The MCU Omnibus ThreadFollow

With phase 2 of the MCU coming to a close next summer with Avengers 2, I figured I'd start a thread where we can all speculate and argue over where the MCU is heading..

It appears right now, its heading for Civil War.

So it would seem that after the events of Avengers 2, Cap & Tony are going to have a falling out over the superhuman registration act in Cap 3. I would guess that would mean Avengers 3 would actually be Civil War (and makes more sense as to why there is talk of Marvel trying to get Spidey in it) & Infinity Gauntlet wouldn't happen until 4.

I don't really have a problem with this, as it would keep the other phase 3 movies a little more grounded and a little less dependent on the other Marvel flicks. However, it would be AWESOME to see clone/robot Thor kill someone then have the real Thor come back and mop the floor with Tony, as he did in the post Civil War Thor comics.

I expect Infinite Gauntlet to happen right after Ultron is finished. After all they showed Thanos pretty early in the after credits of Avengers 1 and just expanded the universe with Guardians. Since they hinted at Gauntlet several times now I'm surprised they delayed it to happen after the whole Ultron thing.

Civil War was kind of a crappy storyline to begin with. Or rather, the ending really ruined a potentially decent storyline. Either way, I get annoyed when key story elements are removed from movies. I'm still annoyed at the lack of Pym in Avengers and, thus far, Age of Ultron. And the lack of a well established in the universe Spider-Man is just that. Peter is kind of a lynchpin in the whole story, in how people trust him and would follow him and such. Even then, are there any secret identity heroes in the MCU? Tony outed himself at the end of the first movie. Everyone knows Steve Rogers is Captain America, there's a whole museum wing dedicated to him. They didn't spend much time on the Bruce Banner / Hulk thing.

Theoretically a mess filled with all the things that give me headaches.

I think Marvel got the movie rights back for Daredevil. He's the only one I can think of (that they own lol) for whom the secret identity is really important. But even if they build him up real good with one or two movies, he's not Spiderman.

Read the article I linked. Civil War will either happen entirely in Cap 3 (which doesn't really make sense) or start there and continue into Avengers 3.

Daredevil will be a Netflix TV show next year.

Yeah, he's set for a Netflix series, as well as Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Drew and the Defenders. The first three has heavy cross-over synergy considering Luke and Fist were Heroes for Hire, and then Luke is married to Jessica. Not sure how Defenders will work considering the whole gimmick behind them was that they were a non-team team. Ridiculously revolving door, cycling in characters based purely on plot need. As an aside, I'm a little disappointed we're not getting a 1970s Blaxsploitation Buddy Cop movie/tv show with Cage and Fist's Heroes for Hire.

In other words, what Omega said.
Damn, I was slow on this one.

I'm betting they'll do Civil War, but it's not going to be based around identities. There are other ways they can make it happen. The big thing, I think, is that they need to make it happen with way fewer characters. The cast by the time we get Avengers 3 isn't going to be large enough that Civil War actually feels like a sizable conflict.

I think we'll get a poignant safety vs. liberty line grounded in an actual conflict between normal people, with the hero cast splitting on both sides.

Right now it looks like Cap 3 will be Cap vs Iron Man, so the smaller scale makes sense unless they continue it into Avengers 3.

Ah sorry. Did not read your opening post very carefully because I was watching Hellsing Ultimate at the same time (I think you recommended that in another thread and it's fun). Hence I missed the link and thought you were only speculating.

That's nice to know. Thanks.

Thanks also to the slightly slower lolgaxe. Smiley: wink

Its cool. I didn't recommend Hellsing though. I haven't watched much anime for quite some time & have only seen the occasional episode of the original Hellsing.

Well, the article more speculates that Captain America 3 will kick off the Civil War storyline more than it'd be relatively self contained. Which I guess if you take into account that Evans wants out of the Captain America role to take up directing it makes a little sense, as that would lead into Avengers ending the storyline with is there anyone that doesn't know how Civil War ends? Steve is shot in front of the Law & Order court house.

Schedule through 2019.

Edit: Is there enough interest for a DC Omnibus thread? DC Warner Brothers just released their movie schedule up to 2020. Because, I guess that's a thing to do. No real word if they'll be just DC movies or interconnected like the MCU, but safe money says they probably will in some way.

