New class confirmed on test

Tonight on test server, the UI files were updated. Included in the EQUI_CharacterCreate.xml file is a new class option at the character creation screen:

Titles perhaps? Edit, the character create on Test does strange things when you select Ogre, Troll, Vah Shir, Barbarian and Human - leading us to believe that those are the valid races for the new class

Looks like a monk with weapons to me. Now THAT is just horrible. Warriors do need to be upgraded, too. Or Shadowknight/Paladin need to get less aggro.

If they are putting in a new class, why would it be a Berserker? All through EQ as it is, races whose fighters are Berserkers (Fros Giants for example) are generally just warriors. What can a Berserker do that won't nullify some other Melee class?

Why Berserker? They could have picked a better name if it's not a direct melee class. Berserker sounds like a title Warriors should have gotten somewhere in their 50s. There are plenty of NPCs who already carry the title of "Berserker" and more often than not, they are Warriors.

*shrug* Just doesn't make much sense to me.

Bezerkers throughout history have proven over an over they are better than warriors, just look at the vikings...nonetheless they are still warriors. If sony wants to create this new class, then the bezerker should only really recieve the following...

1. wear all armor types except plated mails.
2. same weapon skills and uses as warriors.
3. their AC should should only elevate past a warrrior or other tanks when they become "Berzerked" , hence the reason for their name, and recieve a hasted bonus...and mobs should have atendacy to break from battles quicker to to being frightened by the sudden mindless rage.
4. the bezerk state should have a limited time and a fairly long delay to role play being win ded from rage.
5. the Bezerker class should have higher natural tolerance to fire and cold damage.
6. Bezerkers should in fact be fearless since their intelligence is low enough they dont reliaze the danger they are in.
7. Should have ability to fall into torpor to regain faster hp regen.
Despite all that, bezerkers would seem uber, but with proper tactics and planning could be overcome like anything else.

Not everyone thought that. I for one, actually paying attention to Lore, actually knew exactly what Veksar was. Veskar was an Iksar City that was cunstructed ofer the Lake of Ill Omen. originally built on what was the Bay of the Moon during the time of Emperor Atreb, it was called Viesar. The Lake of Ill Omen became a lake when land rose out of the southern passages, caused by a great earthquake. In roughly 1016 A.G., Viesar faced another series of Earthquakes. They sunk Viesar into the the Lake, slid half of the Danak Shipyards (now the Evil Outpost in OT) into the sea, and otherwise caused chaos, mayhem, and the breaking things.

I dont know, though I respect others for their opinions, I think a beserker would be a good addition. Provided that there were some adjustments made? Having read a few from others and also played as one on another server, I have found that even though they are good as tanks and similar to wars and so forth, they also have their weaknesess which make up for this being a good character to play!!

IE: A beserker with the bear ability and once that ability is used their stats drop, making them an easy target, hence, an even more interesting character.
To be able to use certain weapons but no bows.
To be able to use throwing daggers and/or axes.
To be able to dual wield.
Unable to wear steel, chain or other metal armour.
Only certain tradeskills to be implemented and /or another totally new tradeskill to be developed only by berserkers such as the abilty to build rams or ballistics.........now, this would cause an outrage.......lol even chariot builders...:)
These are my thoughts, and like others here, they may change again:)
I leave this to those who love to play??
Just a mere thought on a possibly good idea?:)

Just for the sake of clarity, I think you meant to say that you've played a berserker in another game... no one has played one on any EQ server, far as I can tell at least. Since no one else jumped on that detail quite yet, I thought I'd take a stab at it.

Berserker sounds nice. Why not make it for any warrior race; then at a set lvl, maybe 20, the choice is made to be mainstream tank or berserker at the players option.

One thing I have seen associated with Berserkers that I haven't seen mentioned here is that they often have a great throwing skill, and that is something that SOE has plenty of room to specialize upon. Perhaps specific weapons will allow Berserkers to have unlimited, or partially limited access to some kind of throwing device or weapons. In one game, I think it was Age of Empires, they throw axes for good damamge at short ranges. This may fit into the "evil ranger" line of theories. A ranged weapon specialist.

1)If like some guy said an evil ranger it is gonna put us lot out of business cos evil race + class is normally better don't know why but they are

2) If they an upgraded warrior theres no point in having a warrior

3)(good point) If they have a slightly better hp and attack but limeted armour and weapons available cool class

yeah... well everyone seems to be in an upheval.. so all i got to say , to help u guys out, that if you have played ANY other rold playing game with a "berserker" AKA, barbarian.. u would know, like myself.. that the would recive MORE HP than a warrior, but would be unable to wear more that chain, or the most recomended.. LEATHER armor.. making there ac low, but there ability to "shrug off some of the damage would make up for that... And, also, IF the class had a "rage" type ability it would be used like.. i want to say lay hands, or harm touch.. but we all know how much we would rather to be able to use it again a little sooner. The problems still remain, if anyone has some insight, id be glad to read it, and then through some truth back in your faces...

