milliseconds, and you can throw off the bots. If the delay is random, the bots won't know then the proper time to {whatever} is.

I'm going to have faith that SE has thought of this, and prepared for it. Otherwise, it is no better than if they appeared already claimed.

This is good. No more spamming voke and what not and as soon as the NM spawns notice that i has been claimed. Botters will still try and adjust by adding a time delay but this more or less gives every1 a playing field.

20 ppl around an NM all in <a> mode waiting to see whos attk will land first. I can see it now all 20 ppl with a weapon that has the least attk delay. Daggers, h2h combat.

The other part on the HNM gaining strenght will make it hard for bst to solo some of the toughest HNM since pets will last a lot less and it grows in strenght.

Im also loving the whole

I dont see how the powering up certain HNM's is going to make a difference most of them are claimed as soon as they appear (Especially KA, Serket, and some others) Its the main reason why people get ToD's.

With camping now. Ranged Attack will most likely be the way to go. (Boomberangs).

I have a slight feeling that in the near future, Loxley bow will be somewhat heavilly camped, all depending on just how ling the wait is, of course. 120 delay on a ranged attack, i know from experience this thing is nearly as fast as using a /ja to claim. I often use it instead of abilities because it has a much farther range.

Ahh my mistake sorry.

Yes. Some LS's do hold the claim for a long time until they can get into the time zone they want it in.

I personally think Square should of just changed the spawn times on the mobs so it could pop in either time period (NA or JPN)

The idea of them growing in strength since being claimed is to make it harder for people to drag the ToD back into their own timezone to make it more convenient for them next spawn.

I've had no experience with this, but I think i've heard about HNM LS's holding HNMs such as the land kings to bring it back into their time zone.

What will get the claim for certain: /a.

What will NOT get the claim for certain: Provoke, Dia, Poison, etc.

What we're not sure about right now: /ra, WS. The question is whether or not these are considered 'abilities.' I have a feeling they're not.

So what this will force you to do is /a the target. The biggest benefactors of this will be THF with {Flee}.

Another question is whether or not spells and abilities will still do what they do on the mobs. I think they will; they just won't turn the mob purple/red.

In all, this is update is an excellent attack on botters, NM stealing, and it will help reduce the drama in HNM's. If you're not involved in one of those things situations and it affects you negatively, adapt and get over it.

This wont effect, ranged attacks, or engauging the monster, so THF's can flee to mob to engauge, or people using fast crossbows, pebbles, etc. will still have the best chance of claiming a mob

My thoughts on this one so far are as follows:

wait time on NM claiming: Like somebody said earlier its more than likely to cut down on packet sniffers that instant claim when the NM's name pops up and not the whole mob. So if you see the mob and not just the name it should be safe to claim it then.

HNM's getting stronger as time goes on: Do they mean as you're fighting the NM it gets stronger or if by some rare chane stays unclaimed for say five minutes, it's going to crush you like a tiny tiny ant? Either way, should make it intresting to camp HNM's.
NM claim
# Aug 01 2005 at 1:30 PM Rating: Default
hey you guys forgot something about the NM claims.
If you engage and attack, then you'll get the claim .
You can still engage as soon as it pops. So if there are ppl still spamming voke, theyll never get claim
No more nm's spawning purple!!! ^^
# Aug 01 2005 at 1:29 PM Rating: Decent
W00t^^

They got it right!!
No more bots holding the spook all day!!
That said I either go as rdm/war or rdm/blm so i would be trying for the claim with either provoke (which is obviously never going to beat a bot) or poison (which will also never beat a bot><)
So basically, we'll never see an nm spawning purple again^^

I'm happy to race to the mob, and take my chances, but when your chances are 0 this sucks!!!!

I am extremely intrested in this blockaid option now. As some said. It will be alot harder to steal NMs etc now! I love it. Go SE!

Although I am skeptical about this no spell or abilities to claim a monster thing.... Is it going to be down to the old attack and engage to get it?
I'm curious to see...

I wanna know how long this wait is gonna be, and if the wait time will be random... I mean could you imagine camping VE and theres like a 20second delay on the pop... that would give time for like 3 or more people to surround the NM before there's even a chance of claiming it. They make it sound like if you try too early you've lost your chance of claiming it entirely... This seriously sounds like an attack on botters to me. It's gonna take thought to claiming an NM now and thats something botters are gonna have a hard time programming. But who knows, SE has done some pretty wild things to this game to keep it interesting; you never really know what the hell they're up to.

I think this will affect botters more than anyone else (all depends on the set time). If someone is using a packet sniffer than their attack (usually provoke) is almost instantaneous with the spawn. If they added say at 2 millisecond delay then the botting programs are really messed up (until they are reprogrammed) but the person using their own reflexes will probably be unaltered.

Gil seller heck. It blocks whm's from ever being able to claim a NM. It also blocks us from ever competing with anyone else in farming. If they wanted to block gil sellers let them attach that time limit to arrows from rangers. Gil sellers use rangers more than anything else dont they?

RE: gil sellers heck
# Aug 01 2005 at 2:38 PM Rating: Decent
As a ranger I use Shadowbind to get a claim, not a ranged attack. Ranged attacks take way too long. I wonder what to use after this update. I will have to see to find out.
Still for any mobs I need to run to like when farming elementals, there shouldn't be much of a change

Using Ranger to camp an NM is not a good job, as the delay on arrows is slow campared to Provoke, Chi Blast, and any other JA that can be used to claim an NM (all JAs have an instant cast time). Even the fastest bow cannot match to a player/gilseller spamming Provoke.

The cost of arrows also wouldn't be worth it.

The blockaid would be applied to NM stealing; Aquarious for example can be easily stolen if you cast Cure on the party, and have Aqua run after you and thus losing hate from the original claimers. Or Nidhog in which Cure is used to mpk other players.
