Firefall Playable Demo Coming to PAX East

Red 5 Studios has announced that the first playable demo of Firefall will be available at PAX East.

"(We) had a great time at PAX Prime in Seattle where we announced Firefall for the first time. We liked it so much, we decided we wanted to do it again at PAX East. But this time, we wanted to take it up a couple notches."

There will be more than 20 machines set up for fans to kill friends and random convention goers in the first-ever Army vs Army competitive multiplayer in Firefall. The team will also be bringing another first in the reveal of a third battleframe. You’ll be able to play the game while switching between an Assault, a Medic, and an unknown battleframe that they have yet to mention.

Firefall Dev Chat Covers PvP, Combat and More

Members of the Firefall team just completed an IRC dev chat with fans, and it provides some interesting insight into the upcoming MMOFPS. The game is scheduled to launch in North America and Europe by the end of 2011, but you can already sign up for the beta simply by registering for the Firefall forums.

The chat covers a lot of ground, but many of the questions focused on combat and PvP. Executive Producer James Macauley had this to say about PvP:

"We're super pumped about Firefall PvP. We're making PvP very competitive in Firefall. We're specifically designing encounters to support cooperative team-based play for squads or armies to go head-to-head with others. A back bone to this experience will be the ranking system and army stats. Along with this, you'll be able to enroll in tournaments and leagues."

Macauley also mentions that while there will be an in-game marketplace, "you'll be able to play the entire game without spending a dime." For more details, check out the entire transcript. Also, be sure to watch the Firefall gameplay trailer that was just released.

Red 5 Studios Debuts New Firefall Gameplay Trailer

Hot on the heels of Global Agenda's announcement of a new MMOFPS titled "Tribes Universe," Red 5 Studios has decided to fight back with their amazing new gameplay trailer for Firefall, an MMOFPS set to launch in 2011. From the footage so far, the game looks pretty darn incredible, and the team hopes it will feature team-based action on a massive scale, alongside a persistent world and persistent character progression.

Included within the trailer were some amazing graphics, unique armor and weaponry, what appeared to be reailly large-scale PvP and a lot of epic music. There's not much else to say on this matter, but that doesn't mean there isn't much in the trailer, it's just that there's a lot to take in, so you should get to watching instead of reading this. The video is also included after the jump.

Firefall and the Summer Milestone Update

A while back I had the chance to start play testing a new MMOFPS by Red 5 Studios making waves in online gaming circles: Firefall. I found that the most appropriate description I read was “Borderlands Online”; the game combined shooting with crafting and leveling… but unfortunately it also played a bit slow and clunky. Then came the summer milestone update: a large patch that completely changed several aspects of the game such as discarding the leveling system, replacing the Medic battleframe with the new Biotech battleframe, and upping the combat speed of the game overall. So how did the changes come out? Read on for our take on it!
