My favorite place in Norrath!
# Dec 20 2013 at 10:25 PM Rating: Decent
I have a favorite place, It may sound strange but it is the very center, by the water way, in Clan Runnyeye. When I first met my hubby in game, we preferred to chat in /say and being sort of noobs, we didn't master the /tell thing with lots of friends messaging us, so we'd mistell if we did it that way. So we had to find a place to go, where we could just sit and chat and maybe kill some mobs and gain some plat or stuff to sell. This was in 2003, so it wasn't as easy as it is now. But it still brings back fond memories of hiding away with /anon on so none of our friends would know which zone we were in together :) Now it seems like we never hide away, but we still raid together and group up, occasionally stopping by Runnyeye for the memories whenever we are near it for other things.

The second, would be the hidden room in the old Bazaar, but that is long gone now so we can't go there lol

Thanks for the chance to win this! Happy Holidays!
Oasis and Cazel!
# Dec 20 2013 at 10:20 PM Rating: Decent
The Oasis will always be one of my favorite places in Everquest, I met some friends there I am still friends with today. The groups, the Specter trains, Sand Giants and CAZEL! My favorite memory was of this druid kiting Sand Giants, trying to keep the zone free so us lower levels could group and not worry. The druid however spawned Cazel and had him chasing him. He takes him to the Sro zone, or tried to, he goes LD and runs straight into the ocean. Cazel keeps following him, we all run (of course!) and Cazel vanishes underwater. About 20 of us all run to the docks, figuring he will come back out near the first rock there in the water, NOPE! Cazel pulls a Godzilla and come up from behind us on the docks and wipes everyone!
Mistmoore!

-REDACTED-

Ok back a long time ago I loved Mistmoore in the original EQ. My favorite memories of the place are when a group at the castle would end up training the entire zone! You'd either have to make it out before the horde of mobs would wipe everyone or you could jam yourself in the corner by the little pond. If you found the right spot you could watch the devastation without becoming a casualty. On two separate occasions GM's had to come in to corpse drag bodies back to the zone line due to folks constantly training the zone trying to recover their stuff. It may have been a buggy zone but it sure was a challenge! Made a lot of good friends there on my little druid.
Killing dragons is fun.
# Dec 20 2013 at 9:51 PM Rating: Decent
Unfortunately I don't have any screenshots anymore, but North Temple of Veeshan in EverQuest was my favorite. Going there with the guild to kill dragons. It was quite terrifying and at the same time very alluring. I've never felt the same awe for a zone in any other MMO as I had with NToV.
Favorite Location in Everquest 1
# Dec 20 2013 at 9:51 PM Rating: Decent
My location would have to be the bridge to Felwithe in the original Everquest.

The reason is that my favorite character from the original Everquest was a Dark Elf Cleric named Inyx D'Ater who had a back story that put her at odds with the city.

Inyx pledged to invade the High Elf city of Felwithe and burn it to the ground. Guildies and friends of Inyx eventually urged her to take up arms and lead a raid into the city.

One weekend, Inyx and her small team arrived at the city prepared to burn it to the ground. The dark elves and their allies attacked and killed the guards to the dismay of a few young high elves.

Eventually, word of the attack made its way to a High Elf cleric named Felishanna who came to the aid of the city.

Felishanna and Inyx met on the bridge of Felwithe dueling to the death.

Although Inyx fell that day, the damage had been done.

A guild leader and his guards lay dead on the bridge showing the might of Neriak and Innoruuk could no longer be ignored by the High Elves...
Where is Master Tynkale?
# Dec 20 2013 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
So, I've got this letter and it says to find Master Tynkale. Turns out I walked right past his building. I'm wandering around the city looking for this guy, and I start getting flustered. I see a dwarf run by and I ask him if he knows where this Tynkale guy is. Turns out he's a paladin too! Takes me right to him. Not only that, he hands me a few things. The icons looked like plate mail, but the pants looked like woven leather. I was over the moon. I hadn't even killed something yet and I had Kevin Sorbo Hercules pants!

I thank this guy like crazy and he points me to where I can kill a wasp or two. So, I'm fighting this wasp like crazy. Pow, swoosh, stingers and swords everywhere. I almost have it handled when this green gorilla comes up to ruin my day. I bolt. I run like a wuss and this gorilla just clobbers me. I have no idea where I am or where I'm running, and this guy lays me to rest under some tree, somewhere. Never found my body. I still miss those bronze pants. Good times.
Butcherblock
# Dec 20 2013 at 9:20 PM Rating: Decent
I've always found butcherblock to be the area I'd first be excited about getting my lowbie char into. Crushbone tended to be a bit organized and butcherblock was just chaotic and varied enough that you could get yourself into trouble exploring while still having fun. If I also remember the drops for the goblin camps for awhile were quite nice as far as lowbie coins go.
Favorite...

