Lost Dungeons of Norrath NDA Lifted

Here's the post from the official site: "As of September 4th, the Non-Disclosure Agreement for the Lost Dungeons of Norrath Beta is no longer in effect, except that a beta participant's confidentiality obligation shall continue with respect to information concerning the beta program and all feedback and comments (whether from the participant, any other participant or from SOE employees)." So I'll open this thread up for the LDoN beta participants to give their impressions of the expansion and also answer any questions the rest may have. Please post away.

Anyone know the locations of the spells? also is it true that there are three types of traps so like a wiz can only open magic type traps??

The spells to detect trap, disable trap, and unlock chest all cost 25 adv points. They are not theme restriced so adv points from any theme will work.

As far as I know, you have to work yourself up to get the spells. Yes, that means going into dungeons without them for a while. Not the end of the world, but they are helpful when you do get them.

** Use Augmentations Wisely **

If I'm understanding the implications of the Patch Message Section titled "Use Augmentations Wisely" then an Augmentation Item of Type 1 can be applied to any slot of any Type. Also if the item being augmented has a slot of Type 5 then an Augmentation Item of Type 1, 2, 3, or 4 can be applied to that object. I'm I correct in saying this?
RE: Use Augmentation Wisely
# Sep 09 2003 at 12:28 PM Rating: Default
I believe the point of the message was this. You have Sword of Whoop Butt. The sword has 3 slots in it. Slot 1 is is X type and you have an augmentation of type X, so you use it and fill slot 1. Now slot 2 is type Y and slot 3 is type Z. You have an augmentation that will fit in any type slot, be it Y or Z, you also have an augmentation that is type Y only. If you use your any type augment first it will automatically take slot 2 of type Y. Now you are left with slot 3 of type Z but you only have a type Y augmentation and can't use it. They are warning you about using the any type augmentations in the correct order so as not to mess yourself up and wind up with an augmentation you can't use because your any type augmentation took the slot for another.

That's what I think it means anyway. Not sure I made that any clearer though, LOL.

Fine. But what I'm asking is the general question of how the augmentation system works. Can you apply augmentation items of type 1, 2, 3, or 4 to an augmentation slot of type 5?
RE: Use Augmentation Wisely
# Sep 10 2003 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
From my understanding the answer is no (please correct me if I'm wrong here, won't be the first time). Only Type 1 Augments go in Type 1 slots, Type 2 in Type 2 slots, etc. There are augments that can go in any Type slot, but I don't believe a Type 1, 2, 3, or 4 can fit in a Type 5 slot. I think this is going to be really confusing for alot of people with all the Inventory Slots, Item Slots, and Type Slots for Type Augmentations.

Every 4 year old seems to think they get shafted over the slightest thing. Its like they have to have a negative opinion otherwise they have no value. Thats why I am careful about what I believe; way too many emotional and uninformed opinions out there.

I mean lets face it, casters think they didn't get enough new spells. Druids think they won't be needed. Monks are ready to quit the game again. Warriors are quitting if the monks are. The rogues are ******* pissed at everyone else, since they now may be able to detect or disarm some traps. Bards got shafted because their skills are still behind rogues ...

Bunch of crap. LDoN is what it is, a set of new dungeons with new loot drops. No new classes, no new levels added, and they are trying to keep the game in balance while adding all the new slots and augments.

Go play the game, see if you like it. Lost of new things to see and learn and explore.

If you don't like something, post a constructive feedback to SOE.

It augments ;)

Seriously. Which one are you talking about? Augments themselves upgrade any piece of gear in the game (even pre-LDoN items). Each has a slot it fits into, although some can be put into any slot. Each augment drops in an LDoN dungeon or can be bought using LDoN points; and each augment has additional stats that you use to upgrade and customize your gear.

Well, the 'Servers are Congested'; give them a Sudaphed already.

I do get as far as the Account - Options screen, which I think is the coolest of the screens we've seen so far. Only the one for Kunark was as cool, but Firiona in bondage is just plain cool anyway.

Its 8am PDT now, 4 more hours at least. Plus, assume there will a be a few reboots today; all those things are normal on a major upgrade day.

Well, you will have to wait and see. During beta, I do believe all the augments made the item they went into no-drop. But, SOE did say that not all will work that way. Also, some augments can go into any slot type. So - there is a ton of new flexibility, and we just have to see what and how things work out over the next few days.

Heck, if the beta testers knew everything, it would be a very, very dull release!

Yes, warriors/monks will benefit from this expansion (gear wise, not group wise,) but everyone else will benefit more.
Warriors will fall behind Sks and Pals for groups. Why? LDoN is time critical, SKs and pallies can let the rest of the group do more dps faster.