This is true, but then the hoopla was all about a Paly or SK that could tank as good as a War, and cast spells thus making the elites better. What then are warriors for? The idea is to allow each different class have it's own space at the top. Just as wizards are at the top of the nuke pile, warriors should be at the top of the tank pile.

Why should warriors be the top of the tanking class well lets see they have no back up abilties, their sole perpose is to get wacked and protect the smushy classes. With no spells like Pally or SKs have they have no back up uses in groups. Pallies are welcome for there great stun line and their paci/pulling combo is really nice in LDoN. SKs have some nasty little spells for damage and attack buffs add snares into that and you have a great multi purpose player in your group. Warriors they have the big HP and the big AC for damage midagation and the Taunt skill, well they did have it till more and more uber equipment came out and leveled out the hp ac ratings for plate classes. Plus spells generating greater and greater agro causing the loss of the taunting power Warriors once had. Basicly (and i know i will get flack for this) its Sonys fault for trying to please everyone, and in the process trashed the scales used make roles for classes. necros Rezing, shamy and druids getting %heals, and this whole warrior thing are just a few signs that the core roleplaying game that this was at one point are gone. I understand the need to make all classes enjoyable to play and on par with their peers but why does it have to come at the cost of ROLE in a ROLEPLAYING game? i could rant all night but no one wants to hear it so i wil shut my mouth and make the masses happy

Seems like everytime they make a worthwhile change something gets blown up.

I'm hoping that this supposed new class has a major disadvantage to warriors, because from what I hear they sound like warrior/monks to me... would defintitely be a super-overpowered melee class. I'll just have to trust SoE to balance the heck outtof 'em.

I envision a Berserker to be that of a Barbarian in medium to no armor,(or any Large Race) that can become battle frenzied once faced with overwelming odds in a fight.

Once the Berserker becomes Berserked, he may take an increadible amount of damage that would normally fell a giant and still be standing. After the battle is over the Berserker would become seriously drained of energy and may even die from his mortal wounds.

Berserkers are very strong and has an increased natural ac and are somewhat resistant to elemental magics such as fire and ice. They can weild 2handed weapons with only one hand. They can dual weild and double attack. They can not cast spells however and suffer a very large intelligence loss.

Personally I am very excited about Sony possibly adding this class into EQ but I would much rather see a new race like a Half-Orc or the Forgotten Realm inspired class, "Battle Ragers".

For those that don't know about, "Battle Ragers"...

Battle Ragers were originally dwarves that were extremely armored in rigid, razor sharpened edges and spikes all over their armor. They have no use for weapons and prefer to make the best of their armor by punching enemies with their spiked guantlets and slamming an enemy to the ground or press them against the wall and vigorously squirm around effectively tearing their prey to shreds from their rigid and razor sharpended armor.

Now that's a fun class if ya ask me =)

Battle Rager sounds cool and all..but if you think about it..thats just a monk wearing heavy armor. If this Berserker class does come out, I hope they steer clear of the "low hp little armor high dmg"....thats pretty much a [/Gold]monk[Black]there. Then if they have low hp but this whole berserk ability...what of rogues? Seems the only way SOE can do this is if they think it through and make sure the berserker doesn't simply overwrite any other classes. I would be happy to see a new class, however, to add some spice to the game...as long as it is balanced

The idea of the "Berserker" is not a new one. From mythology to comic books, there is a fairy common theme for the "Berserker", Rage, and it appears to be incorporated into one of their titles. So here is my guess as to what a "Berserker" will be in EQ.

As the class appears to be developing at the same time as the melee "Enhancements" I would guess that they are going to make this character a discipline skill based melee character. Probably leather/chain armor, I would imagine that they will be able to dual wield and double attack. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that they will have a couple abilities that will allow them to temporary self haste, and temporarily boost AC/HP based on endurance bar disciplines/styles. Afterwards, I would imagine that they will suffer a short term side effect similar to "Ressurection effects" where their AC, Endurance, and HP will be reduced for a few minutes. To train new skills they will probably need to Quest/Buy/Loot new tomes, just like the new melee system.

That is my guess purely based on my recollection of what a Berserker was in stories, and what they are doing with the game right now.

from what I have heard its a light armor'd class chain or leather, that has the abilty to duel wield 2-handed weapons.
