Bioware Clarifies Talk of Low Population

Previously, stories were circulating that SWTOR - everyone's favorite galaxy far, far away, during a time slightly longer ago - was losing population and servers were lightening. Bioware is here to clarify, in a PC Gamer article, that no, this isn't the case.

Daniel Erickson, a Bioware developer, explains that the servers are drifting to 'light' server pop not because of dropped subscriptions, but dropped use in peak hours. Which is, incidentally, why the suggestion of server merges are being thought about. The article also talks about how they have some clever tricks planned, such as the recent Rakghoul plague, and how the community interacts with the developers.

Don't count The Old Republic out just yet. It's got a lot more life in it than that.

SWTOR Dev New Q+A Round

There's some community Q+A going about in the Old Republic website. Thanks to Bioware, we get answers for lot of long-hanging questions players have had, like Legacy unlocks and deleting characters, a hood toggle button, and distinctive signs/guild uniforms.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Revamps Site

Normally a new site wouldn't be terribly noteworthy, but there's a lot of great changes that just hit the Star Wars: The Old Republic Website. It looks nicer and browses better, but they've added Flashpoints to the Holonet, including info on all of them, and promise that skill trees and character profiles are coming next.

Rakghoul Plague Sweeps The Old Republic

KOTOR players might remember the Rakghoul plague. Well, now it's back again - and it's centered around Tatooine. Bioware was so happy to talk about the bigger features of the Legacy patch, this one came as a total surprise, slipping in quietly and letting players figure it out on their own. No word yet on what's to make of this strange advancement, but if you're in The Old Republic, you can go check it out on your own.

ZAM @ PAX East: Interviewing SWTOR's James Ohlen

ZAM is also having a small twitter contest to give away three Tauntaun Fawn mini-pet codes! Just tweet / follow @ZAMOfficial or @Pwyff with a Star Wars: The Old Republic themed haiku, and we'll select three lucky winners by 5pm EST! You may enter one haiku per twitter account for a total of two entries! Be sure to follow us, or we can't directly message you with your winning code!

Yesterday was an exciting day for Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR), as its long-awaited game update 1.2 launched, albeit without ranked warzones. Still, there's a lot of content - UI customization, a new warzone, a new operation, the entire legacy system - to be explored, so there don't appear to be too many complaints. At PAX East last week, we got the opportunity to sit down with SWTOR's Game Director, James Ohlen, to discuss some of the philosophical changes coming in 1.2, as well as some of the newly planned content for Update 1.3. Read on!

SWTOR Legacy Patch Comes Without Ranked Warzones

One of the anticipated things for the 1.2 Legacy patch was the Ranked Warzone Preseason, allowing players to begin matchmaking to prepare for Season 1's ranked slots. Unfortunately, it didn't make it in - BioWare said in a blog post yesterday that they had to delay it. There's no expected time when it will go live, but BioWare said they wanted to make sure it was 'polished and fun.' More as it develops!

SWTOR Tweaks Snipers and Gunslingers

A lot of nice improvements were made in a patch yesterday, tweaking a lot of blaster users - most notably, the sniper and the gunslinger. The former's Ambush, Series of Shots, and Takedown powers have had their damage increased by about 5%, and likewise with the gunslinger's Aimed Shot, Speed Shot, and Quickdraw. There's some other bug polishes, but this is a very nice set of tweaks.

The Old Republic Patch Day Is April 12th

At long last - after all of the hype of the new UI, tweaks to crafting, and new battlegrounds overhauls - Patch 1.2 is on the horizon. The TOR site confirms that April 11th late to early morning April 12th is when the servers will be going down, and then the patch will be live, with all the new goodies it comes with. If you weren't stoked already, you will be now.

TOR 1.2 Patch Contains Interface Customization

Swanky! Coming in the 1.2 patch for TOR is a huge change to the layout, which allows customization previously unavailable.

The Lead Interface Artist Michael Voigt explains and breakdowns all of the information, including how they opened up the option to the more conventional UI kit, which looks to be the standard set by World of Warcraft and its ilk. But if it's not to your liking you can completely rearrange all of your interface as you see fit, save it to a file, and even share this among character slots or between friends. And he even says there's more changes planned!

The 1.2 patch is getting even more exciting with all of these features on their way out the door.