Warriors and Monks have been continually left farther and farther behind in all expansions and

too bad =( monks and warriors are going to be pissed, but it makes total sense, and i can see why a wiz or a necro would be picked over a warrior or a monk, first off a necro can FD and has great DPS so there goes the monks advantage right there, ( and i know you said mobs are not FD pullable im just talking ) wizzys rarely have to tank and when they do they die so thats no good but the incredible amount of damage they get to play with at lvl 51+ is just great =) draught of fire is an excellent DPS spell,[END QUOTE]

Draught of fire is a wizzys first very mana efficient damage spell =) for half the mana of ice comet and half the cast time you can do just over half the damage and cast it twice before you can cast one ice comet =) i usually do around 800 damage with it and only 1300 with ice comet so.....anyway it really sucks that warriors and monks get the shaft yet again but honestly what more can you give a pure melee? you cant update spells cuz they dont have any and they kinda tried with all the diciplines....i suppose they could go with war/mnk clicky items hehe oh wait they did that too...(thinks a moment....did monks get kunark armor? or was that only plate classes? ive never played a monk past 25 so i dont know) anyway they have a hard time balancing classes but hey im sure all the great gear coming out of there will be fine and im also sure that warriors will be able to get groups too, its just that a pally or sk will take precedence....oh well, see ya this afternoon on LDoN =) happy adventuring

Do you have to purchase (with points) all the items you want to gain from LDoN or do the mobs drop any items on the way?

Well, we often do beta tests in our house (we seem to like abuse). But, for the LDoN testing, it was more fun than I have had on other beta's. That is because I ended up liking the expansion concepts more than I had expected.

The overall quality is there, inherent to the design of the expansion. It didn't feel like corners had been cut in the quality of the dungeons (they didn't seem like cheap knockoffs), and the new augment idea is very interesting if for no other reason than you can augment any piece of gear in the game, and have well over 20 of them added to your character.

This beta was better than I thought it would be, and that adds to my excitement about the product release.

What I am really, REALLY interested in knowing is what the response will be like in the next few days on this board.

Will people find they enjoy grouping more now with this sytem? How much of their play time are they putting into LDoN, compared to hunting existing zones (that may be a lot less popualted for a while as people explore LDoN). Do they feel the product was on track? Does it do the things sony and the beta testers said it did? Do people like the augments? Who will be the first one who has augments in every slot on their character? What does a character like that play like when taken back to old zones?

Lots of neat things to learn over the next few weeks. I am sure the EQ development team has a big list of questions of their own, as they learn to apply this sort of technology to the game.

My own feeling is the dev team did a terrific job of making this expansion a good one. They made many decisions that will be good for the game, and will make it fresh again (for a while anyway) for those hard core players.

I don't feel its reasonable to give an opinion on that, since I am not sure how close the beta environment was to production. They often increase exp and loot so that it emulates the natural growth of characters and populates the world with items in a condensed time frame.

How many times have you heard how good exp is in a beta test, only to find your exp in production is much less?

I think all people can tell you is that exp in beta was very good (too good in my opinion). How it is in production is an unknown.
RE: Experience

about an aa a dungeon on a normal 65. the xp wasn't that good for the difficulty (IE maybe an aa in 80 minutes average. given the tone of this beta (they are actually paying attn. to bugs and xp feedback etc) it is reasonable to assume that it will be something close to beta levels.

Possibly, yes. Probably, no. Its just not a hard thing to figure out for them. They know how many mobs, and what level of characters, and the time you have. They already know exactly how much you are capable of getting. And, we do know from previous experience with EQ dungeons that they have a global exp modifier, and they can adjust it (hello, pop zones?). So, I don't think they would spend a great deal of time on that tuning since they have fairly good control of it anyway, plus lots of previous experience with zones of those same levels. From that point of view there is nothing new to them at all.

Also, if you are in beta and have read the beta notes, you will know the answer whether the exp was set higher or not. Whether or not this is the case at the very end of testing I have no idea - but its not right to play up a portion of the game when you have been told otherwise.

That said - even if exp drops to half of what we got, its still fine as far as I am concerned. The reason is that there are so many bonuses inherent to the system, over and above experience. You also get loot that has more slots than normal drops in EQ. Plus the augments. Plus the ability to upgrade all gear in the game. Plus the award points for success of your mission, and the ability to purchase unique items with those points.

All those things together are what is important, and not just "How good is exp". Even if exp was identical (or a bit worse) than a similar dungeon in previous EQ, there are many good reasons to hunt LDoN.
RE: Experience
# Sep 09 2003 at 3:57 PM Rating: Good
They have tuned it considerably since beta started. The reason xp was set higher during parts of beta was simple. They had not yet figured out how to give xp from completing adventures.

