I can't wait for E3 to check out EQII.

There are also a lot of other things I'd like to see, but a private demo would be nice.

After all, I have a website that promotes their game!

shut your hole clown. ppl have a right to be pissed off. eq is one of the most bug ridden, and unstable games i have ever played. and teh fact that its been over three years an many problems still not fixed borders on negligence of vi staff. guides an gm's do almost nothing for players anymore. it seems like the good ppl at vi are only tryin to come up with the next hit release.

fyi the pc game industry is a multi billion a year market, bigger than hollywood. that is a lot of cash, yet gaming companies still operate on a very small buget, the least of which goes to r&d.

one good example of how bloody cheap vi is, they dont even have an 800 number for tech support. there are companies with an annual buget of 100k, and still have an 800 number, but multi million $ verant is too cheap.

Id wager most of their money goes to executive salary, then advertising (someboday has to pay all the mags an websites to say how good the new game is gonna be), and finally some coin to r&d. I say trim some of the fat and make a better product.

    and listen to yourself souja:
gm's should have to lick my shoe evrytime i go ld and continue to pay them for it. as for raisin the monthly fee, im all for it--if in return they made a game that worked. as is it doesnt work, and there is a place for ppl like you its called legends, and its full of lamers who will lick verants *** and still call it ice cream.

i haven't seen very many companies with a toll-free tech support number. you're either calling them long distance, or you're being charged through their toll line.

and if the game doesn't work, how are so many people playing it?

    Amen.

People do have a right to voice their opinions, but as usual, the Everwhine community divides itself into two factions: those who are upset over something (pretty much anything it seems) and those people who are so offended that anyone can be upset that they swear and yell and have a coronary over it. Not too mention all the STUPID dude speak that's thrown around.

Oh gosh, I just posted my opinion on something, here comes the anger... wait, I'll post your anger for you...

whine, whine, %^&$, moan, whine, $#@%, cry...

Wait, I'm whining about whiners who whine about whiners. ACK! Oh, the humanity!

These are just posts, no one is calling your mother ugly. I think Souffle or Ouija, or Sonya, or whatever she calls herself got so upset I'm sure she blew a blood vessel in her head. Switch to decaf, its ok.

But, if you guys wouldn't yell at each other over something silly as this game is turning out to be... I wouldn't have any fun laughing at it all.

Long live Everwhine! Keep the anger alive! I wouldn't want to come here and find useful information on the game anyway. /sigh

ie "its tradition of consistently providing new and exciting content" and better yet :"It’s no secret that we have seen phenomenal success with EverQuest".

I would really like to know who writes this self serving crap. my verant what a forked tongue you have. i love the way they avoid all of the problems that were never fixed in e1.

and all this hoopla about a brand new 3d engine. the models look the same as luclin. will this new engine also lag when too many ppl cast spells? for feck sakes ww an dl in kunark still lag horribly, an many ppl have to face the wall in teh bazar becasue lag is so bad there. great use of the new character models, when you cant even watch them because things will lag too much. (an this is w a p3 640 m ram 7200rpm drive etc)

ANd no character transfer? after playin your char for years? well there is one very easy way to make verant change that policy. dont buy the new game. sure they may talk crap about the new engine not bein compatible, or some other crap, but they will fold faster than a cheap lawn chair when no money is coming in. for all of you ppl who dont like waht verant is doing jsut remember you are holding the leash, an it starts in your wallet

are you sure ww and dl lag horribly? my ping times are almost always fine in those zones as well as in luclin, the problem more people seem to have are low frame rates, which is usually a problem with the end user's machine not verant's systems (granted the 3d engine they use isnt the fastest one out there)and can usually be improved by adding more/faster memory or a better video card.

Lol, well I dont share the way my friend expressed her feelings, we are at work and its very stressful. Atleast for her.

Although I do agree with her on the fact that this game is meant for everyone to enjoy, but what I see out here on boards are people picking the game apart. I mean, why cant we just play the game, have fun go to raids, get killed, get a rez, go back for some more *** whoopin.

