I havent been able to log in since the update. Everytime i click "Play" it tells me "FFXI error 3100" Cannot connect to lobby server. in which case i can't play. It wouldnt bother me so much if i could have played in the last like 10 days. This is a little repetative. And i have called POL, and they tell you the same thing. They don't give you and details on what the attacks are, or when they will possibly be fixed. What they should do, is bite the bullet, and shut down the servers for a month, refund everybody for April, and find out whats going on.

Just take a little time (it's not as if you don't have any right now) and hit up playonline.com instead of waiting for Alla to update with stuff like this.

It has come to our attention that recent technical difficulties with our PlayOnline server are due to a DDoS from anonymous third parties. We have determined that this activity was undertaken with malicious intent and specifically targeted our network. Our technicians are taking every measure possible to prevent further attacks. However, attack methods have varied, which has caused a more time-consuming review of our network protection.

This is just an excerpt from the post about the recent problems on the pol site. They're doing what they can, guys, let them do their job and bear with them. And as to all the people who are ******** about the downtime, it's not that bad. Up until now, we've had awesome uptime. The occasional downtime for updates and the like, but that's normal... It's only since these DDoS attacks that the problems have started.

It's not too hard to find, just go to the information link on the side of the page, brings up the same stuff as in the Information tab of POL. Mind giving me back my karma now? ;_;

So after downloading a patch for 12 hours on a 56k , cause i was on vacation, it wont let me play. I wish it wasnt raining. well good luck to you guys im about to take a nap. hope u get to log on soon

My largest problem isn't not being able to play (though 4 times in a week is a bit much), because I always have other stuff to do. It's the fact that if I can't log on, I can't check my plants and if I can't check my plants they die. I spent 190k on tree saplings and I really, really don't want to see all that cash go down the drain. ;_; I work nights and they always seem to be updating when I'm awake and not at work.

Go to Artifact>>>>>Black mage You will find the quests listed. I'm a 53RDM and they are a pain. I've had the boots quest but can't find the darn chest and after 4 attemps and almost dieing I'm going to wait until level 60.

Im sure SE can handle the upgrades quite well but on addidtion they are trying to combat gilsellers AND are recieving DDoS attacks, this is annoying the ???? out of me too but just sit it out and stop crying! maybe try getting a proper life and real friends to go out with like any normal person does in the mean-time. or you could try doing their job and then see how bad things get.

I seriously doubt they will be able to stop gilsellers, I just don't see that happening. If they want to stop it, they would have to take out gil all together.

Or maybe even change the limit of gil one can have at a certain level. *(Don't quote me on that, just a thought I had)*

i gotta agree with kailos it is not easy fixing bugs in games i also play neverwinter nights and i run my own game on it and man people get on my *** about everything.i still spending time on 3 bugs for the past month.anyway...

I'm sitting in a programming class, and let me tell you. It isn't easy to fix bug and problems,
I've been working on a simple program for about 2 weeks and still can't get it perform everything correctly. Cut SE some slack this stuff isn't easy.

I am an Internet software developer, and these problems they are experiencing are not due to faulty code. It is more then likely due to attacks on their Playonline server. I'm sure the attackers know if you want to DoS a multiserver game, get it at it's source. If anything, I feel sorry for SE for having to put up with constant BS from the attackers, and the users whining to them about it. I personally believe they should just do entire subnet bans until the problem stops, then deal with whomever can't connect as a result afterwards. Kill em all and let god sort em out.

I can't even log onto POL wots goin on ?!

i know it cant be because of the POL update cos i logged in since then

but this is really winding me up this is the second day in a row that i havent been able to log on!!!!

oh sorry. it is now 10:36 EST (am). Ive been up since 6:30 this morning on my PS2 trying to get on. I kep getting the stupid pol 0011 message. ive checked my connection a good 12 times now.....square better get their acts together..... ><'
im on spring break, but i have like 3 friends so this is really my life this week, and if it doest work, im gonna think about EQ or PSU (when it comes out)

this is the only time i can play, yet i cant get on cause the server is so crowded at this hour and these bs attacks they speak about. my opinion is they should spend your money on new servers(worlds) so as to relieve the overcrowding issuse.

im really contemplating cancelling and going back to Battlefield. at least those games are free to play.

All Right I look at Square/Enix web site for ffxi and check the server status of my world and it says it is up. This is what I hate about Square if there is log in issues for everyone in that world why not change it to Down???? They can at least give us that for $20.00 a mounth

becasue technically its not down. on Valefor at this time of day (when i could log on) there were over 4000 peeps generally. most from asia i imagine. well they are in there right now playing. probably with a ton of lag. thats why theyre not down.

Well, they keep saying that the servers can handle it etc. Im not getting problems with the actual game servers themselves, just cant f*cking log on at the same time the past 3 days. Its the logon servers or whatever thats causing the problems. the past 3 days... i've spent the best part of 2 hours each trying to log on AND get a response from customer service. which, still never came. I think SE need their *** kicking really, ino its hard but we're all paying for this so why cant they at least hurry up and get it sorted. buy a few more servers or something, or hurry up and get rid of these ******* hackers...

