It seems like every time I log on now a days, there's always some stupid little update that SE decides to throw in. Wtf? Do those guys sleep on the job and when they wake up they say "Oh, damn! I forgot to add this so I better put it in now." And then the next time you log on, there's a 2-5 file update. Granted, I'm happy that it's not a friggin 20min update or something, but it's still irritating just the same.

Wonder if anybody ever gets fired over there....

I look at the updates to FFXI, then remember how bad Diabolo 2 ultimately got, and then I just smile and be thankful that the people at SE actually care enough to give us patches for stuff.

Diablo 2 was free internet play, and they still did a lot of patches. They also periodically cleaned out the dupes and such.

I'd say Blizzard care more, with the whole "free battle.net" thing and all. I played for a long time on and off. Maybe 2 or 3 years? At 13$ a month which FFXI charges, 14$ with my mule (diablo having many more characters I am sure) thats like almost $500 dollars they didn't charge me that SE did.

The other interesting note being that Diablo 2 is also available offline, and TC I/P.

Don't take this as SE bashing; I just thought Blizzard was never given enough credit for Battle.net

Unless you have worked in software development (and no, making a simple web page doesn't count as having developed software), you most likely have no idea what is required to update a system of this magnitude or what goes into a system like this.

Uhh... it's an MMO. Things change, things get updated. If you want an example of bad management, take a look at Phantasy Star Online.

It's been said that given enough time, an infinite amount of monkeys on an infinite number of typewriters will eventually present the complete works of Shakespeare. Personally, I think they coded PSO.

Be thankful your game still gets updates, and has a staff that cares... sorta... and actually, y'know, works weekends.

Frequent updates mean that SE still actively supports FFXI, and shows they certainly haven't written the game off as "dying" as some people like to whine about these days.

If you actually read the update notes, you'll see that the recent updates addressed a major RMT exploit in Selbina, POL freezes when accessing POL email, issues with people getting auto-logged off, and so on. All of which seems pretty important to address asap. So SE is not just sitting around picking their noses thinking "boy, we have nothing to do, let's put out a random update to tick people off."