I think what Souja meant was that, lets just play the game and enjoy it. Yes everyone knows that there are bugs in the game. But what fun is a game if you just sit there and pick at its flaws?

Have you people ever tried to make a server that supports 3000+ people on it at once? Nevermind that, how many servers are there in the game? Imagine trying to satisfy every one of those people at once. (Cant) So lets just play for fun.

If everyone had thier way, I would be the Champion of the Test of Tactics tournaments. hehe

Anyways, its Friday lets play EQ!
Have fun and play hard everyone.

Im sick and tired of hearing you Gimps ******** and complaining about what VI is trying to do.

Before most you a$$holes came online this game was much fun, sure it had some glitches and bugs but that is always expected in this world. This game was much better before you people started playing, beggin in the Auction zones for coppers and silvers and scraps, and you have the gul to deface a corporation thats making millions by your money.

How fcking lame are you people? You come here to ***** and complain about VI and its improvements in EQ, yet when you die of a bug your ***** a$$es are petitioning to GMs for help And when you dont get your way, you cry about it and say things to your guilds about your sobbing sad a$$ of a story about how a GM or Guide wouldnt help you.

I hate you cry babies, sure you are paying 13 dollars for that a month now, but so the fck what? Everyone is paying that much as well.

Plus if they charged more a month, that would atleast get some of you lazy fcks off your damn chairs and get a damn hobby or a JOB! Get a life people, stop ********* if you dont like it QUIT!

Ya know what people don't complain about things that don't work they got for free. I'm sure it was easy for you to tell people that they are lame cause they complain about paying $13 a month when your mommy and daddy are paying for. Once you get into the real world and find out you have to work a couple hours to make that money and then come home and think "oh heck it's a Monday my friends are with thier families maybe I'll play EQ since I'm paying for it." Then you sign on and get a server coming down in 15mins emergency patch, and this happens every night for a month and at least once a week for another month, well the intelligent people would be mad about this cause they have bought the game, paid the monthly subscription fee already, and now they can't even utilize it. Ya we're a bunch of cry babies or maybe you haven't been out from under mommy and daddy's roof yet to work for a living

you're ******** about $13 dollars a month? i work for a living, and $13 is nothing for all the hours you get to be on EQ. it's less than the cost of seeing two movies every month.

Yea, by the time I pay for my movie ticket, the GF's ticket, pop and popcorn. That is like 3-4 months of everquest! People used to pay WAY more than this just for internet access.

Guess it might be harder to justify if you are spending the money you make on your paper route. Guess there is a reason that the average age on EQ isn't 14 (Thank GOD!!)

    New engine?
    # May 03 2002 at 4:17 PM Rating: Default
"Why you ask? becuase the game engine for EQ couldn't support many things that veriant hold originally intended EQ to do. And addons can't solve this problem becuase they would still use EQ's original engine as a base. The only way to slove this problem is to make an entirely new game engine and so they had to make and entirely new game."

Oh really? I could have swarn that Luclin had an all new game engine. Did they have to make an entirely new game?
    Nothing really new...
    # May 03 2002 at 2:31 PM Rating: Good
"brand new 3D engine / intuitive gameplay / New class structure / character customization capabilities /" andsoon. Everything what they praise could have been on the Luclin Box - or on the original EQ1 box - or on the first announcment of the Ultima online release.
Nothing substantial, and when you check interviews for DETAILS you get NOTHING. I bet they have not even started development yet, just the graphic design team seems to be busy. Winter 2003 - well Winter 2001 was promised for Luclin, and it still will take "a few months" till they bring out the promised new frontend and the bazaar - not to mention the numerous bugs that still are not fixed and the obviously completely dumped additional luclin tradeskills.

