Star Trek Online has this amazing announcement regarding their first public game play video, being shown at the Official Star Trek convention this month.

We are thrilled to announce that legendary Star Trek actor and director Leonard Nimoy will be our special guest at the reveal of the first gameplay footage from Star Trek Online!

Mr. Nimoy will be appearing at our event at the Official Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas. The event will take place at 1:30 p.m. PDT on Sunday, August 10 in the Gene Roddenberry Theater at the Las Vegas Hilton. For those who cannot make the convention, we do not want to leave you out! We will broadcast the event LIVE via webcast. Please stay tuned for details on how to join the webcast. Cryptic Studios, known for City of Heroes and Champions Online have announced they are developing Star Trek Online.

The official site has a few screenshots and official forums, but the juicy content looks like it's coming on August 10th at the Official Star Trek convention in Las Vegas.

Now that we have Stargate, Star Wars, and Star Trek MMOs we just need Battlestar Galactica!

A countdown timer has appeared on the Cryptic Studios Website, currently reading 27+ days and counting. The timer is under the "games" heading, but there is no indication what is being counted down, nor is there any accompanying hype indicating they expect anyone to be excited over this. The image behind the timer seems to be science-fictiony: Star Trek Online perhaps? We shall see. Update: Shacknews says the art is actually ST:O concept art, so indications are pretty strong that they are preparing to beam us up.
