For starters, this has nothing to do with anything... I'm just bored and waiting on the quiz for my EMT class to pop up online.

So I logged on last night. Was the first time I have been on for longer then five minutes in close to a month, but things really didn't go as planned.

I started to lfg, my LS being empty as always, so I went looking for things to pass the time. Walked around in Whitegate, responded to random shouts, sent a few random shouts myself, oogled the AH... nothing out of the norm.

Something just seemed off. In the mildly short amount of time that I had been on, only /tells I got were from 3 random people saying "I thought you quit." At which point I had to explain for the bazillionth time that my account expires at the end of the month. Of course that leads to the all mighty "Can I have your stuff?" question. Would love to give stuff away, if only I had something to give, now stop asking!

Finally after 3 hours of looking, got a /tell in Japanese asking if I wanted to party. After a few deaths we ended up at camp, I started to pull away. I was only there for a couple of hours, but it felt like an eternity. It just dragged on and on, not that it was a bad party, but it wasn't the greatest either (~5k an hour).

It was just as I was thinking of an excuse to leave did it really dawn on me... I really was bored with the game. I don't know why, but I was just bored with everything I had done. Leveling was the mundane, missions were meaningless, quests were the bland, helping someone seemed to be nothing more then a facade.

I have been playing since the PS2 release... I have seen and done it all maybe? What part of this game lost its fun since my senior year in high school? Did my interests truly change that much as I grew from a child to a young man? I have made many friends in game, and I even met my now real life girlfriend there.

But now I no longer have any real urge to do things in game. I remember of only thinking about FF, how excited I was doing my AF missions, doing genkai. Those moments of how proud I felt like when I got my Assault Jerkin, when I hit level 70 on DRG and equipped my barone gear, how good it felt when I bought my scorpion harness. How these thoughts would cloud over into my real life, sitting in class thinking about going home and leveling, taking a quiz and wondering how dynamis was going to go... but alas, it seems it is no more.

Now the only things I can think about are finishing my EMT certification, starting fire school next year, being so excited about doing something I have wanted to do since I was five years old.

/Sigh... growing up sucks, but for some reason I am excited about it.

Ive been going through the same things you are in regards to the game. It just isnt the same any more as when I first started (only back in April mind you). I feel Ive pretty much seen everything the game has to offer even though I havent even been to Dynamis or started a CoP Mission.

You might remember me from a couple of months back when we partied in Cape Teriggan. I was pld and you were rng. At the end of the Party I dinged 60 and put on my AF Body - that was the last time I ever exp'd with my pld. I guess I kind of lost interest after 50 levels of straight up tanking or maybe it was the time wasted lfp. Either way pld was my first love and although Ive tried other jobs since, nothing compares.

Well anyway, a while ago I cancelled my content ID's and havent looked back since. You might want to do the same.

Completed ALL Dynamis zones
Defeated Dynamis Lord
Nid/Faf
Aspid/Adaman
Behemoth/KB
Vrtra
Tiamat
Jorgy
Cerberus
Bahamut V2
Finished COP(Beyond just getting Sea)

All the BCNMs, ENMs and ISMs
leveled all jobs
Crafted to Veteran status
Triggers/Gods/Kirin
Jailers
Absolute Virtue
Finished the current Toau missions
Raised your own Chocobo
Merited any of your jobs

There are a million things I have not listed I am sure.

Just mentioning a few things to remind you that theres a lot more to doing and seeing it all than you might think and believe.

I was going to replay with something similar to Krack's post. There's millions of things in FFXI that I'd like to accomplish before I decide to take my last logout.

I think of these everytime I get bored with the game. I want to take a few swings at a big-*** dragon and have one of those cool titles. I want to get my hands on some sweet items for Drg: Homam, Brutal Earring, Supannomimi for War, Ethereal earring for Drg, Crimson, Hecatomb, Adaman for War... all this and more I'd like to obtain.

Once I get these things, I would enjoy getting Rank 10 in the other 2 nations. After that, I'd like to get Aht Urghan missions tied up. Somewhere between what has been stated above, I'd need to unlock sea. I'd like to get all the avatars so I could lvl Smn through the dunes and have many ppl marvel at a galka having all the avatars at such a low lvl. ^^; Just be a show-off lol.

But, this is what I think about when I get down about FFXI. Maybe you don't wanna experience those things. And if that's the case, you'd probably have more fun IRL anyway. Tons of stuff to do out there as well. Get wasted, hit on chicks, wash, rinse, repeat.. Build a car from scratch, gamble at casinos (which can be done in FFXI oddly enough >.>).. All a few examples.