So i bet what really awaits us is:

Less new development and bug fixing for EQ1, because they will direct most of the EQ1 team towards EQ2, drawing cash from EQ1 but not investing any more. Of course, they promise different - but we all know what to expect from VI promises (just scan the manual that came with luclin and compare to what you actually got).

Lots and lots of fancy graphic "preview" pictures. Remember, there were similar pictures as preview for Luclin, with real grass showing around the characters instead of a green texture, and better looking character models who should be able to show actual facial expressions like smile, laugh, etc. You will get NOTHING of this in the finished game, like they did not even implement 10% of what they promised in the Luclin expansion. All these "preview" pictures are just a scam, a kind of advertising, some artists work but nothing taken out of an existing game environment.

A new game called EQ2 with substantial and severe total-crash bugs, outrageous hardware requirements, lousy and laggy performance even on the fastest and hottest high-end hardware, and a lot of promises that they will continue to develop what they promised to deliver. NOT 2003 of course, I expect it for late 2004 or even summer 2005. Of course, no new ideas or a really breath-taking stunning game, just the usual stuff with a few of the most blatant development mistakes of EQ1 fixed. And of course, with a whole set of new development mistakes... (why should they actually listen to the players, THEY are the gods - or at least feel like that even in utmost incompetence).

The first stable and usable version released with a "brand new" add-on (costing extra $$$) with "exciting new features like a brand new 3D engine / intuitive gameplay / New classes / character customization capabilities /" - well you know the drill. I expect that for 2006, roughly. Thats about the time when I will consider switching over to it, IF there are no better alternatives I am stuck with at that time. Of course, it needs a newly opened server, so you can start from scratch and dont have to mix with the thousands of cheaters and bug-exploiters from the first version, who have lots of items that of course no longer drop but make _them_ invincible and uber while you are not even able to solo a green con.

2006 - roughly. So a lot of time to come, and a lot of time to wait and nothing get too excited about. And if you whine "I have invested 3/4/5 years into EQ and now I have got nothing" - go and get a REAL life. Its only a game, and spending so much time in it and expecting you finally will GET something for it - ridiculous. I enjoy every minute I play (well most of them :) ), I really like the people I meet online (well most of them :) ), I wouldn't play if it is no fun, and I will never consider that time "lost". I do not think that the only way to play this game is to spend 24/7 boring power-camping hours just to get to 60 as fast as possible - thinking of that time as "lost" hours. I pity everyone who does.

...going to log into EQ1 and continue as usual, nothing has changed...

    Thoughts on EQ-II
    # May 03 2002 at 12:13 PM Rating: Default
    Hmm...

Well, I've read a lot of the chatter on the forum about the upcoming release of EQ-II, and I have to say, that I agree with a fair amount of it.

While the Luclin expansion significantly raised the bar as far as the 3D engine is concerned, it could have gone a lot higher. It seems that the new engine will actually incorportate a lot of the newer innovations in 3D technology - both from a video/graphics AND sound perspective. As far as I'm concerned, that's a step in the right direction. Since most of us have the hardware that's capable of running the cutting edge software...why not design to meet those specifications?

As far as the transfer/character issue goes, I feel that I need to defend a few people that have posted here. It would be nice to see a transfer, but hey - we know that its NOT going to happen, so we might as well stop bawling about it. I'm one of those folks that would like to see a transfer because I DON'T have the time to put into EverQuest like most of you other folks do. I'm a medical student in my second year...and those of you that know are aware of the fact that we have virtually NO time to ourselves. In short, it's taken me one hell of a long time to get a character to 25th level. And to those who would call me a "loser" for not starting a new character all the time...heh...real life comes first. I'd just like to finally get up into the higher levels for once, just to actually be able to get into some new zones. In that respect, places like the planes and Velious are still the "great undiscovered," and that's not such a bad thing. Perhaps it will be nice to see differences in EQ-2, where everyone's back on an even keel once again.