Yes, complain to customer service, that's going to fix everything. Look. Just accept the fact that they're getting hacked. If they could just "get rid of these @#%^ hackers", don't you think they would have done that by now?

Ingrates like you probably aren't doing much to help hurry them along, either. "***** ***** ***** pay my money every month whine whine whine zomg downtime you guys suck moan moan moan" go play WoW if you want to talk about server overcrowding. They don't NEED new servers. It's not the amount of people trying to play at once that's the problem, it's the DDoS attacks.

And if they could just find the people behind it, this wouldn't be a problem, would it? Don't you think someone who's going to hack a company that's based in three different countries would have to be at least a *little* bit more than just a script kiddy? Probably the biggest mistake is the repeated attacks... They'll figure out how to prevent this, and find the *******/s responsible, but in the meantime, how about doing something more productive than whining to their already probably overstressed customer service department? I mean, honestly, what do you expect them to do? "Oh, EvilKiara has a complaint, that changes EVERYTHING! Let's stop ******* around and get this fixed!" <sigh> It's people like you that make my job suck, as I do customer service for Citibank.

So, here's your homework. If it's apparently so easy to "get rid of these @#%^ hackers", then it's your job to find them and get rid of them.

So its not entirely their fault, but sorta is because like its been said maybe they should spend our on security rather than content for a little.

We should all really be pissed at the lamers who are trying to bring thr game down.

Thats US support.

EU support is availiable same time as PST but just at GMT ( so 5 hours ealier or whatever).

You can use either.

i already downloaded and installed the update last night . but this morning i can not login to POL. out of the entire time ive been a "meal ticket" for POL this is by far the worst. there are no explanations. there are no reimbursements, just a "we're sorry... but its not our fault i swear"

Seriously, haven't some of you people got anything better to do but play this game?

If the server is down - here's a thought...DO SOMETHING ELSE. Read a book, play a different video game, go grab something to eat, watch TV, or God forbid, go outside.

Anyway, rant aside, this is the worst the game has been in terms of login problems since I started playing in November. Now it has only been this bad since the DDos 3rd party attacks - so my theory is these attacks are occuring as fast as SE can fix them; even if I can log in to the game, most search functions are still screwed up, and there's very little I can do in game anyway. Can't synth without the AH, can't create parties without the search, etc etc.

Sadly, these attacks have co-incided with the April update, which means you have a version download on top of server problems. This update also had a few bugs in it. This is a friggin' natural thing, and be grateful they're actually fixed within a short space of time. I can understand how people can get annoyed at so much downtime, I am too, but for Christ's sake, don't form an angry mob over it. Imagine how everyone on WoW felt when their servers kept blowing up cos of demand?

Cut Square Enix some slack. Programming isn't a simple thing after all. If you want to blame anyone, blame the morons who keep trying to hack the servers.

Great point. Too many U.S. and Japanese companies out source IT jobs to third world countries because it is less expensive. But you get what you pay for. Hey SE ... are you listening to us????

If these attacks bring down FFXI, could these same people bring down our Air Defence system? Our Banking System? NY Stock Exchange? If not, why not?

What protections do the NY Stock Exchange have? Could not SE use these same protection techniques?

They probably could. But the FBI would have the problem resolved in a few hours. And the guilty would be patriot acted out of existance for a few years.
Much safer to practice on a game that isn't likely to cost you more than a fine even if you do get caught.
Or maybe FFXI is just the biggest honeypot of all times...

It's a shame even a game that has nothing to do with anything but a source of entertainment can't be safe from people who's only intent is to maliciously use their knowledge and computer skills.
Can you imagine the possibilities if they used it for something worthwhile and helpful? It's hard to keep faith in humanity but I always believe good will always defeat evil...eventually.

A lot of you guys are right about complaining. But, the issue is about where to complain. In my opinion, complaining on alla or even to the playonline complaints boards amounts to the exact same thing - nothing. If you guys are serious about doing something then complain to a lawyer. I know Attorney General Eliot Spitzer in NYC is good at getting people their money back.

i'm on the east coast, I got on at 7:30am and have not been able to get back on since. Yesterday it wasn't until almost 1pm. Then I get d/c at least 3 to 4 times. THe past month has been the worst login problems I've seen since I've been a member from last June 2004. It will be a year in June and I hope things will get better to keep me wanting to stay.

I think that's bull. That's one of those answers they give just to get rid of you and it worked. If it was specifically mentioned that the downtime is due to an update, then why would they say it was because of a DDoS attack? It's either maintenance or a DDoS attack.

On another note, I don't think its maintenance or a DDoS attack at all. I think Square bit off more than it could chew with this game. Maybe they servers just can't handle the requests.
