Myths and Legends of VanadielFollow

So here's something I was talking with Phyree about the other night. She suggested putting it on here on Alla so others can contribute. I'm hoping that it will turn out to be a fun thread instead of the complaints, occasional event advertising, and world pass requesting.

What I'd like to do is create a thread regarding unofficial myths about stuff in Vanadiel. I'll be the first to "create" one as such, so everyone gets an idea what I mean. Note that I'm not a skilled story weaver, and I've got a tendancy to ramble and be slightly odd. Amusing, but odd. Just ask Shykin, Nylatay, Grey, Lorddvs, or anyone else in my linkshell (Funeral).

So, here goes my myth of Vanadiel........

How Moogles Came About:
Or why so few Tarutaru are Alchemists nowadays.

Not long before the Crystal War, a certain young Tarutaru was traveling the world. Not being content with living at home studying magic and relaxing with friends, he sought new sights, new sounds, new experiances, and most particularly, new styles of food. While this young Taru enjoyed his mother's cooking and the spicey dishes his Mithran neighbors cooked, he grew bored. So he packed up his bags and bid farewell to everyone he knew.

"But Machna! You'll get hurt out there!" "Those Yaguado will easily prey on a young lone Tarutaru wandering about." "What if you get sick? Who will take care of you?" "How will you rrreach stuff placed everr so high?"

Such questions were asked of Machna-Rachna as he was bidding adieu. All he could reply was that he had to see what lay beyond the fields of Sarutabaruta. The Mithra who lived 2 houses down recognized the itch under the little one's skin and told everyone that what he was doing was the right thing. She had seen it in the eyes of Enid Ironheart. There was no way to stop Machna, for what he had was a severe case of wanderlust.

So Machna was told to search out monuments placed in various parts of the world by Enid Ironheart and her father Gwinheim. They would help him find his way and tell him about the local area.

Well, Machna's feet took him far and took him wide along the world made by Altheina. He saw the crowded streets of Jeuno, the sandy oasis known as Rabao, the skilled (and ever-so-tall) woodworkers in Northern Sandoria, the powerhouses called Galka who took him (on their shoulder, no less) to Bastok, where Machna met Cid himself.

While there, Machna saw some of Cid's accomplishments and works-in-progress. Looking to bring these amazing items back to Windurst, he asked Cid to show him how he did it. Cid smiled and said "One part Alchemy, one part inspiration, and five parts hard work." "Alchemy? What's that, Cid?" Hearing that, Cid marked down an X on Machna's map of Bastok Mines.

"Go there. Tell the guildmaster I sent you. He will teach you Alchemy, more then I can, and better then I could ever hope to."

Machna found his trusty new boots (the ones from home had long worn out), and headed to the Bastok Mines area. Down a long alley and past several Galka children playing in the street, he found himself at the Alchemist Guild. With Cid's referance, he was gladly accepted into training. Machna studied had and long, easily mastering the ins and outs of the craft. Several months had past without him realizing it, or even feeling the tickle in his feet which lead him to Bastok. The Guildmaster was impressed at this Taru, not only for his dedication to becoming the best, but also at his cooking, story-telling and inner warmth. Hence, he was said to hear Machna say: "Thank you for teaching me. I'm going to Windurst and show them the amazing things you showed me."

Machna-Rachna was suprised to see a gift on his bed. It was a simple little container with a letter from the guildmaster. The note read:

Machna,

My dear friend. Countless times have you made me smile, laugh, and turned bad days into good. You have also made me envious of how quick you learned. Between you and Cid, I could imagine the most amazing wonders brought to our world. Enclosed in the vial is something I had come across several years ago. I have never found a use for it, since I lack the talent for magic. Having heard that Taru have a high propensity for magic, maybe you could use it. I wish you the best and brightest future and may Althenia forever smile on you.

Putting it carefully away in his bag, Machna wiped away a tear, sniffled, and went to the chocobo stables. And so, off he went to his place of birth. After several long days of travel, he found himself looking over a hill at Windurst. Seeing how slowly it had been rebuilt, Machna thought to himself "Maybe if we were as tough as the Galka, or as strong as Elvaan, or ingenious as Cid....."

Machna settled in Windurst Walls, creating various mixtures to help with the rebuilding of Windurst. He started showing others how to do what he did, so more could be made in the same amount of time. Machna also dedicated some time each week to experimenting with the gift from Abd-al-Raziq, seeing if it could make a Tarutaru taller or stronger. (Maybe then, the Mithras would look at him as more then a friend with interesting stories.)