Regarding the cash issue: The increase is roughly about $3.00 per month, $36.00 a year, when you really sit down and think about it. That's not that much...the cost of eating out twice, going to a ball game, or buying another of those "flash-in-the-pan" computer games. EQ has proven itself with constant entertainment, and to be honest, I'm on EQ for the *PEOPLE* and the RP, when I can find it. I would have switched over to Firiona Vie, but I just don't have the time to start over. And yes, I'll have a larger cash issue than most, as I've got to get a new computer, as the little P3/500 isn't going to cut it, no matter how much memory I put into it.

Lastly, to all you folks that have been mindlessly flaming others, just think about the fact that they have different situations than yours, and that in this country, the 1st ammendment still guarantees a lot of things, whether you agree with them or not.

If we didn't have so much fun...we wouldn't be paying to play, eh?

I come from the whole RPG on NES, SNES generation where games actually had an ending so I see these games with out an ending AWSOME yet almost becoming pointless because as soon as a new and cool ones comes out you have to say bye bye to your level 60 char start from scratch. Not like that is a bad thing cuz I like seeing new and better RPG games come out as the computer world developes, but what I see through MANY other peoples posts is that they LOVE EQ, but they can't stand the fact that what they have been playing and enjoying for so long might flop because a new age "high-end computer only" game is coming out. That and Verant hasn't even fixed all the bugs in EQ and is now trying to make an EQ2?

My thoery: Give it about a year, everyone wil get sick of EQ and EQ2 and will most likely switch to WoW or Shadowbane. *shrug* than again EQ2 might be the best of them all and well, untill I have tried all three I won't make my decision.

Solution: Stop crying over it. just wait untill WoW, EQ2 and Shadowbane come out check them all out compair the to EQ1 and make your choice. Untill then just enjoy EQ "1", IT IS A GAME YOU KNOW, it is ment to be played for enjoyment not to be "worked" on.

Ok I have said my peace and all I can do is wait.

......I'll goto Star Wars G....and I'll just <transfer> my characters personallity there. EQ is getting old anyway. BB server is the toilet of EQ, over 3000+ people on server...constantly overcrowded zones like Seb, Kael,...heck the planes are no longer...tough..they've become...just like any other zone. People just zone into Hate, Fear etc now. No need to break the zone, people are always there. Oh well, maybe it's about time to say bye bye EQ anyway. And from what the post seems to say...welcome back to Ultima <someone has a house every few feet> Online. No way in Hell will I go back to that crap.

Did you people omplain about transferring your characters form Diablo 1 to diablo 2? no there were different classes. the same is going to be true with eq and eq2. Personnally i'll still go back and play eq even when i have eq2, it's all about the thrill and having fun. I've memorized the entire landscape of norrath and could lead you form one end to the other. i love the idea of buying a boat and playing columbus for a few weeks (sea air is great for the lungs). they are probally going to keep eq up and running for a while after eq2 is released, just to keep people like me still paying. norrath is a great spot to go and release stress, and hey watching the sunset over the ocean of tears its beatiful.

Well i wish all you people luck, and i'll see you in eq and eq2 sometime soon.

good god, read the friggin' announcement more closely, and stop basing your decisions on erroneous speculation.

you put a lot of work into your character and don't want to lose all that? fine, then keep playing EQ, 'cause it's not going anywhere.

those people complaing that they won't be able to transfer their characters don't seem to understand the difference between an expansion (like "Luclin" and "Planes of Power") and a whole new game (as EQ2 will be).

EQ and EQ2 and all other games are not about how many -did i read that correctly- "WORK" you put into them, its about the joy you get from them.

