As a new starting player (again) I am curious how well this will be for NEW and VETERAN players alike. I am glad I did not buy OOW since at level 24 the only thing is seems to be good for is earning 1pp hunting in a old world zone (IE the Unrest Beetle task for instance).

As playing a untwinked, unpower leveled cleric I have found you have no choice but to go to these hot zones. In fact now that PC is getting to be LB and Green I am finding it hard to even get a group. All your players seem to be 50 and up now adays making it rather hard to level up. Being a cleric I can't really solo that well, especially not being twinked. I can take a even or blue con mob, but it takes about all my mana up.

Anyways if this expansion does truely offer content for all levels (as in new zones not just added features) I would be interested. I don't understand what the incentive is to download it digitally for $30 when you buy get a boxed version for the same price and get free stuff and a pretty CD to look at. No matter how fast your connection is I imagine its faster to install the CD then download the files?

I like the Idea of alot of the tools they are looking to bring in. Yes their are still ALOT of bugs in the current system that should be fixed, and yes thier is a big problem with people "twinking". But, I knew all of these things years ago. I'm sure most of the people complaining new this to. I'm looking forward to the new expansion, and will deal with the new proplems that it creates like I do with any of the other ones in the past.

I agree that this looks good. I am really enjoying OOW now that I finally broke down and bought it 2 weeks ago, and this one looks like another step in the right direction. Sounds like EQ may be headed back in the right direction.

I am a necro by choice. i love to solo. dont cry because eq will not make the game more soloable, it is a socially interactive game has been since it was born and always will be.

now to my complaints lol

1 its to big now there are zones that noone has been in for years, there are characters in the 60s that cant tell you how to get to eastern wastes, thats just wrong.

2 they are trying to hard to make thier paying customers happy while not actually giving them what they want. It is getting to easy no one has to earn anything anymore (like we did in the old days) back when a newbie sow his first plat and whas very excited, when it took 3 to 4 weeks just to get to lvl 15 now peeps are lvl 50 in a good week of playing.

3 fix our backwards economy. we live strictly under a twink economy, to many high lvl players have to much plat and are willing to throw any amount at a good twink item with no recommended or required lvl, making all the good lowbie gear prices outrageous while you can huy required lvl items for a few hundred plat. its backwards

thats enough fuming for now have fun and stay safe

If you reverse your list, it all follows directly.

3. Twinking sucks and leads to people never camping stuff thier own level, hunting only in zones they know. This leads directly to insane leveling rates as people kill yellows and reds solo.

Recommended levels have not been evenly applied, and we need em badly. The problem is, a big chunk of the community screams every time they add a recommended level to an item that's clearly being used WAY outside its intended level range. Venomous Axe of the Velium Brood drops rarely in a level 50+ zone and people screamed because it didn't work well any more for thier level 20's.

On the other side, sometimes SOE appears to have no idea WHO the target audience is. What's up with the GoD whips?

2. I think a lot is lost by the dumbing down of EQ. People level fast without exploring anything.

Insane amounts of platinum or hanging out in hot zones should not be a substitute for taking the time to learn about your class and your world.

1. How do you propose to get folks to visit old zones?

There's several ways to do it, but the answer isn't fewer new zones, it's a REASON to visit the old zones. Like Epic 1.5 that hits every expansion in the game, and often sends people to out of the way zones.

How about going through each zone that's underutilized and upgrade a few items that are badly out-moded? Maybe they wouldn't have to mark LGuk as a hot-zone if level 40's wanted the loot. Consider the Short Sword of Ykesha which has started turning up on vendors. The average level 40 has a bazaar drop that's better. Since the proc doesn't work for anyone below 37, this classic, coveted weapon is junk. It deserves more respect. It should be upgraded along with a lot of other things to have value at the level where it drops.

Or better yet, add a few rare, but useful drops to all mobs in each under-used zone. That avoids spawn contention. But then new items have to be No Drop to stop farmers from flooding the bazaar.