Just finished watching all Marvel Movieverse entries in order up to and including The Avengers. While I knew each of the movies beforehand, seeing them all chronologically back to back, including every Marvel One-Shot and every after credits scene really enhanced the experience. Can only recommend it.

There are a few minor things I noticed like the setup for The Leader in the Hulk movie leading (haha!) nowhere. But overall they did a great job.

And I'm very close to Agents of Shield, so maybe I can stop avoiding that thread here some time soon. Smiley: lol

Creepy music sets the mood nicely. It's no Ooga Chaka, but it works.

Hulkbuster fight is going to be the highlight for me.

My reaction.

I'm REALLY hoping Barton gets more screen time. He's such a great character. I'm just hoping it's not all Tony. I mean, I LOVE Tony, and he's super entertaining to watch, but we're already getting two new characters. I want more Hawkeye and Ruffalo!Hulk, since we get the least of them.

I'm also wondering if the theory lolgaxe posted forever ago of Jarvis becomes Ultron is the case or not. Definitely stuff in that trailer to support it, but I'd be bummed.

Lots of Scarlet Witch in there. Smiley: grin And some great Hulk moments. And Hawkeye sneaking through a snowy forest.

Good stuff!

They have a Quinjet, so I'm hoping they'll be tie-in to Agents of Shield (beyond name-dropping in the show/movie). Though there obviously doesn't have to be.

Double spoiler: Paul Bettany, who voices Jarvis, becomes Vision. Not sure if he's voicing Vision or actually putting on a costume and being an onscreen presence, but there you have it. I'm somehow less happy about this development.

Wasn't Vision created by and became Ultron, in that order?

Ultron creates Vision, and a couple of times manipulates/controls Vision, but I can't think/remember of a storyline where Vision became Ultron. I can remember a storyline where Tony Stark became Ultron, though. A female Ultron, at that. I remember because at the end of the storyline Tony is thanking everyone for saving him, and Wasp says "You had boobies." edit: I actually saved the panel. Spiffy.

All said and done, I doubt it'll be an issue in the actual movie. Just one of those source material geek complaints. It just irks me that we know Tony is creating Ultron instead of Pym, and now it seems like after creating Ultron, Tony is going to save the day by creating Vision. It's way too Tony-centric.

My guess would be Bettany appears with costume and make-up as Vision. In the Iron Man movies and Avengers 1 he's listed as 'Jarvis (voice)' whereas for Avengers 2 he's listed as 'Jarvis/Vision'. Without the (voice)-tag. But maybe I'm interpreting too much in this.

As for Jarvis - Ultron, maybe Tony tries to build a new enhanced version of Jarvis and that becomes Ultron while the old, friendly Jarvis we know later becomes Vision and helps fight his evil successor.

My guess is that Tony has Jarvis (or a slightly-intelligent program he's built using Jarvis' architecture) attempting to track down and hack Hydra pretty much 24/7, particularly after he finds out Hydra assassinated his parents. Jarvis successfully hacks the research base where they have the scepter and the twins, but then gets mutated by the mind-altering power of the scepter. If the scepter channels the intentions and emotions of those near/holding it, then it could channel the Hydra desire to destroy and dominate.

So, Jarvis mutates into Ultron. The Iron Man suits were designed around Jarvis' architecture, so Ultron can easily take control of one. And he destroys what suits he can before escaping. But he can't take the suits with him, because he immediately removes himself from Tony's network for self-defense.

Tony then either reboots Jarvis from a backup, or just uses him if Ultron didn't mutate from him. Using what he's learned about Ultron, he makes the choice to upgrade Jarvis to a permanent hardware solution - partly out of fear of Jarvis' code being hijacked again, since Ultron would obviously understand it and Tony's security - and Vision is born.

I'm thinking the Vision thing is primarily because they NEED to remove Tony's ability to network his suits together using Jarvis, because that's way too powerful. And the "I'm starting over" thing just doesn't cut it.

Also worth noting, they're introducing actual-butler-Jarvis in the Peggy Carter series, if I understand the rumor mill, so they probably need him renamed just for the sake of branding. Jarvis is awesome, but if they aren't planning to make more standalone Iron Man movies, then it's smarter to rebrand him as Vision and let Butler Jarvis take over the name.