I am pretty confident that EQ2 will give me, just like EQ in the innitial stage great fun and excitement. If you wonder how, why, etc. look at my post on this topic entitled 'Why play EQ2?'.
    RE: character transfer
    # May 05 2002 at 1:32 AM Rating: Decent
I personally am looking forward to EQ2. This is a chance to play your characters' descendants! That is what the letter on the EQ2 site says. So, if you transferred your char,
#1 Your char would probably be incompatible with the new graphics
#2 You wouldn't get to use the new char creation features, including skin tone, face customization, and body customization
#3 Your char would probably be incompatible with the new char development that progresses over lvls if they are too high
#4 Where is the challenge in starting at lvl 50? Which brings us to the point that the levelling system is different. And, some of your armor might not be in the game at all.
#5 You would have to learn all the new systems ANYWAY, why not as a new char in a new world?
And, if you are sick of combat, settle down and open up a shop! I think most likely there will be residential zones and commercial zones to prevent overpopulation, in response to the guy talking about Ultima. So, at least give EQ2 a try.

    Why play EQ2 ?
    # May 03 2002 at 5:32 AM Rating: Excellent
I ve been playing EQ for a few years now and the further i progress the more i get the feeling i am not playing a RPG anymore.

As i started out, it was amazing, very funny to hear them stupid Ogres and watch them bonk around.
Only a small percentage of players still try to be different from others by putting some effort into the RP aspect of the game.

A RPG should be about different people, acting and talking in a different way. EQ misses that aspect in the High-end game. It's not about people anymore but about armies. You cant achieve or complete anything if you arent part of a large well-oiled army. Where's the lonely adventurer, who dislikes the crowd? Where is that sneaky rogue who steals from his closest friends?

Oh and mostly people are too nice when they play EQ. A Dwarf should be greedy and egocentric when RPGed, but no :"thank you a thousand times and here s 100pp for that stack of food, here take it and thanks again". C'mon this isnt RPG anymore. And when people arent friendly they start screaming NOOB in OOC, wow, nice roleplaying there dude.

Another thing i miss in EQ is talking to the NPC's. I know i can, but with hundreds of spoiler sites around i cant bring it up to not look at them. Everyone knows about most of the quests in game and that takes a little of the fun out in my oppinion.

I 'd like to start over again, try to Roleplay more myself, explore new worlds that havent been discovered by others a year ago, talking to NPCs and who knows maybe be the first adventurer to solve a quest. Thats why I will play EQ2 and i think lots of players will play it mainly for the RPG aspect and so they can play by themselves without having to wait for their guild armies to show up. Ok i think i m gonna stop writing, this post is already so long nobody 's ever gonna read it.

Oh one last question, Winter 2003 is that November-December 2003 or January-February 2003.

    I too must agree.

I tried to roleplay but most weren't into it so I fell out of it. As far as the quests, I tried to do them but the later one's seemed like you had to get the right phrase and not just a key word - which added to my frustration. I am not asking for it to be bracketed but if I say, for instance, "I will slay so and so" or "I will defeat so and so" it should be acceptable and I shouldn't have to break out the thesaurus.

Overall, I have enjoyed EQ and probably will play both versions for awhile and eventually move to EQII, retiring my original characters, (but plenty of screenshots first - memories and all that) as the older graphics start to look stale and the game itself starts to fade out. I can see it now - "Antonius Bayle will be merging with Tarew Marr and Xegony this week". After all these games only have a life expectancy of 5 years tops before they can't keep up with the market.

The role playing aspect of this type of gaming is a bit more difficult. I wanted to move to the role playing server, but figured in time it would degrade to the same style of game on the other servers so I never did.

This actually makes me miss my old D&D days. It offered something I dont think these games can ever achieve. The ever evolving story - uniquely created by the players themselves.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy this game but am tired of the drudgery of skill building and repeatedly camping and killing for hours for 1 item and that item will not make me much better but just help me to get the next item...Funny thing is I have had great fun and haven't ever gotten past 50. Hell, lately I log on and chat more than adventure.

I hope EQII has more to offer to keep me interested/addicted. If not, then there is still EQI, for awhile.

    Good post.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on the role-playing point. The way the current EQ system is arranged, roleplaying only serves to hinder the gameplay. For example, rather than sincerely roleplaying his character, that high-elf paladin will take that Dark-Elf Wizard into his group out of pure necessity for a nuke.