I'd actually enjoy it if your experience from a zone diminished fairly rapidly with the time your character spent there. Then everyone's "hot zone" would be which ever one they'd never been to. There's more in the world than PoJ zone out, PoI zone in, Paludal Caverns and last month's hot zone.

There's a lot more they CAN do, but one thing they MUST do is keep releasing expansions. Sorry, but we need expansions to keep players coming in.

I totally disagree with you. I have a 65 shaman, a 63 cleric, and a 60 mage that I have worked on over the last few years. I twink my new toons because I worked hard and had to get everything the hard way on my old toons. Twinking from ebay pp sux however and is IMHO the worst way to play the game. I will say though that to each his/her own. If you dont like twinking dont do it, and if you dont like e-bay accounts, then dont use them, but the biggest thing about EQ is just have fun.

I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with. Smiley: confused

I'm not in favor of denying you, me or anyone else a way to take advantage of thier uber-level characters to help the young ones up. Of course we twink. I'm not wealthy enough to twink as rampantly as some, but I would if I could.

Every time SOE makes a common drop with uber stats that floods the bazaar, they twink a lot of people. They've even started power-leveling folks with bonus experience in so many contexts.

We twink to play a safer game, and sometimes to level faster. Right?

The trouble comes when folks get twinked or PL'd and end up 55 or 60 without getting to know the world or the class. There are level 60's who can't find Kerra Ridge without directions. (That's adjacent to a zone with two PoK books.) There are level 60 enchanters who have never used enduring breath. Those don't all come from Ebay.

The fun parts of the game I've enjoyed so much are now fly-over country. Smiley: disappointed Those levels and those zones taught me a lot and I enjoyed them a bunch. I don't know how to fix it, but I know twinking is part of the cause.

When I first started my beastlord out I did not twink him.I have since twinked him and have continued to add the best I can buy. And I have even actually won a few roles on items. Part of the issue IMHO is that if you do not twink your toon somewhere around level 10 or so you just run into a brick wall.

Even twinked you still do not have the uber gear or even good enough gear to go and do everything you can, would like or should do.

Another issue: in running around in Omens (not counting RS which I have now done once and I am very upset with SOE)you are in a group,xp/AA is flowing your doing great and boom you kill four/five or more named in a six or eight hour session. What do you have to show for it besied XP or AAs. Well best case is you died maybe once maybe not and since I have been playing in Omens for the last three months from level 65-70 you might have a few items from Omens in gear.

MOBs do not drop items that you can use. SOE has been lazy and the MOBs drop the same thing each and everytime. To much trouble to put in "if then or and statements" into the code I guess. Look if your a beastlord (I am) and all that drops is plate you do not have a chance for upgrading your amour. If you have all your spells but level 69 and 70 and all that drops is minor etc runes you will never get your spells.

There should be a fix for that.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 12 2005 at 10:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have played from 1-70 three separate times; a level 70 and 3 65's on one account, a 70 and 3 65+ on a 2nd, and a 70 and 2 65's on a 3rd, most with full PoTime flags, full elemental access, kod and qvic, from ye olde PoP raids and GoD trials.

Why buy EQ2
# Jan 12 2005 at 10:35 AM Rating: Decent
The main selling point to me on EQ2 was the fact you could own property in the game and improved graphics. Players and guilds would have their own houses and be able to customize them. With this expansion SOE is giving EQ1 basically the same deal and the graphics while not on EQ2 level are noticable better in OOM and GOD expansions. The new guild features should be awesome if they work and not buggy. The amount of downtime because of stupid stuff should greatly be reduced. I agree with some though it would be nice to see more solo content. The task system that was suppose to give us solo content is a joke. It kept giving my 56 lvl monk task to do in Veeshan Peak lol. Like I could last 2 minutes in there even if I was keyed.
I bought EQ2 and played for the trial month and I didn't think it was that great. While EQ is buggy and SOE doesn't do enough to fix it EQ2 had issues too. Even with the bugs I am impressed with EQ1. It probably has the largest program code of anything out there and it still works. I will continue with EQ1 and my 3 years and $100's of dollars worth of expansions either way SOE is happy because they get my money.