For me I would have to say the Village of Shin in Everquest 2. Mostly because it is a nice peaceful area, and major crafting hub. I'll end up there for the oddest of reasons, sometimes to craft an item for a friend, others just to have a nice place to sit while chatting. Only Hua Mein Village would be close for me, but getting to the Village of Shin is so much easier then trying to hide out in Hau Mein Village.

If I wasn't so much of a crafter, I'm sure I would find other places just as nice. Though one thing would make the Village of Shin perfect... a Qho training dummy.....

As an orphan pollywog, I found Crescent Reach when I emerged from the water. The Drakken took me in and I began seeking my way amongst them. I remember fondly assisting many poor souls in the Blightfire Moors and Gorukar Mesa. The Steppes never really left an impression on me, but Icefall was amazing! Mammoths! There were those pesky goblins and orcs. Their pet Worgs were the worst, but I figured out how to avoid and ensnare them. I was intrigued when I found the passages to the east and terrorized by the denizens within. I thought my end had arrived early until I met a group of light hearted and benevolent druids deep in the glacier. They were very helpful. They even sent me home when we were done with the golems and dragons.
Three (maybe) favorite places
# Dec 20 2013 at 9:08 PM Rating: Decent
By Brell, it'll be hard to pick a single place, even having only really gotten into EverQuest II. I can't narrow it down to one, but I think I can slim the list down to three.

Queen's Colony is one of those zones. It wasn't anything special, but it was the first thing I set my eyes on in EQ2 on a long-gone High Elf Wizard.

Shimmering Citadel is definitely on the list. It's ingenious and the art is fantastic. I hadn't been there until I was leveling my third alt, and I can't believe it took me that long to go there.

And thirdly (but not by any means less awesome than the other two), Tenebrous Tangle holds a special place in my heart. When I started running through the Kingdom of Sky quests (long after KoS launched - I didn't start playing until just before the Sentinel's Fate launch), the lore piqued my interest, and that's when I started reading up on the history of Norrath, and eventually led to me starting RP in EQ2.

Speaking of Kingdom of Sky, a fourth place I love (sorry, I lied!) is the newly-available Vesspyr Isles in Ethernere. It reminds me in so many ways of the old KoS zones, both with the art and the content itself, and a modern and endgame reflection of my favorite parts of EQ2 is highly welcomed. Aeterna Gardens is absolutely breathtaking and I have, in fact, simply sat there and done nothing but look at it.

As a young Wood Elf I was chosen to represent our race as a Bard. While scouting the forest I stumbled onto an impending Orc invasion. The mangy curs had overrun a small hidden town, killing all of the innocent citizens. The town, now called Crushbone, had been fortified and was swarming with legions of Orc Soldiers. Along with my Paladin partner Ianthia and his wife Kamiel the Enchantess we would infiltrate the town and cut the vile Orcs down. After hours of fighting the hated tree killers we finally engaged Emperor Crush himself. Even though our bodies were exhausted we overcame the mighty Emperor and his guard. Many years later I still sing the story of his defeat. His and many others, thanks to companions like Ianthia and Kamiel.

My favorite zone from EQ would have to be Dragon Necropolis. Remote, random undead dragons spawning, spiders that teleport you and go invisible, beetle traps, killing vicious white mice. What's not to love?! Pile that on with being the only one left alive on our first Zlandicar kill probably takes the cake:) I just remember spending many, many hours there and not being bored a single one.

My most favorite place in Norrath is and has been Tower of Frozen Shadows. I still take alts there to level up and get keys to the top. I find the entire storyline and the npc's in there to be SO well done. I would love to see that zone revamped and made into a higher level zone all the time, not just during the anniversary celebration! I spent MANY long happy hours up on floor 5, disrupting the wedding ceremony and farming velium.

when I think favorite location my imagination takes me to the monumental statues and carvings depicted in many of the everquest zones. like the great dwarf carving above the entrance to kaladim or the gigantic iksar statues in firiona vie etc. but all things conssdered I cant help but remember the feeling of coming back home to kelethin as an up and coming wood elf after a long journey away from faydwer adventuring across antonica or odus. it really gave me a real feeling of nostalgia running the bridges between the treetops in the land I came up in and spent so many hours adventuring. even 12 years later I go home every now and again, and think back on all the good ol days.

crystal caverns was the most favorite place for me and my game partner who later became my wife. the music was awesome and the ice invironment was always easy on your eyes especially when doing those long grinds. getting a rezzing cleric to come all that way to rescue back some of that hrd won exp wasnt easy and certainly not cheap. but generally alot of fun and friendships were had and made in CC

In Everquest, I'll always have a soft spot for Lower Guk. My husband and I had a perma-group for that zone and spent many hours there camping the lord and that stupid hand. I bet I had 2,905 serpentine bracers, haha.