Hopefully this should help with some of your questions. This is a compilation of posts, by me mostly, the adventurers stone augment stuff is by nytrous. most of these posts have fallen off the first page, and answer most of the questions that have come up recently. all the pics at freepichosting.com will be taken down very soon (6k views in 3 or 4 days, basically anytime now they will be down) the bottom post about spells is from Call to Glory's guild boards (posted by me)
raids time limits seem to be about 3 hours. adventure time limits are 90 mins. raids take 18-36 people, adventures take 4-6. awarded points on each successful adventure completion depending on level and difficulty level (normal/hard.) you can only get an adventure in a group with people within 7 levels of you. a normal level 30 adventure will provide 3 points, a normal 65 will provide 51 points, and a hard 65 will provide 76 points. you start seeing items at the adventure merchants when you have over 100 points in any one theme. Augments can be dropped **OR** bought at an adventure merchant. adventures have 90 min time limits, twice that for most raids.
after you go through some dialogue in your hometown (or RM/karana if you are kos at home) and some at any adventurers camp, you get an "adventurers stone" to augment your charm. Once you have it you can port around the camps simply by saying the name of another camp near a magus. can add stats when you get a lot of adventure points also. most pure casters recieve disarm/unlock spells for chests. Paladins (my main in beta) recieve a spell called Guidance, which is a 1100hp + 54ac buff (basically on par with aego.) Also get temperance and group temperance. Enchanters get single target VoQuellious and illusion frost bone among other things. New series of spells for several classes that add spellshield %'s, similiar to the items found in potime. Clerics get a melee guard spell -- similiar to spell shield, except takes off melee damage instead of spell damage. various other interesting spells.all items that I saw have aug slots, old world items only one. depending on the level item it is, it will have a different slot. nubi items have slot 1, while time items have slot 8 etc. augments are both dropped, and found on the adventure merchants.

Current mechanics of the Adventurer Stone charm augment:

Max stats: 10ac, 10 to all stats and sv's, 100hp/mana

10 successes in *one* theme = 5 bits of knowledge from the adventurer stone quest NPC = 1 boost to your augment

1 boost to your augment = 2hp/mana

every 10hp/mana = 1 ac, 1 to all stat/sv's

minimum successes required to max out aug = 500

as much as that sounds, it won't take that much time... perhaps a month or two if you're an above-average of a typical gamer (in between "typical" and "hardcore")

Currently I'm at around:
10 guk, 6 miragul, 14 mistmoore, 10 rujarkian, 10 takish`hiz wins... 8hp/mana on my charm aug (posted by nytrous)
(post by me on shammy spells) well.. to begin with you get a series of disarm/sense/unlock trap/chest spells. Lesser/normal/great versions of each.

http://lucy.fnord.net/spellhistory.html?id=4273&source=Test

they consume a component sold by the wayfarers, and if they ever get working correctly will be very nice. hopefully by release the traps will be level scaled (a trap on a chest in a 30 normal adventure did 500 damage a tick! http://lucy.fnord.net/spell.html?id=4114&source=Test )
you get a series of very nice curs based dots cuminating in the below linked Bane. They were changed to 5 ticks, and had the damage lowered slightly. Good change -- it lets them be extended via aas etc. more efficient but nukes, but faster than dots.
http://lucy.fnord.net/spell.html?id=4095&source=Test
They are adding in Remove Lesser Curse and Remove minor curse spells. http://lucy.fnord.net/spell.html?id=4056&source=Test
http://lucy.fnord.net/spell.html?id=4057&source=Test
You **WILL** need these spells in LDoN, EXP mobs, and especially traps curse. not to mention raids... Another important change, they are making RGC buyable with points earned from adventures. This means you can get a spell that drops off a contested mob (Rhag 1 in SSRA IIRC) by xping. To give an example of the significance of this... an MI cleric was recently offering 200kplat for it.
You are getting a new series of movement spells, spirit of the shrew. linking the group one below.. Its run speed is just about identical to run3, but very useful to lower level groups, or slackers who dont have run3 yet. IT CAN BE CAST INSIDE!
http://lucy.fnord.net/spell.html?id=4055&source=Test
paladins are getting a new, aego type spell. also getting temperance, and group temperance.
http://lucy.fnord.net/spell.html?id=4109&source=Test
this will allow you to self buff your hp higher than bot9+kazad can get you.
also -- these new spells will be purchasable at the adventure merchants. hard 65 adventures give 76 points, normal 65 give 51, normal 30 give 3... point cost has not been decided yet

You said that

Does this mean that you cannot browse the merchants beforehand to see how many points you will need to earn to buy a specific spell/aug/item? Do the merchants only show stuff that you already have enough points to purchase?

They originally only showed you things you had points for. But, that was changed so they now show you what cool things you could have, if only you had a few more points!

Once you get the points for that, they show you the next set.

Think of a jewelry merchant, with a mean streak, on steroids.

within the last few days, they have made it so you see close items too. also have done way more items -- and lowered the point total. can now get stuff from 1 pt.
