Destiny of Velious NDA Lifted

Your faithful ZAM staff has spent a fair amount of time entranched in the Destiny of Velious beta with Heroes of Test. We're here to report to you:  It's cold in Velious. Okay, you knew that.  Destiny of Velious offers a lot to all play styles, but since there's a week before launch we're going to stick to generalities.  As usual, all our information is from beta and may or may not change before the expansion launches.  All pictures were provided by SOE.

ZAM's Exclusive In-Depth Look at TERA's Priest

It's time once again for another exclusive TERA class reveal! En Masse Entertainment has been kind enough to send us some information on the priest, which fills the traditional healing role with some damage-dealing abilities tossed in for good measure. TERA is an action MMO, so it's best to think of the priest as a mobile medic who wears elaborate robes and carries a massive staff. Don't be surprised if you find yourself running around the battlefield to keep your allies alive.

Check out our in-depth details about the priest after the jump, as well as 10 gameplay tactics straight from En Masse Entertainment and a video showcasing the divine powers of the priest in action. We've also added a bunch of exclusive priest screenshots to our TERA image gallery, so browse through them for a closer look at the healing class.

ZAM's Hands-On Look at Maxis' Darkspore

I'll admit, when Spore came out in 2008, while I did spend my fair share of time twiddling around with that creature creator, the multi-genre game play of the game itself was not so engaging. I think the problem was that I, like most gamers, felt that Spore had so much potential with its incredible creature creator, but its ambitious design fell short when it came to building a game around such a revolutionary tool.

Two and a half years later, it seems Maxis has found a more focused direction, and so Spore is back in the concentrated form of Darkspore, a new action RPG that combines the best part of Spore with, well, the best parts of any good action RPG. After our interview with Executive Producer Mike Perry, Maxis also invited us to check out some of Darkspore's extensive campaign and arena-based PvP, so I decided to get in there to see if those Spore tools were being put to good use.

Darkspore Brings Customization to an Action RPG

What do you get when you combine Diablo and Spore? You get Darkspore, the upcoming action RPG from Maxis and Electronic Arts. If you've ever played Maxis' Spore, then you understand the allure of using the game's Creature Creator to bring your designs to life. The development team was inspired to bring a similar level of customization to the action RPG genre, which led to the creation of Darkspore's Hero Editor.

I recently had the opportunity to participate in a roundtable interview with Executive Producer Mike Perry to learn more about the customization options players will have at their disposal in Darkspore. Keep reading after the jump for all the details, and check back with ZAM next week for more in-depth Darkspore coverage!

ZAM's Exclusive In-Depth Look at TERA's Archer

It's a brand new year, and you all know what that means: a brand new TERA class reveal, courtesy of ZAM and our friends at En Masse Entertainment! Last time we checked out the sorcerer, a class that excels in the application of brute force and fire to reach her goals. It seemed fitting that this time we would be highlighting the archer, a class that some players might assume to be the physical damage-dealing version of the sorcerer but, upon closer inspection, is actually quite different.

Check out our in-depth details about the archer after the jump, as well as 10 gameplay tactics straight from En Masse Entertainment and a video showcasing the archer at work. And if that's not enough archer action for you, then head over to our TERA image gallery and look through our exclusive archer screenshots.

ZAM Explores the Guardian Faction in Rift Beta #2

What do you think of when you hear the word "invasion" in an MMORPG? The first image that comes to my mind is a bunch of NPCs screaming for help, while some foot soldier grunt enemies stand around waiting for you to slaughter them, pick up their loot and move on. The town still is invaded after (perhaps until you hand in your quest), the NPCs still scream, you yawn and go back to collecting rabbit feet or whatever else is in your quest log. Somehow, the terrified quest-giver still wants her rabbit feet while frenzied nasties are destroying her town; which remains intact. Sigh.

Imagine instead you're on your quest to find rabbit feet when you notice something odd. You've been down this path a hundred times, but you don't remember seeing these kinds of trees... and why are there skeletons popping up? What’s with the music changing all of a sudden? And... are those tentacles coming from the sky!? You make like a jack rabbit and run as fast you can back to town, only to find that those skeletons have taken it over and are creating more skeletons to find sacrifices to whatever tentacled beastie is coming out of the hole in the sky. And then they rush at you. Welcome to Rift.

ZAM's Hands-On Time with Dragon Age 2

About two weeks ago, BioWare shipped in about 20 journalists (myself included) from around the world to the BioWare Edmonton offices with two key goals in mind. The first was to intimidate all of us with Edmonton's -17° C (1° F) winter weather, which was subsequently described as being "unusually warm," and the second, which really needed no assistance from Mother Nature, was to demonstrate just how good Dragon Age 2 (DA2) is; both as a sequel to Dragon Age: Origins, and as an amazing RPG endeavor on its own. Today I'll be talking about all of my hands-on impressions with Dragon Age 2, and if you stick around throughout the week, I'll also have some great interviews with Executive Producer Mark Darrah and Lead Writer David Gaider.

ZAM's Exclusive In-Depth Look at TERA's Sorcerer

Ever since RPGs and, by extension, MMORPGs found their place in the gaming market, the classic mage archetype has always managed to make its way into the ranks of selectable classes. Well, TERA is no different in this regard. In our latest exclusive in-depth class preview, we're looking at TERA's powerful sorcerer!

Keep reading after the jump for all sorts of details on the sorcerer, including 10 tactics tips and a video of the class in action! Also, be sure to check out all of the brand new sorcerer screenshots in our image gallery.

Exclusive First Look at LOMA's Brotherhood System

In preparation for the launch of Legends of Martial Arts' open beta on Dec. 15, Perfect World Entertainment has given us an exclusive first look at the game's Brotherhood System! Think of a Brotherhood as a small that works together to earn rewards.

PvP fans will definitely want to check out the "Enemy List" function, which lets the Brotherhood keep track of the players that have killed its members. Just like in the movie "Kill Bill," your Brotherhood can go down the list and seek revenge on your enemies. Keep reading after the jump for all the details!

Touring with Turbine: Update 8 in DDO!

Whenever I think about some of the huge advances made by Dungeons & Dragons Online since its shift to free-to-play, my head just starts to spin. Just the fact that Turbine is still maintaining its aggressive promise to deliver content on a near-monthly basis is impressive, but if you remember that this is in an industry where half-year to one-year content gaps (I'm looking at you, Aion) are common, you'll realize just how good Turbine has become at keeping its customers happy. But enough of that: today is another Turbine tour day!
