The Future of ZAM Network

An update on the future of ZAM.

Hello Wowhead, TF2 Outpost, ZAM.com, DestinyDB and LolKing users! Today, we’d like to make an announcement regarding the future of ZAM Network, as many of you may have noticed some recent changes occurring with our staff.

In the next few months, ZAM is going to be setting up shop in the Los Angeles area to be closer to the companies that we care so passionately about. While not everyone on the ZAM team will be able to move to the new offices, the potential new and expanded focus made moving to a new headquarters a top priority. Being within driving distance from Blizzard, Activision, Riot, and many others will allow us to give you unprecedented new insight into your favorite games so we can continue to increase the quality and depth of our coverage. We also hope to expand our content as well, especially with the incredible access to video, art, and editorial talent within the LA region.

While we’re growing the ZAM team to include these new faces, you shouldn’t be worried about any loss of service with the current sites. Wowhead, LolKing, TF2 Outpost, DestinyDB and our other top-tier sites will continue to operate as normal and will only improve throughout the year.

Over the last 15 years, we’ve devoted all of our energy into making this network the best place to get information for the biggest online games. The next step in ZAM’s growth is coming, and we hope you’re excited.

It does not appear that ZAM is interested in maintaining the EQ information. No updates at all for a long period in May. No response to questions from EQ subscribers about ZAM's intentions of maintaing the service. And the last update:
Ragefire Founder's Chest Available Until EOD Today, came on the last day with NO notice that the chest was available on Lockjaw until the last few hours. The Ragefire offer had been avaible for some time via the Marketplace, but was being passed by word of mouth.

I think we can ALL read thru the lines, that there is politics involved and certain people are on the loosing end. In today's digital age, and most of all a gaming website, there is no need to go to work in a physical location. So those who are no longer supporting the website, were simply on the loosing side. Sad time for the customer!
Way to miss the heart of the site

This site was never about the content - it was about the people.

Good job still not getting it.

I fear the worst for this site. I hope I'm wrong.

Do you plan to answer about the future of the EQ site?

Several people have asked with no response and your message does not appear to mention everquest.allakhazam. It's been quite some time with no activity for a site that usually updates every weekday. When do you plan to reassure us that this site will continue?

Sorry if it feels like I am shooting the messenger but I can find no where else to ask this question. This Cody Byce guy seems to be some sort of mysterious, unreachable shadow. Wowhead seems to be receiving steady updates so I'm left to assume the EQ portion is being put out to pasture. In any case, I've turned off auto-subscription because I'm not going to subscribe to a site for gaming news, I can get that many other places.

Could you possibly throw a stapler at someone who IS "privvy to any specifics when it comes to individual sites" so we could get an answer to the future of everquest.allakhazam.com? And if this particular site is closing will refunds be possible?

I only want to know one thing--Are you going to maintain Zam Everquest as you have in the past? Honest, this is the only page I visit here because of the wealth of knowledge. Without it.....well that's it.
Poor form
# Jun 01 2015 at 11:00 PM Rating: Excellent
In my opinion, the loss of those that supported ZAM is a loss to the site. If the only reason to cut them was due to a move then that's entirely bad form.

If that is not the only reason it makes sense, but for situations with relocation in this age you could have easily used attrition as your method of relocation rather than layoffs.
Why LA?

Its laughable that someone thinks facetime or any other video chat application can come anywhere close to covering data at the source. Moving to LA makes all sorts of sense. Congrats on the move!

For any employee who owns a house, unless his local market is the exception, finding a buyer so one can move to follow an employer might be nearly impossible.
So, is Cyliena moving with the company?
She has become a good friend over these last several years.
(To be blunt, she has been far more helpful than say, my insurance agent.)

I personally will not be making the move. I'll still be around on Twitter and the official EQ2 forums. Once Fan Faires make a return you can count on my haunting those as well.

Cyliena, I shall miss you sorely on this website. You have always been on top of the latest events, and always a voice of calm and reason during stormy times.
I pray you will find new employment soon.
(Although I suppose they can't afford it, its a shame ZAM cannot give you a raise that would make it worth your while to move.)
Whatever the reason, ZAM is losing an extremely valuable employee in you.
They will be the lesser for it.

So many other decent admins have been already been dropped. Don't hold your breath on your favorite ones still being admins in the end. I don't even know the current ones, at all.

I sure hope not, since EQ is the only game that I play (or intend to ever play) and I just paid my yearly subscription to Allakhazam.

Why freaking LA? Why bother with driving distance in this era of Face Time, Skype, etc. My inner sarnak is baring her teeth at this decision. My freshly polished claws are twitching to 'scratch' someone.

They apparently don't understand computers and the Internet. A move is silly. Like travelling around the world for face to face conferences. Waste of time and money. Our money.

It's one of those BS comments from a company needing to downsize and afraid to let the people go. So they move their HQ and let people go because they aren't able to go with them, and when they get to LA, they will replace very few of them.

Yeah! LA is where dinosaurs go to die. There is no talent left in LA. Witness all the bereft stuff coming out of there. Very poorly conceived movie remakes of other movie remakes or TV shows.

I think many share this observation. When I saw them making a movie out of The Dukes of Hazzard, I knew Hollywood was truly out of ideas. I like comic book movies and animations (Megamind was good ), but when that is the only thing they have going for them, they're in trouble.
Producers out of New Zealand (Peter Jackson) and Indie film makers make better movies than Hollywood today.
L.A. has lost its magic.

Not to mention, in this day and age, there is no reason whatsoever to not allow admins to work remotely to update content on a huge information database, because that's exactly what this is.

No, they want to shift their focus to become a gaming site similar IGN and the like, where game data is secondary and not the primary focus like it is now.