Guess that may be why I never had any interest in leaving EQ. I don't think a peice of property is going to change my enjoyment of the game. Guild Halls do offer some really cool features. Again, I'll use guild halls depending mainly on how bad the lag is. I'll cross 5 zones to avoid going through PoK.

Computer gaming magazine listed the top 20 selling computer games in its lastest issue. EQ II is not even on the list. SWG JTL which came out months before EQ II still is. I do not think EQ II is selling the way SOE expected and EQ should expect some long term beefits from the EQ II efforts including better coding in the long run.
Suspend = stop countdown
# Jan 12 2005 at 10:27 AM Rating: Decent
Neebat, I believe suspend means that it the timer will stop ticking down on the buff making it last longer. It's a benefit not a negative.

I'd enjoy it if you're right and you get the benefit of the buff without it wearing off. The troubling part is the potential abuse if spells are suspended and effective not just "longer" but "forever" so long as you stay in the hall.

KEI is the one I'm specificly thinking about because it's incredibly useful while sitting in a non-combat zone. Shaman buffs are also extremely useful for some tradeskills. The people who cast these buffs like people to have to come back for a new dose sooner or later.

So I see several possiblities:

1. Suspend makes the timer stop, but the effect goes on. This would be a boon to people skilling up on non-combat skills, but I think it would be considered unbalancing. It may be a loss for the people who make money casting KEI and other stat buffs.

2. No buffs apply while in the guild hall. All buffs are suspended, resuming the timer when you zone out. This avoids the unbalance issue, but reduces the benefit of the guild hall for developing non-combat skills.

3. Buff Suspend is switchable while you're in the guild hall. Those just chatting or preparing could put buffs on hold, while those doing tradeskills would leave thiers on.

I'd love to know what approach they're going to use. If they use option 3, I'd still want to ask if the individual buffs can be suspended, so I could come in with a bunch of buffs and use them selectively while in the guild hall. I might bake for a while, burning KEI, then switch it off and enable shaman buffs for fletching or smithing.

I really think most of these changes will have a positive effect, including buff suspend. :) I just hope they've thought through all the implications before it goes live.

I think you have very good points. However on my server you can hardly find an enchanter anymore to cast kei. You see poeple sitting in pok for along time shouting for it and most just give up and go hunting. So it won't be a loss to anyone on my server.
RE: Suspend = stop countdown

I agree with alot of what's being said. Just like you however, it's very hard to find anyone casting C3 or V for that matter. Maybe with the new options that are similar to EQ2, somw of the old EQ players will come back to thier Old Characters. We'll just have to wait and see.

I do not think the suspend=stop countdown in guild halls effect can truely be considered an exploit usable by tradeskillers. An exploit is something that gives you an unfair adavantage gaing exp or gear. I do not think the small bonus of not having to renew your KEI after 2 hrs of tradeskilling before more tradeskilling is really an exploit. All can do it in guild hall and it gives only a small advantage.

Where this is a great benefit is in guild raid buffing which when done in the guild hall will cause all to have maxed out timers on all buffs especially hard to maintain short lived ones like Feline Avatar. Thus at very start of raid everyone will have maximun buffage for maximum allowable time. But this benefit is only available to members of the same guild, if multi guild raiding you are limited to only the buffs guildmates can give you in the hall, or getting all added buffs at once from buffing grp at prep area and then zoning into your guild hall to wait for others to get buffed up before start of raid battle.

It may take longer to get buffage right, but no longer will you levitate wear off half way through battling Vox and when feared you end up in pit and can't rejoin battle ;)

I think you should calm the heck down and get out your English book again. Your grammar skill is about a solid 2.

As for the content of your rant.. what do you have against guilding so much? Joining a guild is a whole new rewarding experience. Have you tried it? If not, I suggest you try it before slamming it. You might actually enjoy it. Things you gain from joining a guild:
1) Meet new friends
2) Have little difficulty finding a group
3) Learn things from more experienced players
4) Teach things to less experienced players
5) Obtain equipment/spells/items you could never get on your own.
6) Learn how to raid
.... and soon to come...
7) New in-game benefits for your character!

