I wouldn't say shortly. I think they get their weapons about halfway into the story as of now, and the anime ends after only the first arc, which is 1/4 or less of the present story. I disagree with you, but will agree it's a huge change. The first arc is about defining guts and establishing his fate with Griffith. After that he begins his fall. Then begins his quest for vengeance. And while on his quest for vengeance he begins putting his life back together and there is the return of camaraderie. Now he wants nothing more do do with Griffith. It's a natural progression. I will say pirate arc has been the lowest point of the series, and I'll be more than happy to see it end. But overall I think BErserk is a top notch manga with a lot of depth.

Soul Eater has been publishing monthly. I don't believe Miura (BErserk) has been having health issues, but it takes him a really long time to draw his pages due to the detail. Togashi of Hunter x Hunter has chronic back problems which leads to the manga frequently being referred to as Hiatus x Hiatus.

I guess I assumed it was early on since it's been well over 6 years since I've read it, and even then I was behind on current releases and was reading archived scans. Must really be a slow released series.

I knew stupid wasn't the right word I was looking for but I was tired and didn't want to bother. I just remember reaching those chapters, and thinking... "Really?"... just the nature of the weapons themselves did not seem to fit the previously built world. Magic existed, supernatural, monsters, etc. But this set of weapons which had direct elemental magic control just seemed out of place. The magic that existed in the world prior to this didn't seem to focus on this type of elemental magic.

oh right, hunter x hunter was the one I was forgetting. Not really shocking, I've tried getting into that one a half dozen different times and just can't do it. I really liked yu yu hakusho, but for some reason, I just can't enjoy hunter x hunter

What, with all the demons & fairies its some elemental magic that turns you off? I do agree Berserk starts to falter a bit around the time that stuff goes down (for me, its when he put on the armor), but also agree with Allegory that overall its very good.
3 new flashback chapters recently, btw. Story continues in the fall as does the American release of the first movie (which I saw online & wasn't terrible).

FAIRY ************* TAIL: Lucy is going to be okay. Fairy Tail had to recombine their teams. Sabertooth is about to find out why Erza is the Titania, why Laxus is called a monster, why Gajeel was S-class with Phantom Lord, and why Natsu and Gray are considered two of the most powerful non s-class mages on the planet. They're strong, and they're pissed.
Erza: Reminding readers she's a true badass, like a boss.
Slight disappointment in that I was hoping for a (Gajeel vs (Natsu) vs Laxus) fight at some point.

Ok, so, up next on fairy tail: Blue Pegasus vs Quattro CerberusPuppy; I'd say Blue Pegasus is gonna win, unless it ends up being Ichiya+(the three we know seem fairly even, who the **** knows with the bunny guy) vs Bacchus+whoever (they're all kind of... eh), in which case it could really go either way, because Bacchus is an affirmed badass, and ichiya, who is supposedly as strong as Erza, has only ever been shown to be a complete weakass. Then we have Mermaid Heel vs Lamia Scale, which my guess would be Kagura+Milliana (because plot) vs Jura+Lyon, which, given how strong both Kagura and Jura are, would honestly be a fairly good match. After that, well, Fairy tail and Sabertooth have pretty much evenly matched teams, Two Dragon Slayers, One -make wizard, One Super powerful electricity user, and 1 absurdly strong "The Chick." I mean, yea, he could do the two on two dragon slayers, but I'm not entirely sure we want to see that fight just yet, and there's also the issue that, of the team, Natsu doesn't work well together with anyone, so it's really hard to say just what that 2 on 2 match will be. You can be damn sure it'll either end in a draw, or one side completely curb-stomping the other, causing the other to be out for pay back come the 5 on 5 fight.

yea, but the whole drama between natsu/gajeel and sting/assface is that they (sting/assface) think they are the best dragon slayers, because they're third generation (raised by a dragon like natsu/gajeel/wendy, but gifted Artifical dragon slayer lacrima like Laxus), and that first generation dragon slayers (no lacrima) are garbage.

There's a couple arcs after Guts' new pals get their weapons that're actually phenomenal, so you're missing out. Unfortunately, the in-between stuff feels akin to anime filler >.<

Yea, Though you know there's no way Byakuya's actually dead. No one dies in Bleach. The Fan Girls would riot. Also, I can't believe I forgot about Kenpachi with the whole "We steal bankai and it means you die" plot point came to the forefront.

I've been thinking about this. If Kenpachi is the manifested form of Yachiru's zanpankuto that makes her the most powerful Shinigami of all time, since he's been out 24/7 for how many centuries now without any external help such as Muramasa's ability.
