Graveyard Zone Added Today

April 7, 2004 The Graveyard zone, Shadowrest, is now live! We have introduced the new graveyard zone, Shadowrest, to the live servers. The zone will allow adventurers whose corpses have decayed, after 7 days, to retrieve it. They will merely have to greet the appropriate NPC in one of the following zones to activate their transport to Shadowrest; East Commonlands The Plane of Knowledge Toxxulia Forest Qeynos Hills The Feerrott Butcherblock Mountains The Field of Bone Shadeweavers Thicket Misty Thicket If you do not have an expired corpse, you will not be able to travel to Shadowrest. If you have multiple expired corpses, you will need to make multiple visits to the zone. We hope you enjoy this new addition to EverQuest!

Someone's gotta say it. This is another example to SOE getting lazy about customer service.

Until this zone appeared, GMs needed to take action to resolve complaints about players leaving corpses to rot. Their response was to either roll back the character to get the items or give you a new set of generic armor if they could not restore what you had.

I agree that this is a good thing to have in the game. Why did it take so long to happen? Because until recently SOE put at least a small effort into customer service. This allows them to justify putting an even smaller effort into customer service.

Consider the /rewind command they were planning to implement (remember the patch message?) and that they changed to an automatic rollback that causes you to jump back. That is another example of a change put into the game to reduce the amount of customer service needed. Before, if you got stuck, you either ported yourself out or a Guide/GM summoned you out. They probably won't see too many of those complaints anymore. Less of a need for customer service.

If you think that these things are going to help us in the long run, think again. This is just their way of rationalizing the reduction of GM staff so they can profit even more from this game. Think you can't find a GM these days, this is just one more reason for them to disappear even longer.

Enjoy the game. Hope and pray you don't ever need a GM.

GMs. Supposedly a rare breed. I can honestly say I have spoken to 12+ gms/guides within the last 6 months. Im talking responses in the same day (usually in an hour or two). Some were regarding PnP. Only a couple were any major technical problems I have had. I really have no complaints (except the logging out petition deleted issue).

This is on Lanys T'Vyl server.

Unfortunately, SOE is evidently down to 13 full-time GMs. They used to have one GM per server, plus one lead GM for every 6 or 7 servers or so.

First off, no, they are not removing in-game customer service. In fact, they're accepting almost anyone who applies to be a guide. They know well that if they removed it, alot of problems would go unsolved, and people would be forced to quit and what not... Causing them to lose money. And if anyone knows, SOE does NOT want to lose money.
Secondly, the reason there are no GM's or guides, is because, all the old ones, who played for so long, have either decided they wanted to actually play, retired, or moved on to new games. Think about all the new MMORPG's that have come out over the past year or two. SOE needs GM's and guides.
They're not applying these changes to the game so that they can remove in-game customer service, they're adding it to solve the problem before it starts. The /rewind command was initially applied to the test server, because people were getting stuck often, and there are no GM's or guides on that server to help. And people who played test server as their main server and some who only played it occasionally, sticking to the main servers sent feedback that it should be added to all servers, which it was.
SOE is only trying to keep people from ******** about all this nonsense... But you people are all going to be unhappy no matter what, and complain anyway.

Sad, actually. "In fact, they're accepting almost anyone who applies to be a guide." I used to be a guide, until I was released due to missing my minimum number of hours logging in for a couple weeks (despite me making up more than that in the following week, prior to my release.) I have experience and was liked by my 'co-workers', but they won't take me back - but they'll take someone with minimal EQ experience looking for a 'free' account.

I suppose I haven't tried applying recently, maybe they'll be desperate enough, finally. (Since I don't really play much anymore, I could keep my account for free by getting players unstuck from geometry six hours a week.)

A reduction of customer service? This in it self is an act of a service peps have wanted for a long time.Saying that adding something that will fix problems is a reduction of service is nuts.A good example would be what is you bought a computer that had a know problem with blowing the power supply.Would you want to have to keep calling there CS and have them replaceing all the time or would you want them to find the problem and fix it before you ever got the comp and never have to deal with there CS.My point is fixing something so that you do not have to deal with a CS is customer service at it finest.