Anyway, GL with w/e you do. ^^

Try ballista, you might enjoy it.

I'm starting to feel the same way, after nearly 3 years of daily playing. I used to be able to pull off 14 hours or more no sweat, but now I find myself logging off within the hour. A lot of things have changed, though. After my computer crashed and I was out of the game for two weeks, I lost the drive for a lot of things. Including Ballista.

I think the time has just come for you. If you're finding yourself playing just because you want to keep your friends, like I do, use MSN or AIM. You won't be losing much if they don't follow you, will you? If you're not enjoying your stay, maybe its time to let go.

However, try doing some things with your friends. I'm set with a friend of mine, and hes probably the only reason I can stand a party for more than an hour. I honestly wouldn't have gotten to 70 if it wasn't for him, and I might be able to say the same for him.

I also have to say, I'm starting to feel what you're thinking about Weakness. Instead of thinking about tanking Byakko and getting his Haidate for my Ninja, or leveling up Warrior just for the sound of Warcry and Rampage (yeah, I'm weird like that), I'm thinking about doing schoolwork, and doing things that will affect my future. I often lay in bed for half an hour thinking about what to do the next day instead of play. I think I'm going to force myself into getting a job over the summer (if they hire people at 14) just to earn back some of the discipline FFXI took from me.

Weakness, if you need any help with anything, send Aidran a /tell. I'll see if we can do anything, if you're still looking for an urge to stay, or just looking for someone to chat with.

i know how ya feel weakness. sometimes i feel like i'm forcing myself to log on. i've tried other MMOs and i think i finally found one that can hold my attention. city of villains. the joy i got out of getting new gear for drg on ffxi, i can get by just throwing a fireball at some random mob in the game....so simple, requires no time at all to accomplish...yet its just fun. there is just so much to do on CoV that 1 char literally can't do it all. exping is actually fun since you gain most of your exp while doing quests/missions. there are 5 job classes to pick from and each has 8(i think) main power sets and 8 secondary power sets to pick from. the great thing is, that regardless of which main/secondary power sets you pick, people still want you for pt. any combo works, and the game is a LOT more balanced than ffxi. the way i built my character lets me solo or pt at my leisure. i've soloed things that i've seen groups wipe to.

maybe you should try another MMO for a while, any MMO and just get your mind on something else for a while so that coming back to ffxi seems like less of a chore and more of "lets see what i can do today" thing. hell since i've stopped playing ffxi as my only MMO i find something on ffxi almost every time i log on. even if it is just an exp pt. but for a drg to be able to get a pt invites from random people on a regular basis? but yeah. you just need to find another game that can hold your attention like ffxi used to. you can try WoW, EQ(or EQ2), guild wars, city of heroes, city of villains, hell there are TONS of other MMOs out there.

Sometimes, when I get tired of FFXI, and I want something different I go and play some of the free online games, Maple Story, Gunbound, Raikon, Gunz, and recently Trickster.

It must be friday... The biggest reason I play this game is to network with people I have made friends with. When I Log in and there is no one I know that is on and there are no noobs shouting for help to kill a dragon for rank3 or someone needs my help with AF hands so I can go to Eldieme Necropolis and die there for the millinth time, I just log off. If your LS is empty (as usual) get a new frickin LS.

I finally got my DRK to lvl 70 last night. What I liked about it was my 17 year old son (Strifer) was in my party and so was my Sister (Cheeky). If I had accomplished this with a bunch of strangers, it would not have been as fun. Take that with a grain of salt and I'll look for your next post on friday the 29th.

Heh... that was pretty cool Alauce.

And as to what Bal said, Phantasy Star Universe should be coming out real soon. PSO way back when on dreamcast was my first ever MMO so I am pretty excited about PSU. The greatness about that game was it didn't matter what jobs you had, or how many people you had and you could go through and beat it. Be it four hunters, four rangers, four forces, or any mixture of the three, nobody cared.

FF is just a chore some times because you have to have specific jobs in some slots for the most part. Sucks when you have 4 other people ready to go and you are waiting for a tank/refresher.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that this will be the last weekend for me being on, I start ride outs and in-service for my class next weekend. My girlfriend has my character and I told her she can do whatever with it. =P So if you see me on, it probably isn't me.

=P Nah, I already told her she gets all my stuff (all those lovely rare/ex items she can't do anything with). Anyway I shouldn't be back in 6 months, o.O; Fire School should be starting by then, which means work + hardcore school + working out = no time =D.

if you do try out city of villains (which is much easier to just pick up, play for an hour, and still get something done) make a character on freedom server and look me up