I think most people that slam guilds are just afraid to try and join one. That's like buying a bat, ball and glove and going out to a field and hitting the ball around. It's fun for a little while, but you need something more.

Well IMO Sony is just trying to keep the game "new" and "exciting". Piffle It would be new and more exciting if they
1 fixed all the broken quests. My Pally at lvl 62 still cannot talk to the first guy on his OLD epic.
2 FIX THE LAG PROBLEM. Yes Sony the is a problem with lag. Start listening to players.
3 Hire GM's that actually PLAY THE GAME.
4 instead of adding expansions utilize the old ones. When is the last time you were not alone in Katta? Burning woods? etc
5 STOP NERFING STUFF. make up your minds
6 put in a real feed back system and HIRE SOMEONE TO READ IT. Then when you get enough feed back FIX IT.
7 the game is supposed to be fun and a break from reality. Seamless transitions, Good story line and exciting raid encounters. I am on a T-1 cable modem and get really frustrated with the slow zoning and lag. I pity the folks on a dial up.
well that's my input. I have tried the little feed back box in game and am STILL waiting an answer.

Chances are excellent that its your won system causing that lag, and not EQ. I run EQ on 4 year old computers, and lag is there but minimal ... lots of things to do to reduce the lag if you care to do that. Make sure your anti-virus isn't checking the .txt files (such as the log files) that grow to several megs and are resscanned completely each time they update. Clean the system of everything non-critical, ensure you have no virus's nor trojans on the system that suck up a ton of cpu time. Adjsut the in game settings such as clip plane and player clip plane, reduce the number of luclin models if your video card doesn't have a lot of ram ...

Like I said, chances are the issues are at your end.

Hey Bubba I'm on dialup and have low to no lag. Maybe you should think more about your hardware and not connection. I am at 3.4 gigs on a duel processor AMD setup with 3gig of RAM. Also you might want to try a high end vidio card. Too many blames on SOE for lag when ppl have crap systems.

No offense, but that is an obscene amount of hardware to throw at a game. A game should run on an above average desktop system and not require a full blown enterprise server sized machine.

EQ runs great on my 2.4Mhz P4/400FSB with 768M RAM.

That's about $250 worth of hardware (including the mobo). Nothing obscene about that.

You can buy a system for $400 that will run EQ with no problems. If you have a 17" CRT monitor, you can get a 19" for $80-$200 after rebates, and that will last you a long time (going on 5 years for mine now). Video cards range from $100(good-more than enough to play EQ), $200(great card.. turn on all the bells & whistles), $300(overkill for EQ).

So if you had nothing, for about $700 you would be set. If you had a decent (64M) video card and you are happy with your monitor, then you are only $400 from a more-than adequate system.

The MOST improtant thing is RAM. You *must* meet or break the 512M barrier. EQ burns between 400M-450M of RAM, and your operating system probably another 90M-120M or so. I recommend the 768M target, since most systems come with 256M, and all you need is to buy a 512M stick ($50-$80). Breaking the 512M barrier will decrease your load/zone time *drastically*.

Also runs perfectly fine on a Windows 98 machine with a 1.2ghz Duron, 384mb of ram, and a Voodoo3 graphics card that I had installed in the PC when I originally bought it over 5 years ago. Not the prettiest but the only real lag is when a new PC or NPC model comes up in the clip plane, and that's usually only a second. You don't need a screamer to play EQ.

I find it AMAZING that people(including SOE) think that Everyone can afford to spend $1000.00 a year upgrading thier computers to run everything beautifully.. I myself, with an ATI radeon 64Meg ddr video card and 768megs Ram, can only run EQ with horses/elementals and maybe 2 other luclin models on before i start getting noticable lag in many zones.. The weather and 'waving branches' in many of the newer zones also cause me lag. PoK?? LMAO lag heaven on a crowded day!!!! Even with the models off!!! I am lucky to be able to afford to Pay for internet and EQ, let alone have the funds to upgrade my computer. Have you people ever read the minimum requirments vs the recommended??(grabs magnifying glass)
This is whats written on the OoW box.