In Everquest 2, I like the old city zones from before the revamp. I love the Freeport slums and the Qeynos suburbs. I understand why they changed them and for the most part I agree with that decision. But I still think they added a lot of flavor to the game.

My favorite place was Kurn's Tower. Always leveled my toons there for the lols. You never knew when someone was gonna get feared by those badgers in the basement and pull all the skellys training to the zone. When I was helping to level a one of my friend's toons with my lvl 65 cleric, we grouped with a noob monk. Just to mess with him, i'd duel my friend and one shot his toon, rez, and repeat. The monk was yelling in at me in /shout scolding me for picking on them, not realizing that we were joking around.

Good times...

I would have to say the first EverQuest playing in Innothule Swamp was the most memorable time. Pulling all of the Frogloks together we could with a druid standing behind us making sure to regen and thorn us was so much fun. At one point we had caused our computers to slow down from so many creatures on the screen that we all died. I enjoyed the gloomy look of it all as well as the spooky sounds coming from everywhere.

For anyone who never played the original EQ the screen you stared at for hours look like this:

And just for fun a dead Froglok image for memory sake Smiley: smile

We all played on Test server even after beta just because it was fun to help the GMs test things. Hope everyone has a Great Christmas! Good luck to you all.

The thought of that old UI...I've almost dug out the original CD to pull some artwork from the tutorial (the old off-line one) and make that as my current UI. Just not sure I could live without 3 or more chatboxes, or only 6 hotkeys per bank.

But it really taught me to juggle songs as a bard. *Click, tap foot 1-2-3, *click to stop* *click to start next* I got so good at click juggling I could type while going it. Then the alt+# trick, and I had to stop typing. Then 10 hotkeys + college papers = carpel tunnel. Took them long enough to make /melody!

There is just something exciting about knowing at any moment you could run into a monster that could stomp you into the ground but still have the chance to loot something special that only comes once a year . To think with the right bunch of friends in a group or the right bunch of friends in a guild any thing is still possible . So go conquer your NIGHTMARES Fight off the DISEASE Stand strong agianst the STORM and show all your HONOR But remember to do as much as you can with the TIME you have . Happy hunting Netherworld FV

Nothing can compare to the East Commons tunnel. I discovered East Commons almost by accident sometime around level 12. I was a wizard back in those days, with no gear and no money. I remember trying to kite those snakes around near the tunnel and praying that my toon would live through the poison dot. I also remember seeing all that auction spam for the very first time! At the time I had no idea how many fond memories I'd make there in that tunnel. I met some of very best friends there.

Shards landing is a zone in which I see as one of my favorite zones. Why is this? Well for one it is a place where a druid can kite, a pet can tank, and almost anyone can enjoy it with the wide range in different creatures. There are tunnels and an underground city, a village, and yet there is a lake and rolling hills, steep cliffs, and yet it can be a home away from home with a banker, merchants, and augmentation dealers. You can also do tradeskills here and access multiple zones quickly and easily. Overall I believe it is a well thought out zone, and when I first zoned in it seemed quite large, though now as I see it, it really should have been much larger. Each of the areas in this zone, could itself be a small zone unto itself, and thus one zone could be many more (though it might lead to lag for some) it would have been interesting if it had been enlarged to afford multiple groups at each of the various spots listed in the "exploring shards landing task".
My favorite EQ/EQ2 zone.....
# Dec 20 2013 at 7:40 PM Rating: Decent
This was a tough one for me as in both games there are more than just one favorite zone. I'll start with Everquest. I didn't make it to a very high level in the original Everquest, so there are many zones I've never seen. I would have to say that I enjoyed the danger of Kithikor woods the most, I think I died the most in that place! I took quite a few chances there while trying to sneak into Rivervale. I was once sitting in the tunnel just next to the zone in to Rivervale and thought I was safe! I was dead wrong and died on the spot with a single blow from an unseen skelly. I was lost in the middle of some conversation with 2 other friends when it happened and we had quite the laugh about that and so many years later it's still a subject that we bring up to have a good laugh at my expense! In EQ2, my favorite zone would have to be Greater Faydark, I really love the music in that zone and the re-imagined Crushbone! I loved exploring Kelethin, the new home of the elves and spent lots of time there. The beauty and tranquility of the zone have always been soothing to me. I am looking forward to all that Everquest Landmark will bring and to creating lots more memories there!
