"I put on my robe and wizard hat." There, I beat the non-roleplayers to it, so they can save themselves the trouble.
Anyway, I know there are people on a number of servers who are, have been, or have wanted to get involved in roleplaying their characters in some form or another. Sometimes it's not easy to find a group for this purpose, and admittedly, FFXI isn't the easiest game to roleplay in to some degree. I know, I've tried many times.
But for those who may be interested, there are environments more conducive to this end. I happen to be an admin on a text-based FF-themed roleplaying game which has been in existence for just over nine years now, and though it's a mixed FF environment - meaning that it has elements from each of the games - it is more than welcome to FFXI characters and even has Jeuno as part of its environment.
What it has and doesn't have -
It lacks pretty graphics, and there is no coded combat.
No levels, level grinding, gilsellers/gilfarmers, or hecklers.
It's free to join, free to play.
It encourages roleplaying.
It has an open/flexible environment where people can use their imaginations.
You're not limited to the "cookie cutter" job combinations that are all but required in FFXI's native environment.
Don't get me wrong, I play XI and I love it dearly, but sometimes people just need a different outlet for some of their creativity. :)
