If you play RIFT, your whole world is about to change – well, maybe. Trion Worlds will be merging its low-population shards into several of its medium-sized ones. The hope is that these merged servers will have a more stable, healthy population. The mergers will occur on October 23rd for North American shards and October 24th for European shards. MMO Culture has translated a document issued by Shanda Games, the company which runs the RIFT China server. The document states that service to the China server will be terminated on November 15, 2013. Leading up to that date other functions will be slowly phased out. No specific reason is given for the decision.

RIFT 2.4: Beyond Infinity heralds the first chapter in a new war between the elemental planes. Players will find themselves defeating several bosses to pave the way to Planerbreaker Bastion within the Infinity Gate. The Realm of Twisted Dreams, a 5-man dungeon, is a place filled with chimeric versions of faces that may be familiar to the Ascended. You may also stumble into an alternate Telara called Infernal Dawn: Laethys, where a victorious Laethys reigns from her volcanic lair.
The update also includes PvP Prestige Rank 90 armor and weapons, cross-shard Instant Adventure, and new hairstyles and hair colors in the Barbershop. Planebreaker Bastion will be unlocked shortly after Update 2.4 goes live.