My girlfriend was talking to a guide recently in game and the guide stated that they will be taking customer service out of the game. He did not give a timetable, just stated it will happen. Your right, consider the /rewind command, consider the graveyard zone, if this does not slap you in the face with obviousness, then I don't know what will. It seems blatantly apparent to me that they are removing customer service shortly. And before you get all defensive, no I am not bashing EQ, I personally don't care if they have gm/guide in game at all. In over 4 years of playing I have had to /petition 2 times, ever. In fact I am glad they are removing it, I have seen people misstype petitions, stuff like this. Joebob tells the group, ".petition my brother deleted my 63 druid, can I have free platinum to make up for it?" Honest to God there are people out there who do stuff like that. By taking customer service out of game you prevent idiots from doing stuff like that. Now, back to pertinent information. There will still be customer service. In the form of, you have to go to the website and e-mail your server gm, for legitimate problems. However the people who petition for stupid reasons will not take the time to do that, which saves gm's/guides time, which saves you and me money. Be thankful they are taking out in-game customer service, I am. Finally, I would just like to state that this was all relayed to me through a guide, not a gm, so it's no guarantee, but just wait and see what happens. Time will tell if what I say is true or not. Thanks for wasting 1 minute of your life reading this.

This new GY zone is great IMHO, I remember when by a pure act of n00bity I zoned into fear and got ************ then zoned in again to get my corpse... oops ************ again and if became a huge deal to get my corpse out. This may be a great way to prevent most questions from going to GMs, however, don't you think that all these things should only make the customer service better instead of worse? The GM's have to answer less to people wanted to be freed of the geometry due to /rewind, now the GM's won't have to worry about finding people's corpses. They have more time to answer questions of other natures.... This would be ideal if the GM's werent lazy as hell :/ In-game service is pretty much extinct now and has always been lousy to begin with. We've been petitioning the GM's for about 2 weeks to start our new guild which has been out for about a month for "name verification" or some such thing and we still have not recieved any response... pretty sad.

I don't believe what you said about the mistell in the group c'mon gimme a break dude. Secondly I doubt it's going to save us money and thirdly I doubt any of what you're saying is true about the "taking out in-game customer service completely." In any case I play on the Rathe and hardly ever see GM's any way so there pretty much IS no in-game cs as is.

Now all they need...
# Apr 07 2004 at 11:26 PM Rating: Decent
Now all they need is a command that you can type for force your corpse to goto the graveyard zone with exp loss of course because i dont think that would survive the nerf bat. would be very handy to not have to wait 7days.

The purpose is not to make getting your corpse easy. It is to allow the corpse to decay from Play areas as normal, so that the zones don't fill up with corpses. And still be available for you to so you don't loose your stuff.

So yes you can use it to get your body out of a 'difficult' recovery area but not for a week. This prevents people from just going to graveyard zone after death instead of going and getting corpse. Also makes sure that the corpse summoning spells remain useful.
Great Timing

Well, perhaps they responded to all my recent complaining about my corpse being stuck in Plane of Fear. Just yesterday, I managed to sneak in and loot my corpse; I was worried it would rot with all my gear. I log on today to find this new zone, LOL. If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.
how does it work though?

Under the old rules, I'd have lost everything. I did lose everything once, as a bard -- mostly Banded armor, but still :(

They should have introduced this zone when it started.

I think it would be a good idea to have a way to make your corpse(s) go to Shadowrest before the 7 days are up. Some places are horribly inconvienent to get back to and get your corpse looted. In some cases, I'll gladly take the xp loss in exchange for getting back my equipment safely.

Then:

* Don't die in "horribly inconvenient places"
* Hire a necro or shadow knight to corpse summon
* Go along with another raid/group to get your items
* Wait for the seven days, and get your things without fear of loss.

Seems completely reasonable to me.
thank you!