Well, lo and behold, one day inspiration stuck. Rather, it shook when a student at the local spell-caster school messed up a spell. Nothing was damaged, Machna saw, but his sleep was interrupted. *BAM* Another mis-fire it seems.

"EUREKA!" he cried. Maybe adding in a little bit of magic might help with the potion. Day and night he worked on the formula. After a month, Machna worked out a testable potion. He called together his Tarutaru family and friends and told them what he had made. "As big as Galka ("As what?") and as strong as an Elvaan." ("eww, even pointier ears”)

Aside from the one naysayer, Machna had a small group of Taru willing to give it a go. They all took their cups filled with the potion and waited for it to kick in……….

Nothing happened it seemed. Machna was bitterly disappointed. He had worked long and hard on it, but nothing happened. “Tomorrow, I’ll work on the formula, see what’s missing and what needs changing.” With that, Machna said bid goodnight to his guests and called it a night.

The next morning, Machna woke up, feeling odd, woozy, and with a severe itchiness on his back. He went over to the mirror in his bathroom and saw he was pale. Machna realized his hair was shabby and his nose not quite so brown. Thinking himself to be getting sick, Machna stayed in bed just to rest and recup. Falling back asleep, Machna found himself having vividly odd dreams. After a few hours, he found himself awake and no longer itchy.

Machna went to the bathroom again to see if he was still pale. What he saw in reflected in the mirror shocked him. The image he saw was himself, only his skin had turned pale, his hair had fallen off, his ears had shrunk, and his small brown nose was now red. Sprouting from his back was a pair of purple wings, and from Machna’s now smooth head was a golden ball.



And this is the story behind the proverb told to all young Tarutaru “Stay away from Alchemy, son, or you’ll end up like Machna-Rachna.”

In the case of Moogles, I always thought they were using the world migrating theme found in past square games like Secret of Mana and that they had no connections to the races of Vanadiel

Great. so Moogles are in fact, a technologically advanced space-faring race which enters planets pre-civilization in order to study them?

I'm sure they use a form of magic to move from world to world. Also in FFVI when you go get Mog in the World of Room he hints at the other moogles leaving the world.

Hahahah. Whatever happened to Taikobo? And comeon people, write me some stories. Tell me I'm not the only one who thinks up the bizarre **** like what I posted above.

It is very nice. I hope to be getting more stories posted sometime soon! Thanks for throwing your lot in as well! It is refreshing to have other authors other than Nights and myself posting content. ^_^b

Hmm. I'd have to nominate Infamouskiller as being a legend here lol Who hasn't heard that name before?

Also, I'd love to know what happened to Taikobo. San D'Oria's item-selling mules just aren't the same.

Yea, for real. For those that don't know, Taikobo was a mule in san d'oria. He always muled in that same exact place, same exact kneeling pose with the same gear on (pumpkin head was what made it noticeable). He would seemingly ***** shihei materials on his main or other mules (no one knew which they were) and make tons of shihei (and other stuff,shihei is what he was most know for i believe) and sell it all on his mule in that one place. He had so many customers though he never moved or spoke or anything. People knew where to find him, he even waved to people a couple times or /c their bazaars when he happened to be there (tho these fabled accounts are unfounded and thus in my eyes never happened [HE NEVER MOVED MUAHAHAHHA]). He always sold below cost which leads us to believe he was able to HQ them, no matter what you were getting a deal. Again, people knew where to find him, he was on 24/7 (must have had his mules or main come bring him supplies), and he always had good prices. Combined with the fact that he had a good bazaaring strategy (do something so people remember you [i.e. he never moved, same gear, same place, good price was his overall theme]) and you have one of Bismarcks oldest legends, around long before any NA's and stayed quite a long time (I'd say he finally disappeared about 1-1.5 years into NA PS2 release). He reappered at one point for about a week or so then disappeared again. And that, was the last anyone ever saw of Bismarcks greates Bazaar mule.

Heh, well in the name of mules and their wares, how about Drowsorez, the Selbinian chef? (Sadly, he's moved over to WoW and is starting college, so I doubt he's ever coming back. ;_;) I'll admit to him being in my original LS, so that's also partially why I'm nominating him.

And thanks Phyree for nominitating this thread for the fan fic. Wasn't something I expected. Kudos also to Wintaru for being able to do it.