Minimum: Win98SE(or above), PII 400, 256megs ram, Radeon 7500(geforce1), DirX compatible sound card, 28.8 modem, 4X cdrom, 500megs HD space, and DX9.0B..

Recommended:
Win98SE(or above), PIII(or better), 512megs RAM, GeForce 3/Radeon 8500(equivelent or better), DirX comp. sound card, 56k modem, 16x cdrom, 1.5Gigs HD space, DX9.0b

Keep in mind that every 6 months or so, the bar moves up with regard to hardware. The game may run choppy on your system now, but when you do decide to finally upgrade (btw your problem is probably your CPU) you will see a much richer in-game world. Until then you can just view the old-style world.

The lag in PoK is probably because of your system. Bring your clipping down and you should see it improve.

You can buy a refurb (Dell/HP/Gateway) system with XP, 2.8G P4, 80G drive, CD burner + DVD, 512M ram, and lots more for $400 easy. I've done it twice.. once about a year ago and the other time was about 6 months ago. If you keep the video card/computer/monitor upgrades separate, you will make the most of your money.

Soloing in the instanced zones?

Wait a minute...that's been suggested 8000 times. How about everyone can start a new character and pay $1 per level, that way for $70 you can have a lvl 70 toon? We're pretty much giving the new players the farm now anyway, why not do it and make some dough off it.

how long has it been since the last expansion? and they want to release another one?

Sony is killing EverQuest.
what world are we in now?

Well, we went from ruining our own lands to Space. Then we found a way to get to the God's realms and then managed to master inter-dimensional travel. Now we get to come back to our own ruined lands. Being an average lv66 Pally who can't tank in Wall of Slaughter and unfortunately couldn't be on the winning team of 5 MB raids, and, can't travel anywhere in GoD.. I'm not sure if I'm glad to be home or what. I have EQ 2 on my desk but haven't put it in because I figure I can power level a Shaman and 2 box. Maybe, check out some of the places I have never been like everywhere in Luclin except to UP where I grouped 3 times. Have alot of Velious to explore too. No lag there. :(

Someone who's lost in a world bigger then their budgeted time.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 11 2005 at 10:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) LOL SOE is getting desperate... they lsoign too many players to EQ2 so they gotta make EQ1 more like EQ2... and I see thsi seriously hurting the game... people never gonna leave their guild halls now not only is SOE making the "fanatical" players saty in their house all the time but now they having them saty inside in game all the time too... guild bank? 20k says that within a week there are people going "this person stole stuff from our guild bank and left the guild" shared bank for guild is a VERY bad idea... Guild hall summoning alters? well they have done it now they got rid of the need for anyone in a decent guild to ever have to go on a CR STOP MAKING THE MASSES LAZIER! and guild portals to wherever you can set them up? they just made PoK, Druids ans Wizards vitually useless other than for making uber cash so they can get it stolen from the guild bank... can see players coming back to EQ after long break going into an empty PoK and going "WTF where are all the people?" this is a very very bad idea for an expansion for the actual player I may check this out just to see the Age of War that EQ2 lore talks about and maybe see the guild halls since I reely don't care about the end of EQ I have basically quit EQ so it will be a good laugh for me to see what this does to the players and the game in general... I can see EQ losing more people... maybe they are trying to simulate what happened in the lore of EQ2 where everyone dies?

Actually, Guild Bank will be on a permission basis. Thus, the Guild Leader and Officers would be the only ones with access, and they're usually the ones that have to make the bank mule bots anyway. Saves them a character slot, as well as having to bug that bot-owner to camp a minute to get something out.

Other than that, you seem mildly bitter hehe. So what if they're adding new content that makes people lazy. It's bound to happen in competition against World of Warcraft. No offence to WoWers, I loved betaing the game, but love EQ more. They need to breathe life into EQ somehow, and they're starting with the basics: killing downtime, quicker-paced gameplay.

Hopefully soon, and not in bought expansions for a change, we'll have a WoW-ish Quest UI, with useful quest summaries for those of us who have 7 bags of quest stuff sitting in the bank at all times.