I really do hope that EQ2 will arrange the gameplay such that it will allow for a more enriching roleplaying environment.

Oh, and they expect to release EQ2 around October 2003. (Whether or not that actually happens is another matter entirely.)

I cant wait for this to come out. Even though i have invested time into eq1, i dont think of it as being wasted if i go to eq2. It is just an extension of my fun :)
Graphics look great. New system sounds fun too. I just cant wait!

I've put so much time into EQ1 that I won't start all over at square one. I've been playing EQ1 since June of 99 and that is just too much time vested to say goodbye for a start over. But what really angers me is that Verrant can't even fix the bugs of the first one, and they also are getting ready to release Planes of Power I thought.

The only other point I have is OMFG remember how long it took them to iron out MOST of the bugs from the launch of Kunark, and I swear it took twice that long for them to START to iron out the bugs of Luclin.

What a Joke now they raise prices and announce a new game

Ya I've started new chars, you missed the whole point I've vested tons of time on a game that Verrant still hasn't got to work right and they promised everything for this one that they want to do with the next version. What's sad is never finishing what you already started.

you people who ***** about bugs must think it's easy to fix everything and that VI isn't even trying.

until you've had to go through and try to debug a program used by a few hundred thousand people (remembering to anticipate every possible combination of actions by those few hundred thousand people) and to make sure that program works with so many combinations of hardware out there... until you've had to do that, you should keep your mouths shut.

if you find a bug, report it, and hope they're able to fix it quickly, but avoid doing whatever it is that causes the bug to happen.

i don't think the people at VI are sitting around doing nothing, but it's got to be extremely demoralizing and disheartening when people talk trash about the game because their ******* armor doesn't show up the color it's supposed to, or because they're too ******* stupid to realize that, if they crash while zoning into Freeport with their Uber-Item of Doom equipped, then they probably should try zoning in without the UIoD equipped.

people who continue to ***** about every bug they've ever encountered are just too stupid to find a work-around on their own.

I'm sick of people complaining about bugs in EQ. This Cujoy guy is ranting on and on about how horrible this game is with all the bugs; well then why do you keep playing it? If the bugs are so bad it should have gotten to stop playing because you get pissed off. Also you haven't named one specific bug at all. Come on, stop using this lame excuse about how horrbile VI is at doing their job. Could you do any better?

1.Took me enough money to update for SoL.
2.Can hardly afford it as it is.
3.Hahaha! After all the work we all put into EQ1, what makes them think we gonna play this one and start ALL over again. No thanks.
    4. How much are horses gonna cost this time!? 500k? 1000k!? Please, you already ***** us over as it is.
    5. GMs. This has NOTHING to do with this subject, I just dislike ALL GMs and Guides cause they suck.
6.They havint even finished this one properly!! I have found so many bugs in this one it aint funny, word of advice. Finish what you start before moving to Everquest 2. Perfect what you got, then make another.
    7. EQ2 is gonna flop. Plain and simple. To many people have bonded to EQ1. And I just might give it a shot if they have it on the PS2, but not over the computer. Sorry. The only chance at this game becoming popular, more than EQ1, is if it goes to the PS2, X-Box, or Gamecube. Sad, but True.

"EQ2 is gonna flop. Plain and simple. To many people have bonded to EQ1"

you obviously have no understanding of fads and marketing.

you never want to start a new character? your loss. makes you sound like one of those who's more interested in showing off his kewl l00t than anything.

I think this will be the death of EQ. I am a day one player, and have no interest in starting over. As players leave EQ1, the fun will go away there. Now I understand the new fee structure. If EQ2 effects the play enjoyment if EQ1, then one could claim fraud on Sonys' part. That is triple damages done in small claims court.

For those if us who are irritated by the indifference of Verant, this could be a sweet way to say goodbye.

Think about it this way... When EQ2 comes out, that many people will "leave" to play it leaving a relatively empty EQ1 world for the picking!
