Best Skinning Spot??Follow

#1 Dec 13 2010 at 5:10 PM Rating: Excellent
Soo i've found what i think to be the best spot for skinning soo far. Inside The Lost City instance, to either side of the entrance there are 5 non elite tigers, and 1 elite mob. Those not elite tigers will drop 2-3 Savage Leathers each! downing the two groups takes all of 5 mins and yields anywhere from 20-30 Savage leather :) Solo these pulls no prob as an 84 BM hunter, other classes im sure could handle if they CC the elite and burn the non elites and exit and come back in to skin as they are right by the entrance!

*Edit* Also, the elites give you 30k exp non-rested per kill, plus 3k per tiger add, soo killin em all also gets you 90k experience if you do this at lvl 84

I’ve not tried it myself, but apparently the swarms of Stone Bats in the NW corner of Deepholm are skinnable, low HP, and fast-spawning.

The Stone Bats are a great find. In roughly 15 mins I can have 10 heavy savage leather for a new plan or to use for crafting. Being a druid I am able to kill the bats, shift into flight form and skin. If another mob aggros, I just take off for a second then get back to work. Works very nice.

If I have a my farmer, level 80, get summoned into Deepholm and hearth at the Temple are the portals still usable so I can get to SW?

Just curious, I'll end up trying it tonight if no one knows.

I was doing pretty good in Uld in the southern part - there's a mountain covered with canines that are apparently part of a quest so you can rapidly score leather just by scavenging other people's kills, although you're as likely to get scraps as you are to get real leather.

A bit to the west were the river delta is there's an area with wolves which are apparently also quest mobs so more free leather, plus, there's tons of crocs in the water and along the shoreline.

So as of the last patch/hot fix the stone bats can not be skinned.

Drat! Went away for vacation for a week sitting at 504 LW skill hoping to power through the last little bit today with some stone bats farming. I guess now I will actually need to find another beast to slaughter.

Farming someone's kills is always touch and go, but two nights ago I was questing in Mt Hyjal and came across a quest chain involving dragonkins, and it turned out there were a lot of others doing that quest. I stayed there for a while, I don't know how long because every time I would clear all the kills and get ready to leave someone would come in and start all over. In the end, skinning mostly scraps, I wound up with 116 leather.

I'm at the office so I can't give the name of the location but it is more to the south on the map. The quest was Sethria's Brood, and the questgiver was Thisalee Crow at 23.8, 70.8.

Again, hit and miss - I went back last night and not a single person questing in there.

I always make sure they've left the corpse - never had any issues that way.

Most of the corpses I mentioned though are obviously abandoned though so really no issue.

In front of the dam where all the serpents are is another premo spot as it involves a quest to kill the snakes - cake for a druid in swim form but not sure if it'd be as fast for other classes.

Rate up!

Just tried this one and it's definitely good leather farming! Using my 85 feral and really wishing I'd done this back at 84 for the XP too - two is the normal leather drop with about every third tiger dropping three so I'd put the average per reset at 23-24 but still nothing to sneeze at.

You're also getting 31 rep per reset and while not exactly a way to get to exalted, is a nice bonus while your farming leather.

The trash is worth decent cash and have gotten one green so far along with some cloth so all said, definitely a good spot.

What about the crocs in Tol Barad? People kill loads of them for the dailies. Any skinner tried that yet?

Had some guy following me around skinning my kills there yesterday, so apparently someone is using that idea.

Was good for a while as I was the only one working it - could walk away with enough for half a stack of heavy before the initial rush died just from scavenging - but it's become a mixed bag now.

Horde is great for the first 5-10m as I seem to be the only Horde skinner and the Ally skinners are all flagged and waiting out the timer - that's usually good for a stack to stack and a half of leather. Things go down hill fast though as there's about half a dozen Ally scavengers (most of whom are frantically clicking the crocs to skin them even as you loot them) along with a couple of Ally griefers who grab those four armed chicks that do the raid of fire AOE and pull them out to were ever they see folks trying to fight or skin.

Ally is terrible - you've not only got the other scavengers and the handful of griefers the entire time, but the Allies doing the killing grief their own skinners by leaving loot on the corpses - I see the "check for loot" animation and then the Ally leaves but the corpse is unskinnable to everyone, resulting in the place soon being littered with wasted corpses and leather - stupid as everything on the corpses is worth a few bucks even as vendor trash.

Just farming the crocs on your own isn't half bad but still no where close to the tigers.

Right after the battle is over, and folks start those dailies ... tons of corpses.

I see tons rotting on my server,

Tigers in Lost City no longer drop 2-3 leathers per skin, they fixed it to just 1 leather per, as of this morning :(