Anyway, I'm not fussed if they make folks lazy. It's when/if they integrate RL bucks into the game to buy things through themselves we'll know they're desperate. Though it would kill the market for account-farming companies. hehe

I am not in a guild but have friends that have been in several. Why is the mana-regen option being given to only guild members? My character lives in Norrath and has a lot of talents besides fighting. I would love a faster way to regen mana just before going somewhere to explore or fight but am not in a guild. I really dont need the constant guild chatter although it is nice to have an established group of "friends" to play with. BTW, none guild players have friends (some real), find groups, go on raids. A couple of my past /feedbacks could have helped players in general, like a post office to leave messages/packages (items) for named players who may not be online at the moment. Only you and the player could get to that POBox. Or a small description added to each entry on your "friends" list so you would know 3 months later who Lagimoria was and why you put them on your "friends" (or should be "acquaintances") list. I love EQ, am not interested in throwing away my investment (because it is MORE than just a game, you thought Chess took a long time?) and want to be on a level plane with all the other paying customers, guildy or not! Thanks. :)
Ugh

IMO, why can't Sony fix the bugs of the world already out there, I'd still love to see expansions, but come on, I can't even finish half the quests I start and my bank is overflowing with no-drop stuff in the hope "HOPE" that someone in the feedback center for the bug reports will actually read whats going on, then I will be more excited to buy the expansions.

Amazing... Incredible... Can this be real?

Let's have some fun with this, after all, the list of features is a mixture of things too GOOD to believe, things too LAME to believe and things just suspicious...

"Bandolier Equip" - YAY! Now maybe my ranger won't take 5 minutes just changing outfits to bake.

"Guild Portal" Cool! I'll pay a lot to avoid PoLag.. er.. PoK. Can Sony tie down the graphics guys tightly enough that guild halls are not lag pits?

"Suspend Buff Timers" - Ok, something isn't right here... do I get to keep my KEI while I tradeskill in the guild hall or does it "suspend"? I'd cry if I lose the effect of my KEI while I tradeskill in this safe, quiet, lag-free place. On the other hand, maybe my KEI will last forever because the timer is "suspended"? Maybe I shouldn't have said anything?

"Looking for members and looking for guild" may be a minor blessing. Is this Sony's attempt to make the best of the sparse server populations?

I'm still trying to figure out how to pick the right GROUP members from the LFG tool reliably, and there's a lot less commitment. Are we really going to pick the right guild or the right members by what they post in an LFG-type box?

Expect to see dozens of posts saying "We are the friendliest guild on the server, a great big family, and we plan to do X, Y, and Z" (Emphasis on the word "plan") How about an eBay style feedback system instead?

"Player Barter System" - They're going to let players act like traders. No, I mean really this time. Your trader can sell AND buy stuff. Now, if they would stop propping up the "simultaneous players" count by forcing us to stay online to sell, I'd be downright pleased.

They're warning us of the coming of "the ominous Frost Giant" If you think a Frost Giant is new, I've got just the thing for you, for only 50,000pp. Frost Giant Steaks! They're new! And omimously tasty!

Or maybe that's a sly way of hinting about the new TIME TRAVEL interface? Now THAT would be cool!

Let's see... Ice Giants in Everfrost, Frost Giants in Great Divide, not to mention all those chilly giants in Kael Drakkel. Would it be ok to call them Frigid Giants instead? If they're going to try to feed us the same cold meat again, they could label it "Tropical Spam!"

How about thinking of something new, like frogs that walk like people and cast spells? I call mine Kermit4291.

Don't get me wrong folks, I'm STAYING in EQ. I'm not one of the folks rushing to beat the "game", then complaining bitterly as they move on to the next one. I realized a long time back this isn't a game at all, EverQuest is a complete virtual world. I find plenty of fun things to do in thier world.

I cannot believe some of the crap I had to wade through to finally get to an excellent post (otherwise known as a post I agree with =)

Isn't it about the fun? And if you are not having fun... well I am too confused about why you would stay.
